Mondo Weekend Wrap-Up: Origami Thursday, Pants Friday, Kerchief Saturday and Chartreuse Sunday

Whoa! Miss me? It's been a hectic week, leading into a hectic month. My blog posting may slow down somewhat, but never fear! I'm not going anywhere.
Bam! In your face, Thursday! I loved how all these colours looked together.

Linking up to "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style. Get your butts over there!

The dress is a little too lightweight for this ensemble, but eh, whatever, we're still having lovely warm summer weather. I last wore it here in June (I prefer that outfit) with cowboy boots.
This is the second wear of this magenta shirt here in August when I was plowed into by a cyclist.
Such a dramatic back! The pleating is so cool.

The stuff:
I love these awesome shoes! I last wore them here in July with cherry and polka dots.

Pointy bling:
The necklace is aluminum - it weighs nothing. It rattles nicely.

Dress (Orgami Dress, Bodybag by Jude), shirt (Banana Republic, consignment), shoes (Garden of Enjoyment Rita, Fluevog), obi (Smoking Lily, consignment), necklace (the Bay), earrings (local), lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring (Wendy Brandes).

After work on Thursday, we had a "Women of" dinner for women in my company. I work in IT, and most of the 200+ people in my office are men. It's nice to get away from all the testosterone once in a while.

Before we met up, I popped into the WIN store downtown and found a couple of cool things.
I'm a complete sucker for velvets and other rich textures. This is a gorgeous soft purple cotton velvet, lined with coloured satin (vines and flowers).

Real mother-of-pearl buttons:
I love the pretty carving on them. The jacket is by Dex and was $17.50.

Added to my collection of obis with a nice dark green one for $3.00.
The lighter side is silk and has a slight shine to it; the darker side is cotton.

I love the golden yellow, medium grey and black strip of this scarf. It has a chevron texture in the weave.
It's by Oscar de la Renta, is likely from the 80s and is silk. it was $6.50.

Friday felt like not-a-dress day - time for pants!
I adore these red polka dot pants - they're so fun to wear.

The blouse is semi-sheer (I have a black camisole on under it), and was last seen here in March layered under a dress.
The pants were last seen here in June with my sweet vintage leather and crochet top.
I rarely wear pants, but I like these ones.

It threatened to rain on Friday, so I broke out my bowler for the season.
The lovely black and white coats makes another appearance. The weather cleared up and it was sunny by the end of the day.

The stuff:
These shoes are just getting softer and softer. I am very tempted by the purple ones. I last wore these here in August with my barnyard skirt.

Blouse (Lida Baday, consignment), pants (Tara Jarmon, consignment), shoes (Half Truth Tanya, Fluevog), earrings (local).

Officer Vizzini is usually on the prowl in the mornings, watching for falling acorns and supervising the squirrels, but I caught him in an odd nap spot on Friday morning.
"You're wearing that?"
Yes, and I wore it out for dinner with L after work. We had Thai food - yum! We walked home and played board games all evening.

Saturday was gorgeous but windy - not good for Ultimate! This dress was also not a good choice - it kept blowing up and threatening to expose my pantaloons!
I loved the dress overall, though - it was very light and swooshy.

Ulty was a hard game - I had a couple of collisions, including a foot-stomp from a 200-lb man in cleats. Yow! My ankle was pretty sore all evening.
I last wore this dress here (2nd outfit) in August for Zeb's divorce party.
We had lunch at the diner afterwards, then ran a few errands in town. I had a much-needed nap and then we played "Arkham Horror" for the evening and hung out with Vizzini.

The stuff:
My favourite go-to sandal of the summer! Love these Borns! I last wore them here (2nd outfit, for Ulty again) a whole week ago.

Simple bling:
I'm loving the one-earring trend! So easy.

Dress (Nine West, consignment), shoes (Born, consignment), necklace (thrifted), earrings (both local).

My ankle felt a lot better today, so I risked walking to town to get groceries.
My "don't mess with me" face.
I'm having fun picking some of my lesser-worn clothes and getting another wear out of them. Having a deadline on how long I wear my seasonal clothes helps me decide what I'm going to keep and what's getting passed along. If I don't make the effort to wear it, why have it?

When I look at this jacket I think, "Meh", but when I wear it, I love it. The colour is just spectacular, isn't it? And there I am in velvet again. I last wore this jacket here (2nd outfit) in April with a light tropical skirt.
Although twice a season isn't a lot, I am keeping the jacket.

I'm just wearing a black camisole (with sequins at the top) underneath. Nothing to see here - I never took the jacket off.
I love the puffy shape of this skirt. It would only be better if it had pockets! I last wore it here in April  - also not worn that often this season, but still a keeper.

The stuff:
I managed to walk around for about 4 hours this afternoon, as well as walking home, with only a tiny blister on one toe, but these shoes are in the buh-bye pile. I last wore them here a couple of weeks ago with ruffly leopard.

We've got a man down!
I'm sure that could be replaced, but since the suede bows on these are also Vizzini-ravaged, I'm just going to let them go. I thrifted them and didn't pay much - they have served me well. Black kitten heels are pretty easy to find.

Jacket (Alison Wonderland, consignment), skirt (Bedo, thrifted), shoes (Town Shoes, thrifted), earrings (local).

After getting groceries, I meandered down to Hemp & Co. to spend a $25.00 gift card. I'm not really into knits too much but I liked the neckline and the colour of this dress.
Hemp & Co. only carries ethically-sourced clothing, so it's a good place for me to shop new. I bought slippers there last year.

They're moving locations, so they were having a big sale. The dress was regular $79.00, marked down to $59.00 with an extra 20% off. With all the taxes, I only ended up paying $27.00 for it after the gift card. Nice.
Organic cotton and made in the US. Love it.

I meandered through the Bastion Square public market, and found these pretty blush and sparkle earrings.
They're nice and light. They were $10.00.

From there, I wandered over to Flavour Upstairs. This was the first item I found, as I walked in, and was the only item I bought.
It's a gorgeous thick red skirt with pockets, in the "new" midi length.

Of course, it's not new. I was thrilled to see the tags. Wool and cashmere, handmade in Ireland.
"Made in the Republic of Ireland by Jimmy Hourihan of Dublin." According to their website (here), they've been around for 50 years. They seem to only make capes and coats now, but I guess they were into skirts in the 80s (this is definitely 80s - very high waist, pre-Great Size Change size 12).

And only $17.99 - that feels like a score. This skirt is incredibly soft. It came with a crappy vinyl belt, which I let the store keep - I'm sure it was not original.

A nice stroll through town, over to the Patch. I liked the feel of this denim blazer - it's a very dark green and blue plaid.
It doesn't look like much on the hanger, but it's got a nice peplum at the waist and the back is a little longer than the front. Very equestrian-feeling.

It's by Ralph Lauren, and was $24.95.
I found the original tag in the pocket (it has 4 real pockets), from Macy's. The original price was $179.00, then marked down to $89.50. As L pointed out, "That means no one liked it." Lucky for me!

My wonderful mother-in-law sent me a very generous cheque for my birthday (which is coming in a couple of weeks!). I had seen this ring in Leka last week and drooled over it.
It's sterling silver, with a band of copper, silver and brass, which all spin. Yes, it's my third spinner ring.

But I have really thin fingers, so it's rare to find one that fits my pinky!
Happy early Birthday to me!

  2. I really love the colour combinations in Thursday's outfit, so beautiful! :)

I did giggle a little when I read about your Saturday dress getting caught in the wind - I'm noticing that more with my dresses lately. I don't know if it's because it's been a bit windy around here or because with baby I don't always have a hand free to catch a flying hem, but some of my dresses are feeling a bit more flighty than usual!

  3. Happy Early Birthday to you Sheila! I could comment on each photo, but I really just want to say that I think you are super cool! I mean...red polka dot pants and a bowler hat...you couldn't be any more cool. It really doesn't surprise me that you have a cat that can talk! xoxo

  5. I can tell when your life gets busy by a corresponding decrease in your online presence. Same thing happens to me.

When I visit here, I'm accustomed to seeing interesting and innovative clothes, but you really hit the bell with those red polka-dot pants. They're fantastic!

  6. Love that ring, good choice!
The tartan blazer and red wool skirt are really great finds. Love the colourful floaty dress (I always seem to wear floaty things when it's windy too!) and those Tara Jarmon pants are fabulous on you. xxx

  10. I have a lot so say on this post, I don't even know where to begin…
The polka dot trousers are fabulous, they fit you so well -
The scarf dress is another big hit - that's a dress I'd love to own (hint, hint ;)
I am too fan of velvety and textured garments, so you can imagine I am all for your new purple velvet jacket .
And i see now that the ODLR scarf was a new adquisition.

  11. Ok, here goes....that ring is Spectacular, and if I ran into you on the street I'd be inclined to try and swipe it; I love the chartreuse jacket with the black and white print skirt - definitely a great outfit; I have a Jimmy Hourihan of Dublin Cape, and I had no idea "he" made regular clothing!

  12. You look so great in all these pieces, but your figure is off the charts in those adorable polka dot pants! You should wear them (or ones like them) every day. EVERY day. Lovely Vizinni, lovely you.
Glad to see you ... sorry I haven't been by in a while. Been here but quietly. Enjoy your fall!
