Unexpected Legs

Another brief post - I've been at a work function tonight (speeches...so long...), and I have a lingering headache from my dental appointment still.
Still doing my "look professional" thing, making an outfit with this new-to-me top.

  • Top - Kut from the Kloth, consignment; purchased here for $12.50
  • Skirt - Club Monaco, thrifted; first worn here in August 2018 with neoprene
  • Booties - London; last seen here in November 2018 with plaid and olive
  • Coat (below) - Forever 21, thrifted; last worn here in December 2018

I'm starting to work my way through my not-yet-worn items in my fall/winter wardrobe, and I liked the idea of this tan pencil skirt with the sweatshirt look of the top.
The top doesn't have a content tag, but it's lined with what feels like t-shirt cotton. The black sparkly overlay is sheer on top of that.

The black darts are inserts of leather - the waistband is also banded in black leather.
I had this whole outfit on this morning, with regular ol' beige nylons, when I remembered these magnificent tights. As I'd chosen all gold accessories (to match the booties), it was a no-brainer. And so unexpected!

I felt very clever. Here's my Clever Face.
I matched my lipstick to the tights. Even more clever-er!

Outerwear - the Grape Ape coat for a touch of playfulness.
I walked home from the event in a freezing wind. Thank goodness this coat is warm.

  • Fur scarf - Danier Leather, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
Wonderful booties. The open sides help them not look too clunky.

Gold bling:
The sleeves of the top did not pull up as I'd expected, so the bracelets were basically a no-show. Everyone loved the long dangly earrings, though!

  • Earrings - vintage fair
  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Faux Gucci bracelet - gift from Mom & Dad, Italy, c. 1986

    1. Thanks, Mica! They jazzed up a slightly dull outfit, I think.

  2. Love those colourful tights too - gorgeous! Gosh, how do you manage to walk home in freezing temps in a skirt, tights and short boots? I am a total wimp when it comes to cold weather and need to seriously cover up from head to toe. Maybe it is because I am originally from a climate that is mostly always warm in South Africa, and I am still adapting to winters on the Black Sea Coast of Bulgaria :) Lise

    1. Thanks, Lise! Oh, I never walk in my "good" shoes - I change into socks + Doc Martens for walking. It's not that cold here, either - I am just whining. Yikes, that's a big change for you, though!

  3. The tights are a very clever choice and the Grape Ape coat is fab.
I bought a fluffy jacket on the weekend at a market. I know I've got too many coats but it's purple and was only $5, so I couldn't resist! X

  7. I like it that you match the lips with the tights, and the accessories with the booties. I do that too, it has to be in balance.

    1. I love having little matching parts all over (I did it in today's outfit too, as you will see in about 6 hours). Thank you, Nancy, my fellow balance queen!

  8. Those tights are utterly fabulous, Sheila! They certainly are the attention grabbers here. They even outdo the equally fabulous grape ape! Love those booties too! And of course you had to wear matching lipstick! xxx

  11. The leather darts on that skirt give it such a great fit and detail.
You totally surprised me with the tights! I have to admit I like them and can only wonder how I would style them. I am such a wimp with bold items.

    1. I know, that's what makes it hard to have both this one and the Valentino one - they are nearly the same colour! I love a bold item like this -it's a risk I'm willing to take.

  12. You are kicking it up a notch as you always do. Love the leather inserts, and that fabulous embroidered chiffon sweatshirt. Hope the headache goes away.. make sense that dental work can trigger it.
    Those tights ! Gorgeous!

  13. The sweatshirt and narrow skirt combo is one that I do often in the winter (with patterned tights). The shapes work great together, and those are some fab tights.
