Mom-Day and Jab in Hawaiian

Happy Tuesday, my friends! Mom and I had planned an adventure, but instead we just hung out close to home, and in the late afternoon I had my second vaccine jab! What a day!

I wore this new-to-me vintage Hawaiian dress for the occasion of Mom-Day and my jab appointment.
It was a gorgeous sunny day, temps up to the low 20s. That's perfect summer weather, in my opinion!

  • Dress - Malia, vintage 70s, consignment; bought here a couple of weekends ago for $17.00
  • Shoes - Wonders, consignment; last seen here in June with toile tiers (and my interview with Lucy!)

Such a comfy dress!
I picked the shoes first, then decided what accessories I'd wear with it.
I tried a few belts - the dress is baggy around the waist - and liked this light metal link one.
I was pleased that there is enough "striding about" room in the skirt portion. Nothing ruins a skirt or dress for me more than not being able to move around - that's even more of a deal-breaker than lack of pockets.

Masked up - I wore my mask for my jab, of course.
I don't wear one outside unless there are a lot of people around.

Geared - hat and purse. I'm also sunblocked.
I love this summery look. A Hawaiian dress that doesn't have all the touristy motifs (palm trees, hibiscus flowers) means a more versatile dress.
I loved wearing this - it was very comfy and cool.

Accoutrements:
I'm not always all-colour-all-the-time, but when I do neutrals, they had better be interesting!

  • Purse - Street Level, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom
  • Hat - Heart's Content

The stuff:
These shoes are practically flats. Very easy to walk in.

Big silver bling:
And one wood, for contrast.

  • Belt - vintage fair
  • Steel cuff - thrifted
  • Hinged silver cuff - vintage, thrifted, Powell River
  • Silver earrings - Brenda Schoenfeld, 1992, vintage mall
  • Wooden ring - Dots
  • Shield ring - Nine West

Hey, Vizzini, we have a visitor coming over this afternoon.
"I hope they bring treats."

Mom has been teaching art (oil painting) to a very small group of kids over July and August every summer for the past 40+ years. When I was a kid, I took classes with her too. Now, instead of a dozen pupils, she only has 2 kids per morning, twice a week. Since Tuesdays are one of her class days, we planned an outing for afterwards. However, because of my vaccination appointment, we just had a visit this week.
"She came to see me. I know who is important here."

He nearly tripped her with his underfootery and then was right up on Mom's lap for his massage. Look at that face - he is in heaven!

We had a nice visit and then L drove me to get my jab. Woo!
We were there and back in less than an hour. Wow, this feels so good - what a weight off! L gets his jab in a week and a half - the one time it doesn't benefit to be younger!

And how was your day?

  1. Hip hip hooray for getting your second jab!

You and your Mom had a home adventure and Vizzini had his spa time; all is perfectly delightful, especially from where he sits. :)

Then there is your outfit! Truly you know how to wear long dresses. This dress looks so relaxing and comfortable, and I’ll bet it had the folks at the vaccination site smiling. I don’t have the confidence to wear a long print but I marvel with delight when you wear one. The accessories are spot on and your new hat gets another outing. It may be subtle but I like the color matching of the wooden ring and the purse. :)

    1. I feel so relieved, Laurie. Now, only 2 weeks and I'll be fully safe(ish).

It was nice to just sit and chat, and catch up in person. And of course, Vizzini gets his "mom time".

Aw, thank you, my dear! It was incredibly comfy to wear. I did get a few comments, which was nice. I think you should just go for it, Laurie! Maxis are so fun.

  2. So glad you've joined the two-jab club, as Vix would say :-)
You must have made quite an impression with your vintage Hawaiian maxi. I'm loving the silver bling - the belt in particular is very funky - and every time I see that round purse, I'm making a mental note to myself to rummage around for mine! How lovely to be able to spend the afternoon with your Mum. Vizzini is clearly devoted to her! xxx

    1. Yay, I'm in the club! I made a few people smile, Ann - I did stand out in the sea of beige and black. I love that belt, and the purse is solid.

It was lovely to spend that time with Mom. Vizzini knows a sucker when he sees one, ha ha! Mom gives good kitty massages.

  3. Congratulations on getting the second shot!

I am very, very partial to black and white patterns. I just love the geometic pattern in this dress. I totally agree that it makes the dress interesting and provides versatility.

Those are two lucky kids to have your mum as a teacher. Vizzini does look like he's found true love, lol.

    1. Thanks so much, Nana!

I love them too - and this one is so pretty. I wish it was lined up a bit better, but I'm not complaining.

They are - I love that she is spreading her talent and influencing young kids.

      Vizzini adores her. :)

  4. That's such good news you've got your second vaccine! :) Under 50s are still in this weird wait until we get more vaccines which is frustrating here, but maybe in 3 months they will have more supply and I can think about getting vaccinated!

I love your maxi dress and it's nice you got to spend time with your mum - hope you can do your planned adventure another day!

  5. Yeah, huray!! I thought I would have a happy feeling when I would be safe, a week ago, but the numbers here are rising and rising and it feels we are back to March 2020. That dress is gorgeous, the colors appeal a lot to me! Have a great day!

  6. You look fabulous in your vintage Hawaii maxi dress. The sandals are lovely and I like the straw accessories. I do agree with you on your definition of a perfect summer day. I don't like it when temperatures soar too high. It's great you and your mother were able to meet and catch up. Vizzini looks really happy in her lap.

We got our second jab too. We had some mild side-affects this time, but nothing dramatic.

He does - Mom's a total cat person!

  8. That is a great dress - I prefer a modern geometric print instead of a traditional Hawaiian floral. Glad to hear you got your second jab - I had mine at the end of June and felt like crap for a couple of days after, but it was totally worth it. That's so cool that your Mom teaches children's art classes. She is obviously one of Vizzini's favourite people.

    1. I do too, Shelley, it's so much more versatile than the flowery prints. I'm so relieved, even though I did feel crappy for several days. Worth it!

She's been doing this for so long, it's really impressive. Vizzini adores her.

  9. That's fantastic news regarding receiving your second shot, my dear friend! Way to go!!! Having gotten my first on June 16th, I've still got a few more weeks to go until jab #2. Needless to say, I'm all but counting down the days!

Love the breezy, balmy, super pretty look you rocked for your shot. Hawaiian/tropical floral prints are a fave of mine stretching back to childhood. IMO, they're amongst the happiest, most feel good patterns out there.
