Flower Gems, Sneaky Silk and a Pirate Sash

I've had this top and bottom paired since I bought them (both on the same day), but have been waiting for a warm(er) day to wear them.
I seem to be lacking a cardigan or jacket to wear with this, so I just went without. What a rebel!

  • Tee - Ted Baker, consignment; purchased here for $42.00
  • Skirt - Linda Lundstrom, consignment; purchased here (new with tags) for $7.99
  • Shoes - Miista; last seen here in February with my stained glass dress
  • Leather jacket (below) - Burberry, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in March

The top is just a thin t-shirt, but it's thick with this luscious floral pattern. It's almost gem-like, isn't it?
The tee was fine to wear - I have it tucked in here - although I was a little bit chilly in our air-conditioned office.

We had a major server outage (IT talk!) for over 2 hours today, so I did all kinds of non-computer-related things in the office, like putting up posters and moving the overstock of mugs from one floor to another. Whenever I hit a "hot spot" on one of our 360-degree-windowed floors, it was lovely - so warm! My reception area is always chilly.
After I tucked the tee into the skirt, I felt it was still needing a little something extra, so I sashed it up with this silk velvet scarf. I felt like a pirate! Yar! Check out my sash, you scallywags!

The skirt has pockets (YES), and you may be wondering why on earth I bought a beige skirt.
I do rant about how much I dislike beige. It's a horrid colour. Oatmeal is for eating, not wearing!

But as you can see here...looking down at myself after taking the stair pic...
It is actually an iridescent woven slubbed silk, and it glows with this wonderful rich lavender when I move. You can see a touch of that in the stair picture, but it's really more noticeable in person. What a sneaky silk!

Outerwear - I did have the perfect jacket for this outfit after all.
But this is very loud leather - it has a sticky, Saran Wrap-like quality to the finish and clings to itself. I didn't want to be that noisy today!

So I just wore it for walking to and from work.
I liked all the shininess in this outfit, especially when I was out in the sun.

The stuff:
More iridescence in the shoes! My "trout" shoes are both green and purple. Very comfy! I love a nice menswear-inspired shoe, don't you?

Stone bling:
The gemlike look of the flowers in the top inspired me to wear this incredible gem bracelet. It has tiger eye, turquoise, pearls, amethysts, moonstone, and quartz (and more stones I can't identify) and is set in silver. L bought it for me many years ago, on Salt Spring Island.

  • Silk scarf - thrifted
  • Bracelet - gift from L
  • Earrings - c. 1995?
  • Amethyst/gold ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Silver/amethyst ring - gift from Mom and Dad, c. 1984

  1. It’s a great look I love the tee and the slub silk works well.
IT problems drive me batty! I have very little patience for outages and get all worked up when they occur!
Good that you were able to distract yourself with some other things!

  2. I love all the shininess in this outfit!
Oatmeal is for eating, ha! I didn't think that skirt was beige, it looks more like a wonderfully shimmery gold to me. xxx

    1. Thanks, Vix! The skirt reads as gold to me too, but I thought it looked a little beige in the photos.

  3. Oatmeal is for eating, I am so going to steal that from you! Naturally, I never thought you would just wear plain beige, but I'm still glad you showed us the close-up of this gorgeous slubbed silk fabric! It looks fab with the top and sash, and yes, with the loud leather jacket too! Oh, how I hate IT problems, I did have my fair share of them when I returned to work on Monday. Lost so much time, and I had so much catching up to do! Luckily, today's a public holiday, so that I can recuperate ;-) xxx

    1. Go for it, Ann! Nah, beige is so bland, I can't stand it. Thank you! Eh, IT stuff happens, you just have to ride it out. Nice, you have a holiday!

  5. After squinting at the gemstone bracelet. I am guessing that the red stones are red coral.

  6. I've detected iridescence in some of your outfits and admired both its use and your unusual ability to spell the word correctly. You're a double threat!

    1. I'm guilty of using the spell-check on this one, Ally! Iridescence has always challenged me!

  7. I saw the sheen on the skirt in the photos and thought it was a green/gold. I would have been shocked if you were wearing a beige skirt!

  10. See you sparkle and shine in this great outfit Sheila. I've got a noisy jacket like that too which makes it very annoying to wear, especially indoors. Good idea adding that scarf as a belt - just the finishing touch you needed x
