Neon Orange Bookends

Just before I went to bed last night, I realized that I'd forgotten to put some outfits together for my work-week. Whoops! Fortunately, I have a stash of easy outfit options, but instead of another jammy dress, I leaned on the "bookend" formula.
Bookends = when your shoes match something else in your outfit, typically your top or jacket (or your hair, if you're so inclined!).

  • Blazer - Ted Baker, consignment; purchased here for $45.00
  • Blouse - Clover Canyon, thrifted; last seen here in August 2020 with my red leopard suit
  • Trousers - Lady Dutch, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in February with pink and jungle print (Flashback there too)
  • Shoes - Mellow Bossa Nova, Fluevog; last seen here with a black suit in May

I'd known since I bought the jacket that I'd be wearing it with the matchy shoes, at least for its first outing.
I had my olive green joggers set aside to wear with something else, but I'd looted that potential outfit for one of its elements (I often do that) and the pants were just sitting there beside this new-to-me neon orange jacket.
Well, hey, I like these colours together. Let's roll with it.

I just had to find a top to meld the olive and neon orange together. Enter, the accordion top.
This is a very useful pattern - it's grounded in black and white, with bits of red, orange and turquoise in it (I have a lot of those colours in my wardrobe). Do you see the accordions? They are digitally-manipulated images.

I definitely felt cool in this.
And the jacket looks way better done up than it does left hanging open, although I wore it undone all day. Don't care!

Masked up - I went with dark turquoise to match my accessories.
Including my turquoise glasses today.

  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
These shoes are incredibly comfy. I always match them to something else neon orange in my outfit.

Turquoise bling:
Since the hardware on the jacket is copper, I wore some of my vintage pieces.

  • Copper/enamel cuff - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage expo
  • Copper/enamel earrings - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, Grandma J's
  • Copper/turquoise ring - vintage, Grandma J's
  • Silver/turquoise ring - Glee
  • Brass cuff - Myka, consignment; purchased here for $16.00

The new-to-me brass cuff matched really well with the olive green joggers. And there we go - one very matchy outfit! Perfect for a Monday.

  2. The color orange is perfect for (what is here a very grey) Monday! Definitely a kick a** outfit! I appreciate your turquoise jewelry, especially paired with copper but just as vibrant with silver.

And I am still swooning over your Sundance dress. I did a search this morning, found the Sundance store site, and spent a chunk of time browsing. Enjoyed the look about, very much like that many of their clothing pieces have COLOR (hard for me to find tops and dresses locally that are colorful). It was a satisfying 10 vicarious minutes. ;)

Thank you so much! Oh, how cool - they have some amazing dresses on their site.

  6. I have to get used to putting together outfits for the week again, as I'm completely rubbish inventing one on the spot first thing in the morning. I have to say you did quite well, and bookending your outfit in neon orange was a brilliant idea. I love the olive and orange together, I never would have thought to combine these colours! Your copper bling is amazing too! A fabulous outfit to kickstart the week! xxx P.S. Keeping my fingers crossed for your second jab today!

    1. I don't often do outfits in the morning, Ann (even this one was right before bedtime), as I need to spend that time and practice my self-care in my closet.

Thank you so much! I loved these colours together. The jab went well. :)

  11. Huge fan of bookending here, too. I especially love taking the classic route of hat and/or handbag and shoes, but am always up for other forms of bookending, too, as I am a perpetual lover of well coordinated ensembles.
