Magenta Tassels and the Metal Dress

I'm just home from a 3-glass-of-wine dinner with my bestie, Janet, and I'm feeling happy and content. I dressed for the occasion (like I need an excuse!). I wore matching tassels!
Janet also just got her first tattoo, so I had to show my "Inked Women" solidarity! We have known each other since we were 12 (her) and 13 (me) years old. We never thought we'd have tattoos!

  • Dress - Comrags, thrifted; last seen here (way down past my seasonal closet swap-over pics) in March for my Women of X company dinner
  • Shoes - Coclico; last worn here in July with flowers and denim
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) a couple of weeks ago

Now, I know you are all wondering where my hair is...calm, calm, it's just clipped up at the back. I did not chop it off. It's a little plastic clippy thing, and my hair is twisted up with lots of beach spray and hairspray. It stayed put pretty well, so expect to see more of this type of thing as I lose patience with having longer hair over the next while...however long it takes to get my hair to where I go, "I'm good." I don't know where that is right now - I'm just playing it by ear.
The dress! It's lovely, isn't it? It fits me perfectly, and it is special because it's 8% metal. Really! It's very shiny (as you can see) and it crunches up like aluminum foil (as you can also see at that back slit).

Janet and I went to Bodega for tapas and wine, and bizarrely, a woman walked in wearing this SAME DRESS. Hers was shorter - she'd obviously had it hemmed - but unmistakably the same dress. She didn't come in - "You looked better," said Janet.

Covered up in one of my best cost-per-wear purchases so far over the last year and a bit. I wear this coat a lot, and I've even washed it.
I had very positive reactions to this look today, from men and women, including some crazy man following me to tell me how much he liked my hair. I didn't really plan this outfit aside from dress + shoes, but I knew it would be popular because it's a pretty easy outfit to "get." Nice pattern, matching colours (bonus points for matching my hair!), classic femme styling.

The stuff:
The highest shoes I can wear all day and still be pretty comfortable.

Complementary bling:
Unlike the dress/shoes combo, the jewelry was very deliberate and planned. Mixed metals, shapes and colours - one of my coworkers (male) noticed this and asked about it. I appreciated his eye for the detail - this doesn't happen by accident!

  • Earrings - consignment, Vancouver
  • Gold cuff - thrifted
  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Death Star ring - Soul Flower
  • Amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1960, Dad's

  1. I love your hair up! I really need to get better at putting my hair up, it's just long and unruly at the moment but it's got further to grow before I can cut it off to donate it!

You have accessorised this outfit beautifully of course. It's incredible you saw someone with the same dress! Especially as you have so many varied and unique pieces in your wardrobe, what are the chances? A very cool coincidence.

    1. Thank you, Mica! Aw, that's awesome that you are growing it for donation! Thank you! I know, so weird. It's not even a current dress (probably several years old).

  4. The magic shoe-heel combo. That's the best! If you went to the airport in this, I don't suppose they'd make you take off the dress? Heh. What are the odds of two people in that very same dress?! Freeeaky. Love this. BWI, hahaha!!

    1. Yes, it really is magic! I will avoid wearing this dress in an airport, I promise. It's so weird. They wouldn't even have made that many of this dress - maybe a dozen, tops?

  5. Oh you had me thinking you had chopped it off- if you do - it looks good too !!! And I have to add that short hair does not look good on everyone ;)
Love the dress and how bizarre that you'd find another person wearing it... I mean if it was off the rack at Zara but this is a thrifted item. Actually when I thrift its one of my things, I dont want to look the same as everyone else.

    1. Ha, I knew I would fool someone! Thank you, my dear. I love my hair short too - we shall see how I do with long(er). Yes, exactly! It is SO rare to see anything the same that I own, due to thrifting! It's one of the reasons why I do it too!

  6. Isn't it grand when you have the option of sweeping your hair up like this? Love your matching shoes/hair trick, so pretty! And yes, who would have believed that two women could be in the very same place in this unusual dress? Am pleased to hear you looked best in it, hehe!

  7. Wow, another brilliant outfit Sheila!
I adore the pirinted shift, love how the tattoos look almost part of the dress from a fist glance.
The tassel earrings and pump art so such and fun, the color so rich!
    That jacket, yum! A favorite!

  8. You do look very much a "lady" in this outfit. I like the hair up; it's nice to have options when it comes to styling your hair. I like having mine really short, but it doesn't allow for any changes (except for wigs, I guess).

That is very strange that you should see someone in the same dress while wearing yours, especially when it is such a unique dress. What are the odds?

    1. Thanks, Shelley! I miss the convenience of short hair, and it's likely I'll chop it all off again in the future, but for now it's fun. I know, how weird to see the same dress!
