Ball of Sunshine

Our crazy windy weather continued today, so I took the chance of wearing a long-sleeved wool dress.
I am a big ball of sunshine!

  • Dress - Lida Baday, vintage 90s, vintage fair; purchased here for $22.95
  • Shoes - Super Fine Cardinal, Fluevog; last seen here with a spectacular kimono in May

I completely loved wearing this dress all day. I did some research last night on Lida Baday, and from seeing sewing patterns from the early 90s (which were based on her designs), I think this is a pretty early piece by her.

Her first collection was in 1987, and this dress does have that "shoulder-pad" vibe that late 80s dresses had, although there is no trace of shoulder pad removal in this one.

So I think it is from the early 90s, when we were just starting to veer away from bigass shoulders, but still had that sexy shape.
I like that the top half of the dress is quite loose (very comfy to wear), but the hips are a snug fit. The dress has zero stretch (from the Days Before Lycra), but wool has a bit of natural stretch.

Pockets for the win! This dress just screams quality.
This is summer-weight wool (very finely woven), and I'm very glad it's lined, as it's slightly see-through (you can see the pockets in the second picture).

The stuff:
I went with gold shoes and accessories to go with the sunny flow of it. I adore these shoes - so freakin' comfortable!

Simple bling:
I matched the earrings to the zipper pull (which I suspect is an old 80s earring).

  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Earrings - vintage fair

    1. Thank you so much, Ann! I do love a yellow dress (I have another one, very different style). It will look good with boots in fall/winter as well - I will likely keep it out all year round.

    1. No, that's part of its history. I don't have anything else that would look as good as this old earring, either.

      Thank you so much, Greetje!

  12. Shiela, that yellow dress is just gorgeous!
I would never have guessed it's from the 90s, from the first photo I was sure it was a 60s dress.

  13. Lovely dress, the color is Stunning! and I like particularly the original shape, this kind of 'kimono like' sleeves which were so fashionable back in the last 80's-90's.

  15. Bright and stunning. This is such a cool dress and the zipper up front you do not see much these days. Just yesterday I was thinking about when the zipper at front trend would come back... I need it to!
