Sunshine Dress Needed

Thank you all for your kind and understanding comments from yesterday's post. None of us have perfect lives - it's important to show sometimes that we struggle. We aren't alone in this.
I struggle with insecurity, anxiety, shyness...most of the time I am good at hiding it. Today is a little better, but I don't sleep well (never have), and I just feel all worn out. No energy, even in a sunshine yellow dress like this one.

  • Dress - Calvin Klein, thrifted; last worn here in June with dots and stripes
  • Shrug - Marciano, thrifted; purchased here on the weekend for $13.95
  • Shoes - Asos, consignment; last seen here in July with my funky Italian dress

I had lots of compliments on this dress - it's such a lovely, buttery yellow. I fooled everyone - no one looked at ME, just the clothes. Clothes = Armour.

All the pastels! Yellow, pink, turquoise, green. I'm like a Disney princess.
Loved the shrug and varied between having it on and taking it off. Too hot, too cold. But it was soft.

The stuff:
 Pretty pink shoes.

Blue and green bling:
The pink shoes match the pink dragonflies in the obi.

  • Obi - handmade, thrifted
  • Bracelet - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Green crystal ring - consignment

Here's to more sunshine - both literal and metaphorical - tomorrow.

    1. I know! Most of the time I can handle it, but sometimes it becomes overwhelming and I want to just hide from the world. Thank you, sweetheart.

  2. First of all, I'm sending a hug. So interesting that you see clothes as armour. So do I -- at various stressful or sad times in my life I've used clothes to project the confidence I did not feel.
I see your style as a gorgeous artistic expression that we are privileged to see on your blog. Such a gorgeous outfit here -- LOVE the colours. The obi pulls it all together. Thanks so much for your inspiration.

    1. Thank you, Cynthia. Oh yes, I've always used clothing as armour, ever since I was in my teens. But yes, my clothing is also my art - thank you for being so appreciative, and for your very kind comment.

  3. glad that you feel better!, you look really like a ray of sunshine, gorgeous in those pastels, and I love how your glasses match your turquoise shrug and cute belt. Fabulousness!
Sometimes all we can do is to wear some vitaminic color to cheer up the day and wait until the blues goes away.

    1. Thank you, my dear! Yellow is the colour I turn to when I'm grey inside. I love your expression "vitaminic colour" - brilliant!

  4. I love the colours in this outfit and I agree with the clothes as armour thing. I often wonder if that's why I have my bag obsession - big (although lately I've been favouring smaller) bright bags so it's them that gets the attention rather than my clothes (which I'm not always confident about). I know too well how lack of sleep can affect things so I hope you are feeling better tomorrow and you manage to get some quality rest tonight!

    1. Bags would certainly work as "distraction" in the same way bright clothes would, Mica - I think that's a great insight into yourself and your own confidence. I so appreciate your good vibes - I am starting to come out of my slump. Thank you!

  5. Well here goes another compliment on that fabulous dress: you're dashing my dear friend, regardless of how you may feel. As we are both aware keeping our outfits fun helps when we're feeling off. It seems we are on the same step, sleepless nights indeed wear one out ... all I can say is that you will feel better and that I wish i could hug you !

  6. How wonderful to have this outpouring of love from your readers. Your honesty is disarming and encourages us likeminded souls to step forward and confess to our own shortcomings. One day I hope to feel brave enough to feature my own issues on the blog, but not yet.
You do indeed look like a Disney princess today and I hope that the colours gave you cheer. The primrose dress is a dream, so romantic with all of the perfect accessories. I always admire your endless creativity and find you so inspiring Sheila.
Like you, I'm shy and use my clothes as my armour to deflect any attention from myself and onto my costume of the day. You are my tribe and it's like coming home when I visit you.

    1. Anna, isn't the blogging world so incredibly special? Such wonderful people, being supportive and kind. It is scary putting oneself out there (will people react poorly? will they judge me? will they reject me? will they troll me?), and you have every right to project yourself however you want to.

Thank you so much - I knew we were kindred spirits from the day I found your blog (or you found me? I forget!). Hugs to you, my dear!
