Falling Leaves, Raising Hemlines

In the span of about a week, autumn has fallen. The leaves are swirling on the sidewalks, the air is crisp and cold.
So, of course, a very short skirt was in order!

  • Cardigan - Jacob, thrifted; last seen here on Saturday with pretty plaid
  • Top - Kut from the Kloth, thrifted; purchased here on the weekend for $12.95
  • Skirt - Oui Set, thrifted; last seen here (4th outfit, way down) in February for theatre with Mom
  • Shoes - Teapot Sencha, Fluevog; last worn here (3rd outfit) in March with a sailor dress
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather; last seen here in October over autumn camo

I'm probably causing collective gasps and pearl-clutching for wearing such a short skirt...when I'm over fifty! Heavens to Betsy!

Does this look like I care?

First time wearing this blouse - liked it, good colours. I wore a burgundy camisole under it to avoid and cleavage-related accidents. I'll probably wear it more in the spring/summer.
I actually had a much longer red pencil skirt on instead of this woolly mohair one, but I felt frumpy in it. Blah! I don't want to feel frumpy! Into the discard pile, and I'm happy to see it go. I need to feel good in my clothes!

Sensing a theme of "get rid of it!" lately? I never feel bad about pulling clothes out of my wardrobe and putting them in the discard pile. It takes me around 6 months to give away stuff, so it's always there if I really miss an item, but...I really don't. I have lots of pictures if I really miss them.
And it's not like I paid a ton for anything I own, I remind myself. I can always do a cost-per-wear analysis to make myself feel better. I sometimes find myself thinking that I have to keep something because "I paid good money for this!" - does that ever keep you from tossing something you don't love?

Outerwear - I'm vain and didn't wear a hat. I had a cold head.
It's nearly too cold for my leather coats - "leather weather" is a small window in fall and spring that is perfect for wearing leather. When it's windy and a little rainy, but not too cold, that's the sweet spot.

  • Scarf - Story of Shanghai, thrifted
  • Gloves  - Parkhurst

The stuff:
These shoes are getting up there - I've had them for nearly 10 years, I think. Still comfy as heck.

Delicate bling:
So unlike me!

  • Necklace/earrings - Plum
  • Cuff - Matisse, Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair - first wearing

  1. Autumn has arrived bringing you as a vision of autumny-ness too. Frumpy is the worst feeling ever and one that we need to battle, every time! The mini is uber cute and perfect with this pretty blouse. Working backwards so not yet come across the shopping trip where this comes in.

    1. I know, must fight the frump! No worries, I enjoy how you discover things this way!

  2. The "I paid good money for this" reason has me holding on to stuff... which is why I probably thrift more now. In fact last month I only bought ONE item brand new and yet it was still on sale.
I love the new top and pairing it with burgundy was a great choice Sheila.

    1. It's hard to let things go when you paid "good money" for them! Thrifting items helps me to keep things under control. Thank you, Lorena!
