A Zig, a Zag, Some Yellow

One more wear out of this dress before the season is over!
I've been very drawn to black and white graphic patterns lately. They help ground my look, since I'm that Crazy Purple-Haired Lady.

  • Dress - Talbots, thrifted; first worn here with the blues in June
  • Shoes - Prepare Hi Steady, Fluevog; last seen here in August with another graphic dress
  • Blazer (below) - Holt Renfrew, thrifted; last worn here in June with loads of pink

No belt this time. I liked the looseness in the body. The dress skims without being too loose or too tight.
That's a good desk length too, for sitting.

I am giving all my blazers a very hard look. I've now worn this one twice this season, both times as a coat/walking to and from work. Am I done with this blazer thing?
If I get rid of this, will I regret it? How often does one find yellow blazers with nice necklines like that?

The stuff:
I love all this stuff, though. The shoes are keepers (I know they are not everyone's faves).

Yellow bling:
My yellow "set" - an old favourite.

  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Bakelite earrings - vintage fair

Don't you love it when you get something in the mail? The very generous Ally of Shybiker put up some of her DVD collection for giveaway, and I requested these. Thank you, Ally!
I love the notepaper!
Across the Universe is a musical with all Beatles' music, directed by Julie Tamor who also did Titus, an incredible adaptation of Shakespeare's play Titus Andronicus. Universe is a love story, and sap that I am, I can't wait to watch this again - I saw it in the theatre originally, in 2007.

Fawlty Towers is the amazing two-season series about the comically inept innkeeper, Basil Fawlty (John Cleese of Monty Python fame), and his wife and employees. It is one of the funniest TV series ever written (I own the screenplays in book form), and even though it's from the 70s, it is ageless. I used to own some of the shows on VHS tape, and would watch the ones I was missing whenever the Seattle PBS station did a fund-raiser, back in the 80s and 90s. I'm so happy to have them! I haven't seen the full series in decades!

Have you ever seen these before?

  1. I love that yellow blazer and I think you should keep it. My decision may be based on my regret of passing by a mustard yellow blazer in my size for $5 at the opshop years ago that I still think about.....

    1. Yes, I'm hearing the encouragement. I will keep it - I might even keep it out for fall/winter, we'll see.

  2. Sheila - I'm thinking about a pair of Fluevogs. No store in my town so I will order online. Since I can't try them on first I must ask what you would recommend for comfort. Do they run true to size? And what about the toe box? I cannot stand to have my toes squished. I'm thinking about starting with the Holly ankle bootie. Any thoughts would be most helpful! Thanks! 1. Liz, make sure you read all the comments/reviews of the shoes, and select the option to have a Fluevog salesperson contact you to discuss sizing. Their shoes are NEVER true to size, ever, and you really do have to try them on. They can be super-narrow, or super-wide. I wear FIVE different sizes in their shoes, depending on the size. I love Fluevogs, but they are extremely erratic in sizing.

  3. What an unusual, pretty dress. I really like it. You're in for a treat with "Universe": it's the rare movie you can watch over and over. And I've seen "Fawlty Towers" a dozen times; it never grows old. Thanks for the shout-out!

  4. Don't get rid of the blazer! We would call that a jacket here in the UK. It's yellow, it has a lovely neckline and it is a nice short length that skims skirts and trousers and looks fab over dresses. As you prove in your photo!

I love the yellow shoes and I'm not a huge fan of Fluevogs but these are rather special, I think.

I loved Fawlty Towers as well.

Hope your week is going well

    1. Thanks, Dawn! I do tend to wear a lot of solids and black/white mixes now that I'm firmly in the purple hair camp

  6. I vote to keep the blazer. It looks great on you. It shows off your hourglass shape, the colour suits you and you smile when you wear it. I think you might regret it if you pass it on. Colder weather is coming, so you might get more use of it in fall and winter.

    1. Thanks, Sandra! Yes, you're right. I will probably keep it, although it is usually packed away for cold weather. Maybe I need to keep it out.

  7. Hell I've just lost my whole comment! Ok, it went something like this... My purple haired friend please don't, don't get rid of your yellow jacket. I've just worn mine this week and think it's so lovely to have such an unusual colour of jacket and such a great length too. Our jackets are so very similar and I love the fact that it gives me a lift every time I wear it. The neckline of your is perfect, and I really can't see what reason you might have to get rid. And yes, Fawlty Towers is timeless and hysterically funny. I watch the re-runs here and shall now think of you every time I do x

  8. Ah - Fawlty Towers. One of the funniest TV comedies ever made. Our family favourite was the 'Basil the Rat' episode. I think my sister and brother and I can still recite most of the script.
I'm loving your blog.Thank you for introducing me to Fluevogs (and I'm pretty sure I first heard of Irregular Choice through you as well)
