That bit of poetry was whirling in my head all day, perhaps inspired by this new-to-me black dress?
The cut of this dress reminds me of another black dress I once owned, back in the late 80s. It had the same high neck, short sleeves, and fitted cut as this one - only it had massive shoulder pads and was very short. I wore it with giant pouffy permed hair (my natural brown) pulled up into a fat puffy mohawk for New Year's Eve maybe 1987 or '88, then gave it to former LA Express coworker, Mandy, around 1994.
I also remember a similar Club Monaco dress from the mid-90s, and one from Plum in the early 00s. This dress is closest in feel to the Club Monaco one.
I absolutely loved this dress - it was warm, comfortable, and it's flattering. It's also a good backdrop for accessories. It's a Jammy Dress! My colleague Ngoc admired it and agreed that all dresses should have neck zips, not back zips!
I ran some errands in the afternoon like this - jacket done up, though. Leather Weather is almost over.
Incognito. I still like my shades when there's light - and it's been getting gloomier.
The slit at the front of the dress showed off the boots when I walked. I layered a vintage slip under it which you can just see peeking out at the top of the slit.

- Leather gloves - Lord & Taylor, thrifted
- Scarf - Eagle's Wing Scarf, MMA, thrifted, Seattle; purchased here for $8.00
The stuff:
Gorgeous brocade boots! They are lined in plush and very comfortable to walk in. There's a zip all the way to the sole on the inside, so they're also easy to put on (I hate fighting a boot).

Love this dress. Such a great cut. Lise
ReplyDeleteMmm, sitting here wrapped in my fleece robe, I deeply appreciate a cozy comfy long jammy dress. :) Yours accentuates your shape and looks lovely. Agreed with Lise, a great cut. Not only should dresses have front zips, but bras should have front closures!

DeleteThis blue necklace is definitely the finishing touch of this dress. It fits very well~
ReplyDeleteAnd the boots, wow, there are many embroidery details, very gorgeous~

Very chic!
ReplyDeleteI remember having something similar in the 1980s - absolutely massive shoulder pads that made my waist look tiny and I used to call my "pulling dress" as it always made me the centre of attention.
ReplyDeleteThose boots are fabulous and I loved the Egyptian scarf. It's so dark here that we've had the lights on since we got home from swimming at 9.30am this morning! xxx
That black dress looks absolutely amazing on you! I did have a similar dress - with the ubiquitous shoulder pads - in the 80s, but mine was granite grey, not black. I remember wearing it with a wide assymetrical red leather belt!
ReplyDeleteBoth the scarf and boots are fabulous, as is that turquoise necklace!
It was a lights on all day kind of day, with Storm CiarĂ n raging here! xxx
Those brocade boots are a dream. Love the black dress too.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing in this.
That dress looks like it was made for you and I hope this one is a keeper in your wardrobe! I really like the accessories with it - the scarf and jacket are so perfect together and the boots are amazing as always :)
ReplyDeleteThis is terrific. I am glad you held back and only added that fab necklace and the boots. The dress makes you look like a million dollars.
