Murder Mystery Dress With Pops of Red

A hot day today, but here I am in long sleeves and wearing nylons.
I was perfectly comfy in the AC of the office, but phew, it was hot on the walk home.

  • Dress - Scotch & Soda by Maison Scotch, consignment; first seen here in April
  • Shoes - Marc; last worn here in June with a poppy pirate look

I am a big fan of this dress - the shape and non-full pleating on the bottom make me look long and lean.
Why "Murder Mystery Dress"? Scroll down here to see the pics of the panels! It's like a game of Clue!

I felt awesome in it.
There's not a lot you can do with it for styling, just change up the belt and shoes.

It's not quite a fit-and-flare.
More of a fit-and-slightly-angled.

Masked up.
Matchy pops of red! Who loves matchy? I do, I do!

Incognito.
Covering up from the evil sun that wants to burn me.

Accoutrements.
I liked the blast of red from my swanky vintage Halston scarf.

  • Scarf - vintage 70s, Halston, thrifted
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
I try to stay off my feet when I wear these. Even with the platform, that's high.

Red bling:
I loved how well the belt worked with this - it stayed put and was really comfortable. $1.95 well spent!

  • Belt - vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $1.95
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave, Granville Island
  • Silver/enamel ring - antique shop, Sidney
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

  1. That is a high heal. What fun to explore such prints that tell a story. Do you walk in the shoes? I don't see you as a tennies gal even for the commute.

  4. Me too, me too, I like matchy matchy! Always my longest decision making for an outfit is whether to match earrings and accessories or to pop them with contrasting colors. I usually go for matching. :)

As for the dress, quite sweet and the vertical black stripe on the back says tall and long to my eye. Is the material sufficient for warmth for a fall wearing with boots and warm tights?

And the belt, I knew you’d find an outfit with which it would shine!

  5. I really love this dress...you rock it with the shoes and belt, and how it hangs on you. But, don't you get distracted at work reading it? I know I would.

  6. I remember admiring the dress when you first bought it. Isn't that print just fabulous and fun. And as you and L. love playing board games, the Clue(do) theme couldn't be more perfect.
And red was the perfect choice of colour to wear accessorize it with too. That belt is utterly fantastic with it. Pff, hearing you on the leaving your airconditioned office. The heat really hits you, doesn't it? xxx

  10. I used to find those stretchy elastic belts with the fancy clasp in all the thrift stores but now they are hard to find (Vintage sellers caught on and are now charging ridiculous prices for them). They are great to accessorize dresses like this one - it looks great!
