Office Matchy in Wide, Wide Legs

When I have a new piece that I'm nervous excited about, I tend to do a few try-ons in the closet to see how it's going to look on me. I kind of just winged it with these pants.
I did put the jacket, the teal shell and the shoes together with it, and I had picked out all my jewelry the night before, but I didn't do the finishing touch until I got dressed this morning.

  • Jacket - Suzy Shier, thrifted; last seen here with blah magenta and white in August 2016
  • Shell - Jessica, thrifted; not tracked
  • Trousers - Linda Lundstrom, swap from Caro; given to me here on the weekend
  • Shoes - First by Feet First; last seen here in May with a sack dress

Let's get to the elephant in the room - these are whackadoo pants! They are a rounded profile, like someone with really large knees stretched them out. They're wide in the leg but taper down to the ankles. They are weird...
But I like them! They were really fun to wear.

I know they might not look super-flattering, but maybe it's like with the skinny jeans in the mid-oughts: we just need to give our eyes time to get used to seeing wide-legged trousers again?
If they have pockets, they're a win in my book.

I asked Emily from work if I could feature her in today's post. Why? We matched!
Oops, I forgot to take off my keys/access cards
Emily is my finger on the zeitgeist of officewear. If she's wearing it, then it's the thing to wear. We are both doing:
  • Cropped, fitted jackets that don't do up, with scrunched up arms
  • A basic solid coloured shell, not a high neck
  • High-waisted, full pants with a tapered ankle
  • An obi-style belt (mine's separate, hers is attached to her pants)
  • Pointed-toe basic pumps

I'm doing a whole lot more colour, obviously, but so similar! I haven't been this matchy with someone in the office in a long time. I did get many compliments on this outfit, so I dunno, maybe I've struck gold with my outfit?

The stuff:
Blue suede shoes. You really can't go wrong!

Silver and steel bling (with a side of blue):
The obi was the missing piece that I did not anticipate needing, but once I put it on, it just pulled everything together. Good thing I had a magenta, blue and teal one!

  • Obi - Smoking Lily, thrifted
  • Earrings - Joyce's, vintage 80s
  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Hematite bracelet - thrifted
  • Death Star ring - Soul Flower
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

  1. It's fun to experiment with clothing shapes that we would have otherwise rejected - you never know what outfit you might come up with. I love wide-leg pants and I prefer them to the skinny legging-like pants that so many people are wearing.
Nice colour pairing in this outfit.

    1. It is! I still have issues with skinny jeans - I feel very self-conscious in them. Thanks, Shelley!

  6. I live this ensemble--both the array of colors and the terrific shapes of the pieces. Flowy pants and pointed pumps, anthem cropped jacket!!!

    1. Thank you, Linda! It was outside my comfort zone, but I was really happy with it.

  7. Oh, these are very flattering in my opinion! Fitted nicely in the hips & bum; clearly their wideness of leg is theirs only, not yours; and their below-heel length with highish waist makes your legs appear practically endless.
