Matchy Monday: Red Bookending Swirls

I had a hard time getting going this morning, and it didn't help that I had an 8:30am meeting. Ugh, who schedules things for that early?
So I fell upon one of my tried and true formulas for when I just can't think: bookends!

  • Top - Talbots, consignment; last worn here in May 2021 with a kisses skirt
  • Skirt - Nine West, thrifted; last seen here in January with tweed
  • Shoes - Marc; last worn here in June 2021 with leather flowers and a peplum
  • Coat (below) - Tadmor, vintage 60s, vintage mall; last seen here in April

Despite the teases of blue above the Castle this morning...
...the clear skies did not last - we actually have rain/wind warnings in effect, with some areas likely to get SNOW. In May. Sigh.

Hence the black tights! I also have a camisole under this fabulous lace-circles top.
This swirly suede skirt is quickly becoming a fast favourite.
This is a pretty basic outfit: top, skirt, shoes, and the top and shoes are in the same colour. Bookends!

Masked up - added another pattern.
Because why not?

Outerwear and incognito.
I was cold and the wind blew my hair into a twister on the way home.

Accoutrements:
First wearing of my NWT (new with tags) Halston scarf!

  • Silk scarf - Halston, vintage 90s, thrifted; purchased here for $14.95
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I didn't do much walking/standing today at work, so my feet are feeling fine from these heels. The platform really does make a difference.

Circular bling:
To match the circles and swirls in the outfit, of course.

  • Studded cuff - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Silver/enamel cuff - thrifted
  • Silver/enamel ring - antique store, Sidney
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Earrings - gift from Lise

  1. I'll need to remember the bookend style guide when I hear back eventually. First I need more shoes!

  2. An 8.30 meeting doesn't make for a relaxing start of the day. No wonder you had a hard time to get going! That, and the lack of sunshine I suppose. I do wish I could send you some of ours!
Loving the bookended outfit. Those shoes look awesome even if a bit high for me. I'm having to get rid of all my high heeled shoes as my feet no longer agree with them. The circles and swirls and circular bling are a joy to behold, and I do hope they helped in making your day go well! xxx

  3. We all have go-to solutions for fashion problems. Mine is tights. It warms my heart to see you wear them.

  4. Those bookends of red just warm my heart and I know they did the same for you! Agreed with you about 8:30 meetings. I am definitely a morning person yet the best time (for me :-)) for a morning meeting is 10:00, maybe 9:30. Gives everyone an opportunity to wake up and get in the groove before having to function in a meeting.

The color of your coat made me swoon. Even with having seen it before, this time it just popped, and that's a nice way to be wrapped for a changing type of a day!

  5. I think I would need lots of coffee that early, for a meeting. But your outfit is spot on. I love a book end look. You know me matchy matchy

  6. You are right! Who has meetings that early! I feel sick if I have to get up early! The outfit is lovely, though!

  7. I'm here to comment on two posts as there is some weird quirk where the Comment box doesn't show up unless someone has already commented! Annoying!
So firstly, the green and white striped outfit is rather magnificent- it is such a powerful statement and fits you to perfection! It looks super with the shirt and tie underneath and the Pattern contrast is very pleasing.
I really like your leather jacket! Sometimes, with all the cycling to work, I miss being able to wear more coat variety.

  8. Love this bookending tip, particularly when there are Red Shoes involved!, and love your lace circles top and cool skirt (such a beautiful texture and interesting design!).
    Rocking in Red, dear Sheila!

  9. I like the bookending and the swirls and circles work so well together! I really like the red with the black and white too, it's a beautiful colour on you!

  10. We experienced some powerful (though, mercifully, not enough to cause damage) wind here in mid-May as well and, a few days later, some of the heaviest rain I have ever witnessed in person anywhere in my life (and that is saying a fair bit given that I was born on the Coast and, later on, lived in Ireland for a couple of years :D).

This has definitely been a milder May for much of our province. Truthfully though, I really don't mind. I will almost always take cooler weather over scorching hot sun (I love the latter, too, it just tends to drain me faster than a bathtub due to my health).

Love your classic, chic and very beautiful red + black ensemble. You are so speaking my colour palette language here. :)

  11. I raised my eyebrows when I saw that heel. That's high I thought, but I hadn't spotted the platform. Nice outfit.
