Bond Boots, Houndstooth and Swirly Green (and More Poncho!)

Tuesday is a dressier day in the office, with a bunch of meetings in the big boardroom. I planned my outfit for maximum Showing Off My Boots.
They do make a bit of a statement, don't they?

  • Sweater - Adrienne Vittadini, vintage 80s, thrifted, Seattle; purchased here for $10.00
  • Skirt - Kate Spade, thrifted; last seen here in March with wavy boots and Adidas
  • Boots - Bond Girl, Fluevog; purchased here for $599.00 (less a bunch of gift cards - I only paid $103 myself)
  • Leather jacket (below) - Danier Leather, thrifted; last worn here in September, for unboxing Mom's book
  • Welsh poncho (below) - vintage, thrifted; last seen here in September

This ensemble features four new and new-to-me items, with these lovely Bond Girl boots being the star.
I'm thrilled to report they were amazing to wear, not a rub or poke anywhere. My coworkers were impressed - I even did a Buffy kick for Carol.

This swirly green sweater is another new-to-me item - I have it tucked in here so that the buckles on the skirt are visible.
I had a vintage camisole on under the sweater, which is a nice thin knit.

A classic pattern-mixing formula: one big organic pattern, plus one small more geometric pattern, and with one colour in common.
Black and white houndstooth, yes, please. This is a woven wool blend textile and it's lined in thick black satin. It's a true wrap skirt, but I never have issues with it opening up on me.

Outerwear. We're in layering season.
The beret is the third new-to-me item - I love the vivid blue, and as you can see, it matches my blue leather jacket and Mom's vintage scarf.

But you know what this outfit needs?
More poncho! Voila! I adore the fat blue fringe and the gold dome snaps.

This is a Welsh wool gem of a poncho, double-woven and thick.
I'm still boggled it was only $15.00 in the thrift shop - I've worn it 10+ times in two years.

Accoutrements:
I used a purse today instead of my backpack. Backpacks and ponchos are not friends.

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
  • Scarf - Vera, vintage, Mom's
  • Beret - Parkhurst; purchased here for $26.00
  • Gloves - Danier Leather

The stuff:
I carried my boots to work in a tote bag to protect them - I wasn't going to risk mud or wet leaves. My babies! Seriously, I LOVE these boots.

Green, black and silver bling:
And there's the fourth and final new-to-me piece of my outfit - the salamander brooch that dear Cat gave me. I wore it on the poncho.

  • Green cuff - consignment
  • Steel cuff - consignment
  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment
  • Silver/obsidian ring - vintage mall, gift from L
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Concrete/silver ring - Raul Caballero, Oui Jewelry
  • Salamander brooch - vintage 80s, gift from Cat; given here

  4. Well I’ll be, the boots are far better on than I expected, given the color. Guess I shouldn’t be surprised because this is what you know how to do - style outfits! Still, once again you have made me a convert! Your entire outfit, including outer wear, is FABULOUS! I fully appreciate your pattern mixing and each piece is perfect. Plus another very important part is that the outfit looks comfortable and cozy. Also quite liking your earrings and the green cuff.

Every so often you model an outfit and one of my thoughts is “yes, please, I’ll take the entire ensemble, thank you.” Given my first impression of those boots, it makes me chuckle that this is one of those outfits. :)

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I didn't mean to be anonymous! I also want to add that I followed the link to your post on the Seattle trip, and it was fun to see your shopping experiences there! I have spent a ton of time in Seattle for the last three decades; first my little brother moved there for grad school and stayed; then my sister moved to Tacoma; then my son moved to Seattle. My brother and his husband lived for years in West Seattle, in walking distance to California St. and that was such a fantastic area to be in! We've also loved hanging out in Ballard. I have to confess that I wish my son had not ended up living way up north in suburban Lynnwood. Such a long drive to anything interesting from there! But of course the time with him and his dear wife, is precious; soon to become even more special, with the arrival of their baby girl in a few months. So I'll be visiting up there more than I have been, and will have to find the occasional time to visit my old favorite places in Seattle proper.
