Neoprene and Plaid

Ah, these last few days before the holidays are always fun in the office - people are feeling cheery and chatty, and they even give me gifts!
Dear Ally sent me a card (thank you!), my VPs gave me a goodly chunk of a Fluevog gift card (!!!), and a local hotel dropped off a box of Rogers Chocolates.

  • Jacket - Zara, consignment; last worn here in November 2022 with the same belt and boots
  • Top (not shown) - Tatum & Olivia, consignment; last seen here on a warm September Mom-Day
  • Skirt - Talbots, consignment; last worn here on a Mom-Day in March
  • Boots - Prepare 2.0 Tracker, Fluevog; last seen here in November with velour and stripes
  • Alpaca coat (below) - Mallia, consignment; last worn here in March

Unfortunately, the chocolates were all creams (ugh, gross), so I walked around the office and offered them to my colleagues.
It was also an excuse to show off my outfit - I waggled my shoulders at coworkers while on a Teams call.

They are rather dramatic - the shoulders, not my coworkers!
I paid $9.00 for this neoprene jacket, and this is its 3rd wearing - I've worn a pencil skirt with it every time (all different). This pencil skirt is woven vs. printed (a plus) but is getting ball-y (a minus).

I layered a floofy ruffled top underneath, but never unzipped the neckline.
Colleague Ngoc had dotty fishnet stockings on and I wished I'd worn fancy ones too - these are fleece-lined, though.

It was foggy all day today with visibility of only 3-ish blocks in any direction.
I love fog - I walked home smiling and enjoy the fuzz of twinkle lights and Christmas trees.

I adore this beautiful cashmere, baby alpaca and wool coat.
It has a brown herringbone pattern that doesn't show in pics.

Accoutrements:
I snagged L's scarf this morning - he wasn't using it!

  • Scarf - Roots, thrifted, gift to L from me
  • Gloves - Thinsulate, thrifted

I shop in thrift stores for presents - I find amazing things, often brand new with tags still on, or unworn. You should see all the good stuff I found this year!

The stuff:
After work, I came home and fed Vizzini and worked on this post. I hopped a bus back to town and joined my Book Club women (sans Mindy, missed you!) at Zambri's for our annual-ish holiday dinner (we met last year here).

Minimal bling:
Brooches and neoprene don't mix, and the jacket has ultra-long sleeves which don't scrunch up (neoprene wants to be flat) so no bracelets.

  • Belt - Gap, thrifted
  • Silver earrings - Brenda Schoenfeld, 1992, vintage mall
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower

Zambri's was fabulous, and we ate so much of their amazing food. So wonderful to connect with my lovely friends! I'll add pics once they've been shared.

  2. Unfortunately, the last days at my office are always hectic which makes for a distinct lack of Christmas spirit! I'm glad to read people are cheery at yours, and how wonderful to be given a Fluevog gift cards by your VP's. Makes up for the gross chocolates, I'm sure :-)
Your black and red outfit is very festive, and I'm loving those dramatic shoulders! And isn't that coat fantastic?
Your book club dinner sounds wonderful, please do share pictures! xxx

  3. Oh YES to your skirt, alas that it is balling a bit. Maybe go with the flow and let the balls become part of the skirt’s style. (Only partly kidding!) A wonderful outfit overall and, perhaps because it’s neoprene and already a bit different, I don’t mind those wild wacky shoulders!

I know you will enjoy the process of selecting a way to spend the generous Fluevog gift card. :) It’s special to have VPs who know you well enough and think highly of you to know exactly what to gift you at the holidays. Yippee!

You are my model for how to appreciate and enjoy life with the family you choose. ❤️ The Book Club kinda sorta annual dinner sounds lovingly satisfying. Mmm. :)

    Cheers, Laurie

  4. I love the matte black tights to contrast the busyness of the tweed and the funkiness of the boots, it also matches the top ( with those shoulders to die for!). Gorgeous silhouette of shoulders and pencil skirt, you look fabulous. I cannot wait to see what Fluevog delights you bring home with your gift card gift xx
