Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Denim and Pearls, Spanish Ladies, Disco Tiger, Lace and Tattoo Legs, Some Shopping and a Whack of Cat Pictures

There will be no pictures of today's outfit - today being a holiday, I reserve the right to wear my comfy clothes and not photograph myself in them. However, do not fret, faithful readers and friends! I have many outfits to show you. Starting with this one, from Friday.
Yeah, my legs are not that smooth - I'm wearing nylons.

  • Dress - Armani Exchange, thrifted; first worn here in July with a skirt underneath
  • Shoes - Hispanitas; last seen here in July with vintage Valentino
  • Coat (below) - Samuel Dong, thrifted; purchased here in July for $34.95

It was a cold and rainy morning on Friday! I also had to do a bunch of physical stuff at work, so denim dress and flat shoes to the rescue. This is also my first time showing a bit of my new ink at work. Although my office is cool with tattoos, I prefer to keep my arm covered up - but a Casual Friday is the perfect time to offer a glimpse. I'm sure this time next year, I'll be flaunting my tattoos with impunity!
Second wearing of this awesome thrifted Armani dress. So comfy! I love how the elastic waist band holds everything in place.

I wore my new-to-me coat for the first time:
I hate carrying an umbrella so I donned my bowler as well. It was too hot by late afternoon to wear the coat home. I had a haircut right after work, then squashed my new 'do immediately with the hat. Sorry, Sofia!

The stuff:
I love these shoes - they are getting nice and soft and comfy.

Glitzy bling:
First wear of my $4.99 thrifted pearl necklace, purchased last weekend in Powell River.

  • Necklace - Joe Fresh, thrifted
  • Wrist-wrap - local
  • Earrings - assorted gifts from L

The earrings are mis-matched as I've lost their mates over the years.

After a quiet evening in, we were up early for Ultimate Frisbee. I am now in "must it one more time" mode for my summer clothes.
I adore this dress, and it hasn't gotten much love this spring/summer so far.

  • Cardigan - Gap, thrifted; last seen here in July with painty flowers
  • Dress - Lirub; last worn here in May, also for an Ulti game
  • Shoes - Modern Vintage, thrifted; last seen here with brocade in August

Our Ulti game was cut short due to carnage on the field! First, new player Tim ruptured his Achilles tendon, then Brad dislocated his fingers! Yikes! Both injuries were traumatic and within 10 minutes of each other, and meant that the game was ended while the guys went to the hospital! Tim went into surgery and will have a long recovery, and Brad should be okay for next season. Hopefully they will both have full recoveries!
A few of us went for lunch afterwards, then L and I napped at home for a while.

The stuff:
Oops, I can see my shoes need re-heeling for next summer. These ones are very good for walking, so I'll invest in that fix. I have a few pairs that need to see the cobbler before I pack them away.

  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Earrings - Vintage Expo

When we got home, Vizzini was sunning himself out on the deck:
"Oh, you're home. And I was just starting to enjoy the peace and quiet."
I sat down to pet him, but something on me was reflecting the sunlight onto the deck wall.
"What is this fascinating thing?"
Sorry for the toes, buddy.
"You should be! You need a shower."
After our naps, L and I got ready for our dear friend Vero's 40th birthday party. I had to go all-out!
Rowr! Now that's a tiger dress!

  • Dress - The 1300 Collection, Holt Renfrew, vintage 70s, thrifted; purchased here for $22.95
  • Shoes - Ralph Lauren, thrifted; last seen here a couple of weeks ago while flaming on

This dress is 100% acetate ("so keep me away from open flame," I helpfully told everyone), and is deliciously swooshy.
The hem was very snaggy on my original choice of shoes, these Dr. Scholls, so I changed them after I had a million snags in 30 seconds. It was all a blur!
"Seriously? You're leaving me again?"
Better shoes.
"You're not even going to give me my treats early, are you?"
The dress was a hit, especially since Vero also wore animal print (leopard)!

The stuff:
These shoes got a very hard wear. We walked to town, went for dinner, then walked to the party. I stood the entire time (and danced!), and then L and I walked home. I actually wore out some of the inside sole under the toe straps.

Disco bling!
Oh yeah, all the gold, baby!

  • Belt - thrifted
  • Earrings - Aldo Accessories
  • Ring - late 90s

I had a nice sleep in on Sunday, then walked to town for groceries.
There was a slight chill in the air, so I went with tights and booties.

  • Dress - Jacob, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) back in May to see Art Bergmann
  • Booties - Dirty Laundry, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) in April for a grocery shop
  • Jacket (below) - Smoking Lily; last worn way back here in September 2015 with mint and gold

I had a wee shop in the WIN Boutique after my grocery shop. It was a lovely day for a stroll.
I refrained from literally rolling my eyes when a fellow shopper asked if my legs were actually tattooed. Gah! There is a pattern seam! They are obviously fabric tights. Would you really think that my legs are tattooed like this?

I finally wore this shiny jacket again - I needed to keep my REAL tattoo out of the sun.
I do love that jacket, but I don't wear it very often. But...it's my closet and it's staying. So there.

The stuff:
For a non-leather bootie, these are shockingly comfortable.

Simple bling:
Nothing that will snag when trying things on.

  • Ring - local
  • Earrings - thrifted

Did I find anything? Mayyyyybeeeeee...Like this lovely plummy coloured skirt.
Did someone mention brocade being big for fall? Do I like brocade? Maybe just a smidge. This skirt is by Beloved and was an extra 25% off the whopping $6.00 it was marked at, so that's $4.50.
The "rope" belt is removable, but I like the funky tassels on the ends. The skirt is fully lined and is high-waisted. It'll be great with boots.

I blew the colour contrast out so that you can see the two pleats on the front of this skirt. The back has 4 more, so extra swingy movement when walking.
I don't usually go for black skirts (unless they are leather, ha ha!) when I'm thrifting, but I run my hand along the fabrics to make sure I don't miss any treasures. Yup, this was a treasure.

It's by Lida Baday, a Canadian designer. Link here about her ('cause I love!); unfortunately, as of 2014 (article here) she is no longer in business, sadly, another victim of "fast fashion" and consumers not wanting to pay premium prices for goods made in Canada.
This skirt is fully-lined, made of wool and angora and was $16.95. I regularly see her things in consignment stores for over $100. This skirt would have been very pricey at retail. Based on the "tulip" shape of this dress, I'd say it's from around 2008-ish.

I am always on the lookout for new camis, as they do tend to wear out over time. Here's a baby blue one.
It was $4.40 with an extra 25% off, so $3.30. I think it's Suzy Shier, but I don't feel like digging it out of the wash to check - I don't track my camis anyway!

Speaking of camis, look at this lovely teal blue one.
It's a stretch satin, and will be great as an under-layer. It was $6.00 and is by Jessica (aka Sears).

This was my score of the day. You know I can't resist a crazy faux fur! And fur is big this year, right?
This glorious monstrosity of burgundy fur is a boxy jacket (with pockets!) by H&M, and as you can see it still has its tag, so never been worn.
I may have cackled out loud at the $14.00 price tag. I don't think this was hugely expensive originally, but it's lined, pocketed and will be an awesome chilly weather topper, don't you think?

And that was my weekend, mostly. Last night, L and I hung out and played boardgames and listened to CDs, while Vizzini prowled around. He's been very disturbed by the amount of seagull action we're experiencing on the roof lately.
"Confound it, I can't reach them!"
I love his little white bib, chin goatee and his white "sea lion" whiskers.
"Those gulls are up to no good."
He was quite put out that he couldn't see them or do anything.
"Curses! They got away!"
He's so expressive.

This is later on, when he decided it was time to bother us for his kitty treats.
"I'm so cuuuute, and strettttchy...and if you don't give me treats, I'm going to claw this couch..."
When I got down close to him (tummy rubs were required), he gave me his usual look.
"Unless you have treats, there is no tum for you!"
I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing long weekend!

  1. Love that tiger print dress! It's definitely a party dress! I like that you have pieces like that in your wardrobe, where you can go all-out for a special event. You do so well with just everyday outfits making them special, but you really have glamorous special occasion pieces too :)

  8. Wonderful outfits as always, Sheila, and OMG that animal print dress is fecking gorgeous! You looked wonderful in it and I think the belt was an excellent touch. I love those shoes in your first outfit; I think they are the among my favourites of your shoe collection.

I loved your finds; you do find some amazing things. Years of an experienced eye, of course.

Have a great week and give Vizzini a tummy rub from me - if he'll let you!

    1. Thanks, Veronica! The belt is actually hiding a wee hole in the side (I pinned it as well). I've been on a roll of funky flat shoes this past year, so I'm happy to be building up that shoe wardrobe. Yes, the experienced eye spots all the good stuff! Vizzini will relent for a tummy rub from you - thank you!

  10. Oooo, what a lovely post Sheila. Am going to focus on just a few items. I'm no longer envious of your metallic ankle boots as I now have gold ones very similar, so hurrah for that. Yours I can just love without envy now. The new fur coat looks fab and I can't wait to see what it will be showcased with. And finally, bloody hell, that tiger dress is amazing. You look totally fantastic in that, with all of your curves showing in all the right places. Twit-twoo x

I love the purple skirt. I can see that color purple with something mossy green.
I seem to have a few winter skirts, and I can't wait to wear them.
I think that is a great price for a never worn furry coat. I will be waiting with bated breath to see how you style it. It'll be amazing, I'm sure.

Your party dress is spectacular. Very cool.

Great post! Give Vizzini a cuddle for me!
