Beene and Orange

Today's outfit features one of my best vintage designer finds ever: this gorgeous 1960s Geoffrey Beene suit.
I found it at a vintage fair for $40.00 for the entire suit - the vest-style jacket was $18.00 and the skirt was only $22.00. I was rightfully gobsmacked when I spotted the label inside!

  • Suit - Geoffrey Beene, vintage 60s, vintage fair; last seen here in September 2021 with pinks
  • Sweater - Bartolini, consignment; purchased here for $26.00
  • Boots - Clarks; last worn here in December 2021 with sequins and leopard
  • Leather trenchcoat - vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here in January

Working through my new-to-me purchases still - this lovely burnt orange wool sweater is the perfect layering piece for this suit.
I think the flap pockets on the top portion are real, but I'm not going to start picking at the seams in there.

The suit is just incredible quality - every time I wear it, I have a browse online to look for vintage Geoffrey Beene to see what mine's worth in the current market.
Not that I've found anything even remotely as awesome as this. There was a similar-era 3-piece suit on a high-end vintage site (link here, 'cause I love) that recently sold for nearly $600.00, though - how cool!

I wore a full vintage slip under all of this.
Sadly, some of the skirt lining is starting to shred due to age (likely 60+ years), but I'm very careful with it, and the slip ensures it's protected from further wear and tear.

Masked up:
It has fabulously deep pockets, hidden down the side seams; the one on my left is where the zipper is hidden (not even a visible seam for the zipper!).

Outerwear - it was slightly too chilly for this leather trenchcoat, but it matched so well.
I must be down to pennies per wear on this by now - I've had it for well over 10 years but I haven't always tracked my outerwear. I don't think I paid more than $50.00 for it.

Accoutrements:
It's been cold and clear for the last day or so.

  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
These boots are on their 34 wearing and are still going strong!

Brutalist bling:
I started off wanting to wear some of my amber jewelry with this, but that morphed into a Brutalist statement instead.

  • Necklace - vintage, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Cuff - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Pewter/gold bracelet - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • "Volcano" ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Chain ring - Taxco, Mexico, Charmaine's
  • Square ring - thrifted
  • Earrings - vintage mall
  • Eelskin belt - Yves Saint Laurent, vintage 80s, thrifted

My heavy jewelry was a comforting weight.

Stay warm as we launch into February, my friends!

  2. That suit is the stuff of dreams, and I'm swooning each time I see it. The burnt orange jumper and belt couldn't be better suited, and nor could your boots and leather trench. Your Brutalist bling suits the suit's pattern (ha!) perfectly! Just wow! xxx

  5. Wow, that is an extraordinary vintage outfit. I could easily see people paying $600 or more for it. In fact, it's a piece of history.

  6. The new to you orange sweater is perfect to wear under your fabulous suit. They just don't make them like that anymore, at least not unless you are paying couture prices.

    1. I loved how well it went. I know, you could not find something like this suit in a regular store anymore. That's kind of sad...

  8. Oh what's that sound off in the distance, you ask? It's just the noise stemming from my jaw hitting the ground over that magnificent bargain of a (chicly beautiful) 1960s suit. Complete and total score, my dear friend!

It looks tailor made for you and partners resplendently with that cozy orange sweater. This whole looks is earthy and autumnal, which only makes me adore it that much more.
