Sick Gal Two-Fer: Pink Suede, and Rags for Work

Hey, miss me? I got sick, am I've been down with the flu. I'm still sick, but draggin' my sorry self around nonetheless.

And since I have a nice comfy couch beckoning to me and it's Friday, let's chat clothes. Wednesday was Pink Shirt Day (wiki link here) so I put together an outfit with this not-yet-worn-this season pink suede shirt.
I was bullied in elementary school, so I support the "be more kind" philosophy.

  • Suede shirt - Danier Leather, consignment; last worn here in February 2018 (and I was sick there too)
  • Skirt - Marc Jacobs, thrifted; last seen here in January with teal velvet and glitter galore
  • Shoes - Amante, vintage, thrifted; last worn here in January with Shoulder Of Unusual Size
  • Coat (below) - Forever 21, thrifted; last seen here a couple of weeks ago

I knew as soon as I woke up that I was sick, but I went to work for 2 hours to get some important stuff done (office coffee order), and take care of enough of the rest of my job to be away for 2 days. I could just not go in (I know!) but it's not worth the chaos that would ensue. Being kind to myself, there.
Anyway, I'm done with this pink top, although it is butter soft and has ruffles (ruffles!). It does up with hook-and-eyes up the front, and they pop open, and it's just not a great cut on me. I don't mind - it wasn't a go-to item and I didn't love it that much. I paid $69.00 for it (here) and only wore it 3 times - that's only once a year since I got it. Not great, but oh, well. You can't win 'em all. *shrug*

I do love this skirt, which is why I'm wearing it again so soon (for me).
I have a black tank under the shirt, and my Christian Dior (thrifted) half-slip on under the unlined skirt, but I didn't like the hem of it hanging down, so I took it off.

Real face. I is a sick.
How soon can I get back into bed?

Outerwear - still making an effort!
I might be done with the Grape Ape after this season too. Not sure yet, and no need to decide now.

  • Cashmere beret - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - consignment

The stuff:
I just love how these shoes look and feel on - they are insanely comfortable, very stable, and such a classic shape. And with snakeskin! Can you believe I only paid $10 for them years ago?

Grey bling:
A little blurry, like my brain...

  • Belt - BCBG Max Azria, thrifted
  • Earrings - local
  • Hematite ring - thrifted

I slept most of the day on Wednesday. I think I was up for about 3 hours total. On Thursday, it was more of the same, only I still had to do my WW meeting in the evening - only 2 hours!
I'd been planning to wear this outfit anyway, and since no one knew I'd already worn it, I wore it all again today/Friday to work. Exactly the same, down to the accessories.

  • Turtleneck - Jacob, thrifted; last seen here in February under my Stained Glass dress
  • Dress - Kenzo, consignment; first worn here (2nd outfit) for Urbanite at the Art Gallery a week ago
  • Boots - Clarks; last seen here with autumn textures in February
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in January

My Cinderella's Rags dress re-purposed from kooky artsy look to daytime work appropriate. Ta-dah!
The black turtleneck is textured and works with the touches of dark grey in the dress's pattern. It's also sparkly! No plain black turtlenecks in my wardrobe; only sparkly.

The dress is quite full and blousy in the top, so I have tucked a bunch of it under my belt.
I wore my Dior half-slip all day this time, as my tights and the cotton lining really wanted to wrestle.

I'm looking forward to wearing this dress in warm weather that's more suited to the fabric.
"You should come back to bed with me."

Vizzini's not impressed with my faux pockets, but he was a very good cuddle-monster while I've been dealing with the onset of the flu.

Outerwear - it's getting sunnier these days, and I can almost feel spring in the air. It's officially March now, so I'm on my last month of my autumn/winter wardrobe before the Great Swap-Over.
This is when I re-wear many of my favourite items, give a last shot to pieces I'm on the fence about, or just toss what I'm done with. It's a good feeling.

  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

I have a lot of spring/summer things that I've bought in the last 5 months - I'm excited to build outfits with them.

The stuff:
I bused to work, and went for a light dinner after with one of my colleagues, who then drove me home. Easy boots.

Graphic bling:
I love my Fendi belt.

  • Belt - Fendi, thrifted
  • White gold earrings - 10th anniversary gift from L
  • Torc bracelet/ring - POLY, thrifted/vintage fair
  • Crystal/silver ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy
  • Silver/gold cuff - JPL, vintage fair

And now, as I have promised myself, the couch beckons. I'll be taking it pretty quiet this weekend, but I'll be back on Sunday. Happy weekend and practice self-care!

  1. I was wondering where you disappeared to. Hope you're feeling better! You look lovely in both outfits. I have to say I'm not a fan of hook & eye closures either.

    1. Thanks, Dar, just hanging in there right now. Yeah, those types of closures never quite work for me.

  2. Take care, Shiela, hope you're resting up. I love the pink ruffled shirt on you, but if it's not making you feel fab, then off it goes.

Your tan boots are also lovely, I'm looking out for some brown or tan long boots for this winter. I wore my last brown pair until the material flaked off. I was sad to see them go. X

    1. Thank you, Jess. I remind myself: if I want to keep shopping, then I have to give things up!

Go for leather boots next time!

  3. Poor Sheila, of course I missed you, and I was actually relieved to see that you'd posted! I would have been the same as you, going into work to get the most urgent matters done before going home and retiring to bed. It's a good plan to take it easy this weekend. Shame about the pink blouse, as it does like amazing with the grey pleated skirt, textured belt and those divine shoes. But oh no, how can you be done with the Grape Ape? I really love this incarnation of the Poor Cinderella dress with the tan boots and massive belt. Even if I had a few doubt when I first clapped eyes on the dress, you've managed to convince me! xxx

    1. Aw, thank you, Ann. I'm only thinking about the Grape Ape - I don't think I'll be doing anything drastic! Thank you for being honest about the rags dress!

  4. I do hope you are feeling better, Sheila, flu is horrible.

I liked your ruffled suede blouse with the grey skirt and those fabulous shoes. I loved your Kenzo dress with the jumper underneath, the lovely boots and fab belt. What a very versatile dress!

  5. Oh Sheila I'm so sosrry to hear you have the flu! I hope you can rest up and recover well! I like the idea to rewear an outfit to save the hassle of trying to find a new one. And I'm in awe of your ability to get up, go into work for a few hours and return home. Last time I did that was pre-kids, now I'm like, eh, it can wait until I'm back in the office, haha! I do often regret the choice when I return to the office though! Hope you have a good, restful weekend and feel better soon! Thanks so much for your comments on my blog - about the Balenciaga bag and the shopping video, they really made me smile! :) from one $400 shoe wearer to another ;)

  6. I was off for a few days to the UK, so I hadn't noticed that you were gone for a few days too. I hope you felt a lot better this weekend. And got to do some nice things too. The dress with the cognac belt and boots is fantastic. I absolutely love that trenchcoat too, fabulous one!

  7. Love the Pink Shirt Day iniciative, as it's necessary to be conscious about this problem and keep a safe atmosphere at work, at schools, everywhere. Sorry about the pink shirt, its color and ruffles are adorable!
And I'm loving your rags dress, it's cool! and it looks fab with the tan belt and boots, these accessories enhance it and créate a spring-like feeling!.
    Lovely!

      Thank you, Monica!

  8. Hope you feel better! So into that Rag to Riches dress and the gorgeous boots. I didn't know about Pink Shirt Day. I was never bullied as a kid, but was just in the past few years as an adult and I was like---my goodness how would a young child handle this??? Terrible!!

You're lucky to have missed it as a kid, but it's just as bad as an adult!

    1. Yes, the plague has gotten me...all sudden-like. :)

I am always lured in by leather, and ruffles, even when the garment isn't really suited to me.

      Thanks, Vix!

  10. I'm so sorry you got the flu! Hope you are feeling much better by now. Our office has been a breeding ground of germs and every day someone has been off sick.

I like the floaty dress with the wide belt and those boots - the caramel colours work great with the dress.

  11. As I'm so far behind with my reading I know I don't have to say get well soon as you're there already. I was sorry to see the pink ruffle top being ejected, but hey it's all about the fit isn't it?
