Weekend Wrap-Up: Fringed Friday, Dressed for Ink, Tattoo Me, Theatre in Red

I decided to take Friday off blogging, just to relax and centre myself a bit. L was out, I'd had a stressful week at work, and I had my final tattoo work on Saturday.
An easy outfit for Friday was called for!

  • Shirt - Dept, consignment; last seen here for our trip to PR in August
  • Trousers - Banana Republic, thrifted; last worn here with shiny brocade in August
  • Shoes - Noa Noa, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) with fringe in September
  • Coat (below) - Pioneer Wear, vintage 80s, thrifted

This shirt is one of my favourites - I actually built this entire outfit around the not-yet-worn earrings, though!
Comfy, stretchy trousers, flat shoes and some shiny details.

But then you throw this little bit of insanity at the world.
Cobalt blue suede fringe! I never need an excuse to wear this, but I don't wear it that often (last time was here in December 2015).
I waggled my fringe at everyone. "Hey baby, check out my pony beads."

The stuff:
I do love a good silver shoe.

Simple bling:
And there are the earrings that started it all.

  • Earrings - furniture shop, first wear
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

On Saturday morning, L and I were both up early for a walk to town for my pre-tattoo breakfast.
Clothes one can lie down in for 3 hours.

  • Dress - Kensie, last worn here last Christmas 2015 for our pilgrimage to PR
  • Boots - Matisse, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) the day after my left arm tattoo outline in October
  • Grape Ape coat (below) - Forever 21, thrifted

It's been getting chillier and I had to be prepared to be cold while at Painted Lotus, but also be able to shove my dress' sleeve up past my shoulder while Mason worked on me.
I can also pull this dress down below my knees for extra coverage.

Outerwear:
Snuggly faux fur to wrap myself in on the table. Notice how I matched my tights to the coat. It's like I planned it!

The stuff:
I'm not a beige fan, but in a boot, I'm cool with it.

Sane bling:
The cuff is a quote from Edgar Allan Poe: "I became insane with intervals of horrible sanity."

  • Cuff - Jezebel Charms, gift from L
  • Earrings - Plum

I had a few minutes before my appointment, so I popped into Footloose to see what caught my eye.
I can hear some of you crying, "Nooooooo!" but yes, this is another pair of wedge-heeled sneakers, only this time in acid yellow. You may remember my previous pair (now in the giveaway pile) from "Shoes My Husband Hates" here in June.

While the black ones reminded me of hooves and looked very chunky and blocky on my feet, I feel like the acid yellow will go better with my skin tone and be a fun shoe in the summer.
These are by Ash, and brand new, they were only $10.00!

It's like people don't like wedge-heeled acid yellow sneakers!
For $10.00, they were worth another try at this look.

Okay, okay, here you go - here's my completed tattoo.
There's a bit of shine due to my skin being puffy/swollen and the light coming from the deck.

I LOVE the red rose.
I think that this arm is my favourite. Sorry, right arm.
Thank you to Mason LaRose for your wonderful work on this! Both arms were about 13-14 hours of work total. I think I am good for tattoos for a while now. Maybe...

This afternoon, Mom and I are going to see "I Think I'm Fallin'" at the Belfry Theatre, a musical play around the songs of Joni Mitchell (link). It's had good reviews (local review here), and should be a good one. We're out for dinner post-play, then home to chill with L and Vizzini after.
Comfy dress, and a blouse that doesn't touch the arm.

  • Dress - Talbots, consignment; last seen here in September under a jacket
  • Blouse - Violet + Claire, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) under purple suede in October
  • Shoes - Go Fresh, thrifted; last seen here in July with a plain white shirt
  • Unsafe Polar Bear coat (below) - Apparence, thrifted, vintage 80s

Something I can sit in for a few hours - this dress is a go-to when I don't feel like making too much of an effort. A full-on glam outfit on Sunday? No, thanks.
Easy shoes for walking to and from the theatre.

Outerwear:
Keep me snuggly warm, O Mighty Unsafe Polar Bear coat! I like to name my clothes - this coat has been called the Unsafe Polar Bear since November 2013 (here). I purchased it earlier that month at the now-gone Hospice thrift store (here) for $40.00. I've worn it dozens of times - I love it.

The stuff:
Blue shiny shoes!

  • Belt - Plum
  • Earrings - thrifted

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

  1. I love the finished tattoo, Sheila--wonderful! Somehow the red side has a much more old-school/traditional look. It's very clean and eye-catching. The script is gorgeous, too. Kudos to Mason!

Happy healing. I am pretty sore myself. I got my black shading + three red peonies and a single green leaf, just to say we did.

    1. Thank you! I think I prefer the red side, but I like that they don't match. I'm sore today - it's quite swollen. Yowtch, yours sounds wonderful...but painful! Happy healing!

  2. Beautiful art on your arm! I love the long red? orange? dress -- looks great with that blouse. The two necklines are very flattering together.

  3. Your finished tattoo looks wonderful! :)

I really like your play outfit too. I have a couple of similar dresses and I'm eager to wear them again with printed shirts like you have here. When it's cooler and I'm back in the office :)

  5. Oh my goodness - how brave are you? I don't do tattoos but what a lot of work and it does look rather lovely.

Lovely outfits; I like the first one particularly, I would wear that.

As for the blue dress with a cowl; I nearly bought something similar last week but it was made of wool which was a bit hairy and it would have made itch. I was sad to leave it behind, though. Your dress looked lovely on you.

I also like the long red coloured dress with a shirt underneath - very cool. I absolutely love your new earrings!

    Have a good week, Sheila.

    1. Eh, it's just pain, Veronica - it goes away. Thank you so much! I always like when someone says they'd wear it. That dress sounds itchy - mine is a soft bamboo cotton. Happy week to you too!

  7. Congrats on the final flourish of the tattoo. It does look beautiful, even though it's not something I could bear myself. And I have to say that I really love the replacement wedge trainers - the colour makes all the difference this time, in fact, yes I would wear these ones too! And the other "I would wear piece" has to be that fantastic fringed jacket. Oh how I adore that blue baby! Gimme, gimme, gimme, whenever you're ready honey x
