Glamazon Tiger, Vintage Melange, and a Kitty

Gah, such a short weekend! It only feels like a few minutes ago that I was getting ready to unleash the tiger dress on the Art Gallery for Urbanite!
Rar! That is quite the dress!

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style. Go, now, hurry!

  • Dress - The 1300 Collection, Holt Renfrew, vintage 70s, thrifted; first worn here (3rd outfit) in September 2016 for Vero's birthday
  • Booties - London; last seen here in October with baby blue and sheer dots
  • Sleeveless coat (below) - Only, thrifted; last worn here in October

Urbanite (link here, 'cause I love!) was not quite ready for this much RAR - I got a lot of side-eye from the jean-and-tunic set. It's the Art Gallery, people - step up your game and put something fun on! There were not that many people who dressed up compared to previous iterations of Urbanite, which was disappointing. Half of my reason for going is to check out what people wear!
While I love the whole concept of this amazing tiger-print - and it is a Swoosh Factor 10, by the way - this dress is done for me.

I have better dresses, to be honest.
It's also in really rough shape, condition-wise. I spent 10 minutes stapling up the hem, which has several rips in it, and holes where I stepped on it last time I wore it. There is also a hole at the waist, which my belt is covering up.

However, I felt like a Glamazon in it, and considering I only paid $22.95 for it (a cost-per-wear of $11.50 is great!), I'm totally fine with letting it go.
It's good to let these pieces go - more room for new-to-me things in my closet! And I'll always have the pictures.

The dress is 100% acetate and is quite warm on its own, so I did my sleeveless wrap coat over it for the brief walk to and from the Art Gallery.
L, me, Nick and Elaine enjoyed people-watching, a few bevvies and the DJ's tunes, and Elaine and I explored the new exhibits in the Gallery. Always a fun time out with friends.

  • Studded leather gloves - Danier Leather

The stuff:
The dress was quite long (even after I stapled it up some more), so I needed a fairly high heel that I could actually walk in. My feet were pretty sore after 4+ hours of standing/walking in these booties, though.

I was not alone in wearing black booties; I swear I have never seen so many in one place at one time! I spotted a few pairs of interesting shoes (including some fabulous red Fluevog boots), and dispensed kudos to anyone who dressed outside the norm. *sigh* Sometimes I despair at the bland fashion in this town.

Gold bling:
Shiny gold is such a statement. I wore this same belt and earrings last time I wore the dress.

  • Purse - Reiss, thrifted
  • Belt - thrifted, Powell River, gift from Louise
  • Earrings - Aldo Accessories
  • Amber ring - c. 1997
  • Floral ring - Sarah Coventry, vintage store, Powell River
  • Bronze ring - P. Sarpaneva, vintage 70s, vintage fair

L and I were up early to meet Chris and Alison for brunch at Floyd's on Saturday morning.
We also went to see "Thor: Ragnarok" with them afterwards, so I needed a comfy outfit for sitting in a big reclining chair for two hours.

  • Dress - A Dress Town Original, vintage 60s, thrifted; last seen here in February (same necklace!)
  • Shoes - Miista; last worn here in October with an evil dress
  • Grape Ape coat (below) - Forever 21, thrifted; last seen here this month over plaid

And...not feeling this dress anymore either. It's joined the tiger dress in the giveaway pile.
However, I wore it at least 8 times in the past 2+ years, and only paid $15.95 for it, so I'm good with under $2 a wear. It just didn't ring my bell and isn't spurring me to be creative, and so...goodbye!
We loved "Thor: Ragnarok" by the way - if you're into the whole superhero movie thing, it was hilarious. Well worth seeing!

My outerwear functioned as a blanket in the chilly theatre.
Yeah, I'm just not feeling this whole outfit. Blah.

The stuff:
Love the shoes - they were fabulous for walking to and from town.

More gold bling:
 A couple of mismatched earrings.

  • Necklace - Nygard, consignment
  • Stud - don't remember
  • Other earring - c. 1996

L and I stayed home on Saturday night and played board games. Good times, spent with our fuzzy little guy, who has missed us being at home with him.
"No, I'm totally not watching you in the reflection..."
He chills near us, waiting for us to get up so that he can meow for kitty treats.
"Since you're going to the kitchen anyway..."
I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

  3. Bland fashion is EVERYWHERE! And nobody dresses up for much of anything anymore. It's a sad commentary on society. I miss getting ideas from what others are wearing, but I do appreciate your efforts!

    1. It is! I was really disappointed, especially so close to the holidays! I thought for sure people would be dressed up. Thanks, Gerrilyn!

  5. Oh it's a shame that those dresses aren't staying in your wardrobe, they look great but how you feel in them is more important and if a dress is fussy it wouldn't be staying in my wardrobe long either!

I think Brisbane wouldn't really impress you fashion-wise either, mostly just shorts and tees or tanks to beat the heat, haha! Everyone in Sydney was so glamourous, I always love when I visit another city and see how everyone is dressed.

    1. Yeah, I can't keep things just because I like them, especially if I don't LOVE them. I like the tiger dress a lot, but it's in really rough shape. I like the other dress, but I don't love it.

Oh, there are so many places where people just don't make an effort. It makes me sad.

  6. Wow! You look absolutely amazing in the tiger dress, Sheila! I also despair at the bland fashion I see on a daily basis!! That's why I love your blog so much, Sheila! Thanks for the inspiration. XXX

  7. You're looking fabulous in the tiger maxi, what a pity it's in such a bad shape ... I'm taking on board your tip of stapling the hem, though. That 60s shift is such a fab dress, but if you don't feel it anymore, I agree you have to let it go. Fashion's pretty bland here in Antwerp as well, in spite if it being a minor fashion capital! xxx

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I didn't realize how rough it was! Stapling worked great (tip: staple it backwards, so that the "arms" go through from the back, so that they don't snag on hosiery). I think fashion in general is going through a real slump right now, in terms of what people on the street are actually wearing.

  8. That is a very glamorous dress but if it's too long and not in good condition then it has to go! I loved it with the sleeveless jacket. I loved the other dress; the colour and pattern was brilliant but you've certainly had your money's worth!!

    Vizzini is looking very cool...

Vizzini is such a ham. :)

  11. You're very healthy with this "wear it until you don't love it" attitude - a great policy. I think I maybe would benefit from this little and often clear out system. Having said that, the tiger dress did look blooming amazing and made you look soooooo tall!

    1. I need to make room for new stuff, Anna - I'm not going to stop shopping! I love the tiger dress too - but it's not worth it for me to pay a lot of $$ to fix it. I'm good with letting it go.

  12. So true, there are very few opportunities to wear outstanding dresses like this one, why not do it ?!!!

  13. you totally rock in your glamazon outfit!, roarrr, and Swoosh Factor 10 is a plus!, glad that you enjoyed it properly before letting go!
And I like your cute psychedelic dress, it's a nice dress, but it's better to make room for more fabulousness (I agree!). We went to see 'Thor' too, and I laughed a lot! (Mr.A. didn't enjoy it so much than I did!)

    1. Thank you! I wish I could keep the dress, but it's a goner, unfortunately. It felt time to let the other dress go, as well.

  14. People didn't dress up? GAaaa! I look at some of the incredible clothing in the thrift shops and even retail and wonder, does anyone buy this? If they do, where are they hiding it?!! Both those dresses are, gulp, frigging amazing!!! But you gotta do what you gotta do.

    1. I know! I was appalled at the slack fashion. Where are all the dresses, and fancy clothes? Are they just sitting in people's closets?

  15. I am go8ng back in time with your links to older posts. Love that top dress. I can understand you parting with it as there was a lot of maintenance on the dress, but boy did you look good in it. Glad at least you put in the effort. I hope all the tunic-jeans people were jealous.
