Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Shoe-Fer Two-Fer; Brunch Blues and Fluevog Gift Cards Spent!

Welcome back, my friends! I took two hours of vacation on Friday and left work early - L took the day off, so envious! Why? We had an Event to go to!

But first, work outfit.
This outfit was driven by the new shoes...which I planned to wear for my evening outfit as well. It's a Two-Fer, or a Shoe-Fer, if you want to be a bit silly (which I do).

  • Blouse - Lady Manhattan, vintage 80s, first worn here in September 2022 with chevrons
  • Dress - Hallhuber, consignment; last seen here in December 2021 for a holiday season shop
  • Shoes - Yuko Imanishi; purchased here for $88.00
  • Coat (below) - Mallia, consignment; last worn here earlier this month

Second wearing of this golden blouse.
It didn't look right in the shoulders, but I did love the colour.

I can't believe I haven't worn this dress in over a year! So many clothes, so little time!
I played with the peachy-gold tones in the woven pattern, which also has bits of brown in it.

You may admire how perfectly that pattern lines up on the front and back.
I adore sheath dresses like this.

Especially when they have pockets!
Those are massive pockets.

Outerwear.
I thought it was going to be a lot colder than it was. I still liked the extra length since I was going all "Legs McGee" underneath.

Accoutrements:
First wearing of this new-to-me scarf purchased yesterday. It is such a fine silk, I could barely feel it, but it kept my neck warm.

  • Scarf - vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $1.97
  • Gloves - thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
If these shoes had turned out to be horrible for my 3/4 work day, then I would have had the option of swapping to different shoes for the evening. Fortunately, they were awesome, and I happily wore them for another four hours.

Groovy bling:
I love these bold shapes.

  • Necklace - Monet, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - vintage fair
  • Wooden ring - Dots
  • Smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neuman, Sweden, vintage mall

As I was getting ready, I noticed someone lurking.
"Hee hee, she has no idea I'm here!"

Oh, Vizzini, you goofy boy.
"You're smarter than I thought you were."

Out you go, my fuzzy buddy. I don't want you stuck in there while we're out at the Art Gallery!

We - along with pals Greg/Rosanna, Caro/Ronnie, Casey, Linda, Joanne along with more folks we knew and were acquainted with - planned to get our Mad Men era dress-up on for a free Opening Celebration evening of cocktails and shmoozing and wandering the AG, checking out their latest exhibit, Heart of the House: Art & the West Coast Modern Home.
L and I did more late 50s - my outfit is certainly that era, and L wore a dark brown/burgundy suit with a sexy lady tie. Fabulous!

This is why I needed to take two hours off work. Gotta get ready for the 5pm start!
Funnily enough, the last time I wore this dress was 12 years ago, for another mid-century modern exhibit at the AG, an Urbanite event that Elaine and I went to!

  • Dress/jacket combo - vintage 60s, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in July 2011 for a mid-century modern exhibit at the Art Gallery
  • Shoes - Yuko Imanishi; worn during the day
  • Fur stole - Foster's Furriers of Victoria, vintage 60s, vintage fair; last seen here (2nd outfit) in February 2021 for a Zoom Happy Hour

That was a much more interesting exhibit, in my opinion - this one had some good paintings, but I really wanted MORE stuff to look at. I love mid-century modern (L hates it) and enjoy seeing it in my friends' homes.
Anyway, we had a lovely time, and Casey, Caro and Ron, plus L and I went for dinner at Moxie's afterwards.

All glammed up! I wore the above jacket to and from the event, but took it off and just wore the fur stole while I wandered around, checked out the exhibits and chatted.
"You're going out? You just got home!"

We arrived home around 9pm to a very disgruntled little kitty.

Isn't the dress amazing? I was thrilled to see a lot of folks (of all ages) wearing vintage, and I got a lot of love for this dress.
It was not super-comfortable to wear, which is why it's been 12 years since I last wore it! However, it's so beautiful, I can't bear to part with it.

Outerwear.
Thank goodness for fur! My mink stole kept me warm outside, as did my long cashmere-lined leather gloves.

I had many comments on the fur - all positive! Mostly folks who had their own vintage furs who were leery of wearing them.
I passed on my assurances that people are not so cranky about vintage furs anymore, as it's all sustainable when you buy them second-hand and vintage. There's no need to buy new fur - when I was in WIN the other day, there were four of these stoles, all $25.00 each.

Accoutrements
My little copper purse is a favourite. I bought it ages ago before our local Plum boutique closed.

  • Purse - Plum, early 00s
  • Fascinator - Tierre Joline, thrifted
  • Brooch (on fascinator) - Karen's
  • Gloves - Club Monaco, consignment

The stuff:
I was really happy with these shoes - there's no way I would have been able to walk to the Gallery, then to the restaurant, and then home in heels.

Copper bling:
My copper was a hit - it had tons of admirers.

  • Brooch - thrifted
  • Enamel leaf brooch - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 50s, vintage fair
  • Shiny copper rings - Glee
  • Big copper ring - consignment
  • Hinged round cuff - Renoir, vintage 50s, vintage fair
  • Cuff - Renoir, vintage 50s, Grandma J's
  • Earrings - vintage 50s, Grandma J's

I wore one brooch (the big one) on my dress and the other (the enameled one) on my jacket.

L and I were home early enough to hang out and play some board games (and give a yowly kitty some treats!), but we both crashed fairly early.

Up and at 'em, it's Saturday morning, time for brunch.
I wore my new-to-me Arola skirt right away - it was a crisp cold day.

  • Sweater - Nor, thrifted; last worn here in October 2022 with pinks at Elk Lake with Mom
  • Skirt - Arola, vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $9.95
  • Boots - 1883 Luchesse, thrifted; last seen here in November 2022 with my Bodybag plaid dress
  • Leather jacket (below) - Elizabeth and James, consignment; last worn here last week

I was only un-coated while at the Ruby enjoying my omelette (Mexi chicken, mushrooms and avocado), toast and fruit.
Both L and I had the same idea today: let's go check out the Fluevog sale (extra 15% off!), so we popped in after brunch. We both had unspent gift cards from Christmas.

I often find that trying their shoes on is an eye-opener. Styles that I think I will like don't fit or are too high...and other styles fit perfectly and look amazing, but only when I try them on.
This wonderful new-to-me Arola skirt was lovely to wear - very warm and swooshy.

I also popped into Flavour Upstairs briefly but nothing really rang my bell.
And we went to Mango's to buy L a new pair of jeans, his annual pair.

Ready to shop!
We also got groceries on the way home.

All done up and staying warm!
I got a lot of comments on my jacket - it is a spectacular colour.

Accoutrements:
I think this might be the first time I've worn these gloves - they were thrifted, although I can't remember what I paid for them. Not much, I'm sure!

  • Gloves - Echo, thrifted
  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
These steel-blue-grey boots fill a hole in my shoe wardrobe.

Brutalist bling:
I like the mix of pieces.

  • Bracelet, cuff, necklace - all Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gifts from L
  • Earrings - vintage mall
  • Volcano ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Hematite ring - thrifted (I wear this to keep Mom's ring from sliding around)
  • Square ring - thrifted

Are you excited to see what I found at Fluevog? Both of these were "last pairs."
These are the Blaise Poser (link here - we can be twins! - all links 'cause I love), and their site says they are blue/orange/green, but that's more like a chartreuse yellow.

That blue matches the jacket I had on exactly.
I have a ton of orange and chartreuse in my spring/summer wardrobe, but almost nothing in my winter wardrobe that works with these.

I'll still try to get a wearing of them in before I tuck them away until April.
That's a very doable heel for me - I used to have these fuzzy purple Posers (last seen and Flashbacked here), but they were too big on me. These fit just right.
"Yes, you are, you're super cute. I said so." These were reduced from the original price of $399.00 to $203.99 - but they were FREE with my gift card! Thanks, Mom!

These black shoes were not a "last pair" - they were a mistake pair. They came in missing the tongues, so they marked them down from $429.00 to $169.99 as a final sale - and again, they were FREE with my gift cards (thanks, work VPs!). They are in the current sale and come in red as well as black (here), for $359.99.
I love the Swordfish toe bump and I have at least two other pairs of their shoes with that heel, and I know it's a good one for me.

This might come as a shock, but I don't have black heels. Boots, yes, flats, yes, but no black heels.
So pretty!

I can't wait to wear these!
That's a mix of patent leather and suede.

"Classy. Elevate your world."
Don't mind if I do!

L and I took it easy for the rest of the weekend, enjoying music, reading, board games and loads of playoff football.

And how was YOUR weekend? Tell me what's new!

  5. I'm loving Friday's groovy outfit, and the shoes are absolutely gorgeous, such a wonderful shade of brown.
You and L. look amazing in your 1950s Mad Men outfits, although I was amazed to read you last wore the dress and jacket a whopping 12 years ago! And aww, isn't that little copper purse gorgeous!
Lovely to see your new Arola skirt in action, and it looks absolutely perfect with your blue leather jacket.
Both pairs of Fluevogs you picked up are absolutely fabulous, but I'm totally smitten with those floral ones. Swoon! xxx

  6. I am loving the new Fluevogs - spectacular both pairs!

Your 1960s outfit was gorgeous and so was the fur stole you wore with it - it brought back memories of my childhood; that was the sort of thing women wore then to go out in the evening. My mum had a fox fur stole which we kids loved to stroke but were a bit scared of it as well! L also looked fabulous.

Loved your dress with the gold coloured blouse underneath and the shoes were wonderful. They reminded me very much of 1920s shoes only minus a heel. I also loved your vintage skirt outfit and the boots looked so comfortable but very stylish...
