Snakes, Ruffles and Houndstooth

One of our clients today was shocked that I was in head-to-toe black and white - he had never not seen me in bright colours.
Yes, I love black and white palettes, as well as colours. Nothing wrong with a little black here and there!

  • Sweater - Club Monaco, thrifted; first worn here in March with McQueen
  • Skirt - Tribal, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
  • Shoes - Sorel; last worn here in September with a giant bright skirt (must wear that again soon!)
  • Coat (below) - Joseph Ribkoff, thrifted; first worn here earlier in May with heavy metal

One of my colleagues noticed that my wavy snake earrings perfectly matched the white trim on my shoulder ruffles.
Nicely spotted! Of course, I did that on purpose!

Nothing I wear is by accident.
 A mini-skirt over 50? Heck, yes! I'm a rebel.

Bare legs too! Bwah!
I liked this houndstooth skirt - it was fine to wear. No issues. Still considering whether I need two houndstooth skirts. Maybe this one in winter (because it's shorter) and the other in summer. Decisions!

Outerwear - it was way too hot during the day to be wearing a sweater and a coat, but I was only outside in the morning and briefly in the evening.
The coat has many fans. It is a rather spectacular piece.

The stuff:
These are totally comfy shoes - I walked to work in them, but bused home.

Bold bling:
Two new-to-me pieces of jewelry today!

  • Chain bracelet - thrifted; purchased here for $6.00 - first wearing
  • Snake earrings - Red Sky; purchased here for $32.00 - first wearing

  1. I can't get over how spectacular that coat is in color, cut, fabric, length ... It just elevates every outfit you pair it with. Just perfect! Earrings were a great touch with the white trim.

  3. PS: Just an idea regarding the two houndstooth skirts - this one looks a bit more edgy and rock-chick with the zipper and being more short, while the other appears a bit longer and more classic in shape, I would probably keep this one for play and the other for work. They are both fabulous. Lise

    1. Heh, I will probably wear both for work. :) But you're right, they are very different styles, even though they are the same fabric.

  4. Snake earrings? I need some!
That's a fab outfit, love the coat with it and the bare legs. Bare legs rock.
I've been trying on all the 1960s suede mini skirts I found at the weekend and they all fit perfectly - arghhh! I haven't worn a mini in ages but I'm seriously tempted to keep one. xxx

    1. Aren't they fab? and light as a feather too!

Bare legs do rock, even if they're covered in varicose veins, bruises and scars like mine are. :) Go for it!!

  5. This is a spectacular outfit (not only your coat is spectacular!), and you totally rock in black&white (at least) so much than you do in colors!!
Obviously, I love how your earrings match the trim!, such a brilliant accessorizing!. And I also love your fab boots!!

  6. Meghan said your outfit is outstanding. I love your look. Age is only a number after 21. I am always going to be a girl even when I turn 100years old. Shorter skirts look great. Girls wear them in their sixties decade and their seventies decade as long as they are happy. Don't let a corporation decide you that you can't be a girl. Any age can renew our youth like the eagles. Pamper your skin, avoid sun or use sunscreen, treat yourself like gold because your are your greatest treasure. Grapes, soyoil salad dressings on salad, water are all good for skin. The best is yet to be. Thank you for inspiring me today.

    1. Thank you, Meghan, I agree - who cares what age we are and what we wear!? I always avoid the sun. Good advice, and happy to inspire.

  7. Of course nothing you do is "by accident" -- you're a master! I love shoulder-ruffles and wish I could wear them in public.

  8. I'm not sure I'm ready to bare my legs yet. They need some more fake tan! Anyway, I love your edgy houndstooth mini, and I think those two skirts are different enough to keep them both. The snake earrings and your jumper's shoulder ruffles are just made for each other. What a great touch. And then there's the coat! What can I say? Spectacular doesn't even cover it! xxx

  9. I am psyched because, for reasons I don’t know my tablet is now letting me post comments again. Yea! Just curious - why the longer skirt in summer and the shorter one in winter? (I am totally thinking warmth and cooling, hence the length that would facilitate each.) In any case, another rockin’ outfit! Black and white on bare legs with “commentary” boots and jewelry, just right. :)

    1. I'm happy to see you back, Laurie! Shorter in winter, because I'd wear tights with it to make up for the shortness. Longer in summer because I'm usually bare-legged.

      Thank you!

    2. Ah, got it - less need of sunscreen. And tights always add to warmth. Thanks!

    3. It's more tights for coverage with the short skirt!

  10. I love that coat with this! :) Also you look fab in that skirt, I like how you kept it simple with black and white but still fun with the ruffles on the top and the snake earrings!
