I'm Blue - I Believe I Will Dye

I'm indulging in a little bit of word-play for today's post title, since I've had that late 90s Eiffel65 song "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" stuck in my head all day - it's a real earworm, so click here if you dare, muahahaha!
Officially, they're saying "I'm blue (da ba dee)" in the lyrics, but I've heard various theories, including "I believe I will die." And I dyed my hair blue! Die/dye! Get it? [you may groan now]

  • Wool/silk top - Iris Setlakwe, thrifted; last worn here in April with a purple pencil skirt
  • Skirt - Linda Lundstrom, vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen here in April with a menagerie
  • Shoes - Amante, vintage, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in February 2022 for Greg's birthday
  • Suede coat (below) - Tadmor, vintage 70s, vintage mall; last seen here in April

The hair will fade out to an icy blue in due course. It's fresh dye!
It did inspire me to put together an outfit with blue - and this soft teal silk velvet skirt is so lovely. I always look forward to swooshing around in it.

The top is a mix of silk sleeves (semi-sheer) and a wool body, including a band at the neck.
I layered a cami under it.

The hem of the skirt is uneven, as the cut is on the bias.
I'm a pro at wrangling all that fabric - it tends to live in a ball in my lap when I'm at my desk.

Outerwear - more blue (da ba dee)...
I built the outfit around the striped Halston scarf - you can barely see it, but I knew it was there! When I hung my coat up I draped the scarf over it so I could see it and admire it from afar.

Incognito - it was nearly dark by the time I walked home. Darned time change...but at least the Stair Pic is back (for now).
I confess, I actually hiked up the elasticated waist of this skirt over my boobs and then buttoned up my coat - it raised the hem to mid-calf and kept me from dragging the velvet on the sidewalks. Lots of wet leaves!

Accoutrements:
I'm sure I'll wear this scarf with the skirt again - that light aqua blue matches perfectly.

  • Silk scarf - Halston, vintage 90s, thrifted; purchased here for $5.00
  • Toque - thrifted
  • Wool gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
I cast a critical eye on these shoes today - they've served me well over the years. I have worn them 17 times since I bought them for $10.00 back in October 2016 (here, plus a Flashback from December 2020 here). There's nothing wrong with them, and they are still in really good shape for such an old shoe (likely early 00s or late 90s). But they don't feel much like me anymore. They're still in my closet, but I'm thinking about them.

Silver bling:
Revisiting some favourites. I like playing with the chains hanging from the necklace.

  • Hinged cuff - Swarovski, consignment, gift from L
  • Crystal heart cuff - Juicy Couture, consignment
  • Silver earrings - consignment
  • Anneke & Lars silver ring - vintage mall
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Silver/kyanite ring - consignment

My view from the stairs this morning - fog!
I could barely see the Castle. Is it even there?

  1. Sheila your hair is fab. As a natural silver haired gal myself I am curious. Is this perm dye or temp dye? Do you have root regrowth lines when you use your usual purple temporary colour? Lise

    1. Lise, go for it - most permanent dyes won't stick very long to white/silver hair, so you'll end up with more of a tint (watch my hair in the next 2 weeks as it fades). This is commercial drug-store dye - both the blue and my purple are Feria Smoky Pastels (in blue and purple, duh - the pink is not as good), and they are permanent. I also recommend Pulp Riot (I have used the lavender to give my hair an all-over boost, but it's non-permanent and doesn't last long).

I don't get roots, because by the time my hair grows out the colour has faded to a near match of my natural silver/salt & pepper colouring. It's an awesome win for the silver-hairs! :) Go for it!

  2. Those shoes! They speak to me of a shoe that wants showing off. ;) The temporary ‘erasing’ of the castle is like for us when the fog ‘erases’ Long Island, which is visible across the Sound on a clear day.

And oh my, I know that song and it has worked it’s way into my head on several occasions, hence I dared not visit the link! Another one that gets me going is Viva la Vida by Coldplay. If I am somewhere where the song is playing my body responds immediately by dancing!

    Cheers, Laurie

  4. Gah! Earworm indeed. I read your post before I went out this morning and its been rattling around my head all day!
Loving the blues - your hair looks amazing and i can just imagine you scooping up all that skirt fabric and balling it up on your lap when you're at work. That vintage blue coat is a favourite of mine and that sweet little Winter White hat really suits you.
That is foggy, I can't make out the castle at all. xxx

  5. Wow, loving the blue hair; so shiny too! Oh and the skirt is gorgeous and luxurious.
Don't get me started on earworms. They are responsible for many a night's lack of sleep!

  6. I knew the song, but not the artist, so I wasn't sure it was what I thought it was. So, before I knew it, I'd clicked your link and ... thanks for the earworm :-)
Loving the blue hair, and the matching outfit! That skirt is absolutely amazing, and so is the coat - yet another one of my favourites of yours. I'd be so distracted by the chains on that necklace and would be playing it all the time! xxx

  7. Linda Lundström is still around, for anyone who followed her brand. Here's her latest venture.

  8. I love the blue hair and of course that velvet maxi skirt, it's just stunning! :) I keep thinking about dying my hair blue. I didn't do it last time I donated it so I was so firm that I was going to do it this time around and it's taking years for my hair to get long enough to donate, grrr. But I will at some point! I just can't do it before donating as you can't donate hair that's been dyed.

Thank you for joining the Weekday Wear Link Up :)
