A Whale of a Day

A busy day at work, followed by a periodontist appointment (I have these every 4 months, oh, yay), followed by a power failure due to a "Bird on our wires" according to BC Hydro.
It's been a whale of a day. It's like I knew it was going to happen, because I wore my whale sweater. Only in my mind, instead of a heart coming out of him, it's a tangled up snarl.

  • Sweater - C. Wonder, thrifted; last seen here in April with a duster
  • Skirt - Un Deux Trois, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in June with the purple tiger yellow shirt (for more dentistry)
  • Shoes - Matisse; first worn here in July with some formal wear
  • Bomber jacket (below) - Lazy Susan's; last seen here in June over backwards floral

This outfit was put together around the shoes and having to sit upside down in a dentist chair for 2 hours. A thin sweater and a stretchy skirt and easy shoes.
I'm done with the skirt - off it goes to the giveaway pile. It's...fine, but I don't love it. A grey skirt is useful, but that's not enough reason to keep it. I wore it 4 times and paid $12.99 for it, so I'm good with it being $3.25 per wear.

I'm in a clean-out mode for my summer stuff, starting to eye the stuff on backward hangers to see what hasn't been worn yet. Those clothes have until Sept 30th (when I switch my closet over) to get worn, and then I have to make a serious evaluation on whether they stay. There aren't many unworn items - the usual assortment of formal dresses that I keep - but there are a few.

Totally making the cut:
Oh yeah. I love this bomber jacket.

The stuff:
Photo done with natural light only, as I arrived home to a pitch-dark building. L had to send the cleaner home, so I'm stuck with our dirty house for another two weeks. I think I'll live.

Loved these shoes this time around - I wore a pair of little footy nylons that I got in the drugstore with them. No toe-rubbing! Yay!

Simple bling:
Yup, nothing special, but pieces I've had forever. Comfort jewelry.

  • Earrings - Plum
  • Ring - Nine West
Edited to add a big "mwah" blogger hug and a thank you! to Patti at Not Dead Yet Style for featuring me along with four other fab women in her "Expressing Yourself: Over-40 Women Lead the Way" post! Wow, what an honour!

  1. Talk about funny-I was just saying how much I love animals on clothes and accessories! I especially love owls and foxes, but I must say I am loving your whale sweater! So cute! I'd like to see your tangled snarl version too! Ha! XXX Sasha

    1. Only 5 weeks to go! This method works really well for me - it really lets me see what I don't gravitate to, and helps me keep the size of my wardrobe under control.

  3. I am a fan of your whale sweater.
Oh too bad about the skirt, but I know what you mean... I am in full closet edit mode. Every other day I am wearing something I recently found in the closet, unworn and it gets more and more frustrating. But, the show must go on ;)

    1. It's a pretty cool sweater. :) The skirt used to have a lining that hung out, and I cut it out, but it still wasn't right. I'm sure I'll find another one!

  5. The poor bird. Oooh. But I hope you got your power back on. It's very frustrating. And I'm glad you got that dental appointment over with - it's so worth going. I like to have a blankie on me during my appointments. Heh.

    1. I found out today it was actually a mylar balloon. F**k!

Yes, I value my teeth, but boy, I do not like going.

  6. I am looking forward to getting a bigger house so I have a bigger wardrobe and I can try the hanger trick! It's too difficult to do now with a lot in boxes, and I'm only just getting back into 'regular' wardrobe options after all the pregnancies and breastfeeding. It would be nice to do it in 2018, but we will see if a house turns up!

Hope you have a better day tomorrow and less stressful things happen!

    1. Mica, that was a huge factor for me when we bought our place - I would never move to a place that didn't have a proper storage area for my clothes! Make it a priority for you! Don't forget to put yourself first - really, you deserve it!

      Thank you, sweetheart!

  7. I'm so pleased to hear that the bomber jacket stays - it's rather fab and looks great with today's equally fab shoes. Bye-bye skirt isn't too painful at that cost per wear.

I'm about to start some long term dental work so will follow your advice about comfy clothes for my first two hour appointment next week, thank you!

    1. I did let go of the jungle bomber jacket, though - I didn't wear it much this summer. No, I'm fine with letting the skirt go. I wasn't in love with it.

Oh, good vibes to you, my dear! Ugh!

  8. I seem to be always in Purge Mode these days and am questioning whether I really love every piece of clothing I put on. I really like the whale sweater so I hope it stays with you.

    1. I'm trying to do that too - it's fun to have pieces for a short time, though, and I love passing them along. Oh yes, the whale sweater stays!
