I find it funny when people tell me they "can't" wear certain colours, or "can't" dress like me (i.e. mixing colours). Why not? What do they think will happen?
Maybe they will explode from all the awesome??- Jacket - H&M, thrifted; purchased here for $5.00
- Lace top - Abercrombie & Fitch, thrifted; last seen here in July with pink plaid
- Culottes - Jones New York, vintage, thrifted; last worn here in June with vintage silk
- Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last seen here in June with strapless and scrunched
This outfit is so simple it could be a formula.
Multi-coloured accessory (the necklace) + blazer in one of the colours + shoes in one of the colours + neutral top + neutral bottom = awesome! That's a pretty easy formula.
What makes this fun is that every piece is special. It's not a plain ol' lavender blazer - it's got ruffles! The top isn't a plain t-shirt - it's lace! And the bottom isn't just a black skirt or black pants - no, it's culottes!
I wore the jacket open like this all day |
I hate boring clothes. Why can't every single piece we put on be special?
The stuff:
I'm special (in my own mind, ha!), and so are my clothes.
Glitzy bling:
Life is too short for ordinary.
- Necklace - thrifted for $8.00 (first wear)
- Earrings - thrifted
- Amber ring - late 90s
- Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop
Hello to Carolyn, one of my lovely WW people, who gave me this shoe charm bracelet.
She's an admirer of my shoes - and I'm an admirer of her! Thank you!
I will be back on Sunday to regale y'all with tales of adventure! We have a big birthday party for dear Vero this weekend - and I can't wait to get all dolled up.
Yep...all kinds of awesome, you are! I wonder the same thing...when people say they can't....
ReplyDeleteThe charm bracelet is so pretty!!!
Thanks, Sue! I wish I could make people less fearful about colour, don't you?
DeleteAmazing unexpected colour combination, LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lynette!
DeleteLovely colour combination and it looks great on you. All the pieces are special; I especially like the jacket - with ruffles!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend

Much appreciated, Veronica! I know, right - ruffles!!
DeleteHaha, what a funny picture where you demonstrate that its culottes and not a skirt ;)
ReplyDeleteI like the colors and as someone who used to stay away from colors, I can say that for me it was about not getting it right.
Hee, well, I can't have you all thinking I'm wearing a dowdy old skirt! Ha! I get that concern about not getting colour right - I always tell people to look for combinations in nature - nature never gets it wrong.
Delete1) "What do they think will happen?" I am now imagining spontaneous combustion every time someone wears a color some meddling person told them they "can't" wear.
ReplyDelete2) Picking colors from that necklace is brilliant.
3) That culotte pose - I die.

Bam! Oh, another person trying to wear colour. Thank you! Ha!
DeleteYes - I think at the very least the pieces we wear should make us feel special! :)
ReplyDeleteI won't stay I find wearing colours easy, I still find it tricky, but I do attempt different things more often. I think it's more stepping out of the comfort zone and trying new things, it's scary as it's different.
Even the "junky" things can be special. We deserve that! It can be scary trying new things, but the more we try, the better we get at it!
DeleteGreat step by step guide to colour play Sheila. I'm totally with you on the let's put all our special things together - that's us gal! The jacket is adorable, shoes are a long time favourite of mine, lace top, very sweet and finally those awesome culottes! Truly wonderful ensemble. Pack it up and send it by Fedex tomorrow honey x

Thanks so much, Anna! I think it's a good thing we don't live closer!
DeleteHey Shiela, I like the reminder to actually LOVE our clothes, each and every piece where possible. I like the colour combo, and also the fact you're not just combining colours but textures as well. Cheers Sue
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sue! Colour, pattern, texture, shine, that's the magic 4, right?
DeleteStellar, Sheila! "The culotte surprise" is how I'll remember this post. Hee hee. Well, I have to say I like variety. If everyone dressed vibrantly I suspect I would be the first one pulling on the black yoga pants, which would of course be scary and scandalous. Hahaha!! I laugh but it's probably true. I think of that song, Don't Fence Me In. Heh. So happy you're not fenced in!!!!
ReplyDeleteCulotte surprise! Sounds like a delicious 1970s meal! I think you are right - if everyone dressed like us, we'd find a way to stand out, even if it meant black yoga pants (*shudder*).
