Mom-Day at the Periodontist in Grape Ape

Today was a day I always dread - my trip to the periodontist. Ugh, must wear my best armour, but first, my best therapy.
"Bothering me again..."

He did come visit me while I was outfit planning and getting ready to go out.
I always dress for my appointments in comfy clothes that are also fun, for my tech, Michelle, who is awesome and so gentle as she freezes up my whole mouth.

  • Sweater - Scotch & Soda, consignment; last worn here in February for a Mom-Day
  • Skirt - H&M, consignment; last seen here in October 2022 for yet another Mom-Day
  • Boots - Doc Martens, thrifted; last worn here in June for the Day of Indolence
  • Coat (below) - H&M, thrifted; last seen here in November

I'm layered up with a cami under the sweater, thick tights, wee shorts and a vintage slip. Oh, and socks too.
I like the cropped oversized shape of the sweater and its wide neck. It's wool and snuggly warm.

It goes well with a belt, so I often belt it.
This skirt has been with me for many years, since 2017, and it's survived the Giveaway Pile more than once.

But it's got pockets, it goes great with black, white and grey, the pattern is fantastic and it's a swooshy full skirt with some attitude.
Finally, it's a keeper.

I chose the Grape Ape as my main armour.
I had QUITE a few looks as I sat in the waiting room in this ensemble.

How I looked walking there. I decided to see how I'd do with some exertion (about 2 kilometers) and it was fine.
Although I am really, really tired now...I need a nap...

Accoutrements:
Soothing and soft velvets.

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Thinsulate, thrifted

The stuff:
My floral Docs were great for the walk - they have sport inserts in them for extra support.

Mixed bling:
A mix of delicate and hard, floral and metal.

  • Belt - gift from Ruth
  • Lace cuff - handmade, Nashville
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Anneke & Lars ring - vintage mall
  • Leather cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Necklace - Stella & Dot, thrifted
  • Silver earrings - Egyptian, Royal BC Museum Gift Shop, Mom's: given to me here

Mom generously picked me up from my perio appointment (I require a ride home since I am loopy on a happy pill that I take for my extreme anxiety from a lot of dental trauma in my youth) and came over for a visit and a cup of tea. Vizzini poked around to say hello, then commenced to lurk.

"Where is he?"
"I'm totally hiding."

He was in food mode.
"I'll stop lurking when you feed me."

Thank you so much for keeping me company in my wooziness, Mom!
I love you!

And I love you too, Vizzini, even when you're a pain in the arse.
"No one can resist this face."

And now, my friends, I'm off to start the weekend! We have some big plans afoot (that had been shifted during out bouts with Covid) and I'm excited for the weekend! Please do check in on Sunday for tales of adventure!

  1. I saw that skirt in a thrift shop. I love how you have styled it here. Vizzini is such a handsome little guy. Lise

  2. Viz is a wiz at posing! That last photo of your post says it all. Also love the photo of you and your Mom, regardless of how woozy you feel!

Now for that skirt, oh my, so glad it made it to “keeper” status because it looks fabulous and pairs so comfortably with all the accessories, shoes included. This is totally an outfit I would wear. :)

Here’s to the weekend and delayed gratification!
    Cheers, Laurie

  3. That's a beautiful skirt and ensemble and Vizzini quite rightly gets a starring role!

  4. Having experienced quite a bit of dental trauma myself, I totally get your anxiety and your need for a happy pill. My dentist would never oblige, I'm sure ...
Wearing armour is a must, though, and surely wearing something fabulous goes a long way to make things better. That skirt is fabulous and oh, hello Grape Ape!
Hurray for your Mom and Vizzini keeping you company!
Have a fantastic weekend, Sheila, you definitely deserve it! xxx

  5. Glad mum was there for you. Dentists make me shudder! My mouth is small and doesn't open wide so the whole thing is torturous for me and xrays are really difficult! Armour is a great idea!x

  6. Ooh, sparkles! Pockets! And a hockey jersey! Your estimate of its age makes sense: Reebock made NHL jerseys from 2007-2017 so it had to be within that period. And for that size to fit you (gladly it does) it must be a kids' one. Jerseys are expensive ($160US) so this is a steal.

I know you don't watch games until the playoffs but... the Devils played the Bruins last week -- and won! Exciting game that went to overtime. Boston's still a top team but lost two of its best players last offseason and is declining. NJ is a young team growing into greatness.
