Sunflower Brollies and Pops of Black

So much for our early summer temps from last week! We are back to rain and cooler days again.
I'd better wear umbrellas, just in case!

  • Cashmere t-shirt - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here in September 2019 with Gaultier sailor pants
  • Skirt - SP, Lazy Susan's; last worn here in April 2019 with black and yellow
  • Shoes - Half Truth Veda, Fluevog; last seen here in April for our Men in Black silliness
  • Leather jacket (below) - Danier Leather; last worn here in March

I love the pattern of this sunflower brolly skirt - it just makes me happy.
It's quite a long skirt, so I have to be careful of the proportions.

This top is 100% cashmere and is so soft.
It's thin enough to tuck in without being bulky.
 Pockets make me happy too.

I needed outerwear this morning.
The only thing better than yellow?
More yellow!

The stuff:
Most people add a pop of colour to their (often all-black) outfits. Me, I add pops of black to my colourful ensembles! These shoes have been so awesome, but they are getting quite worn out. John Fluevog, please make me some more black flats/low heels, please.

Gold and black bling:
I liked how the black raffia on the necklace echoed the black edges of the brollies.

  • Necklace - Aldo

  2. I adore your yellows and orange today. That skirt is lovely on you. I know what you mean about the length.... I have almost the replica skirt but with huge painterly roses instead of umbrellas. It can be tricky to style. You've nailed it, lady!
I'm smiling at your "pop of black" idea. It's like your clothes sometimes call for a little sobriety!
Sorry your sunny weather didn't hold out. We're enjoying bright sunny days in Ireland at the moment but the nights are still frosty. Down to minus 2!

    1. Thanks so much, Juliana! Bright colours really help me lift my mood. This is such a tricky length - it always needs a bit of a heel or I look super-short. Yes, exactly! Sometimes I want to tone it down a bit!

And...spring! Sun is back! I'm glad you are getting some brighter days, at least!

  3. Seriously in love with the cheerful, sunny, flat out gorgeous colour palette of punchy yellows and coral here. It suits these spring-into-early summer weather days as perfectly as sweet treats like lemonade and fresh peaches.

  5. As your previous commenter pointed out, you match your blog background beautifully, Sheila!
The print on your skirt is fantastic and I love black accessories with colourful outfits, too - they add a certian something and stop things looking too girly, if that makes sense.
Sorry your gorgeous weather has reverted back to cold & gloom, after four days of the same we're set for some lovely weather again, it makes such a difference! xxx

    1. It's like I planned it, Vix (I didn't). Thank you - I do like how black can punk-ify an outfit and keep it from being overly frou-frou. Totally makes sense!

Ah, you know, it's spring: it's totally nice again! The brighter weather feels so much more optimistic!

  6. It seems as if our weather can't make up its mind either. It was really mild for most of last week, but temperatures dropped at the beginning of this week. I was even tempted to go in search of one of my Winter coats! Your cheerful, zingy outfits really makes my heart sing, especially as it includes one of my favourite skirts of yours, the one with the sunflower brollies! I'm loving the cashmere top as well, and of course nothing beats a yellow leather jacket to add some instant cheer. As for your necklace: what an amazing piece! xxx

  7. Love the cheerful mix of colors! What a great umbrella skirt and cool yellow jacket. Hope your weather warms up soon. It's been warm here, but for some reason all the hummingbirds except for one left. He probably likes having all the juice to himself. Awesome necklace!!

  12. What a fabulous styling and a great colour combo. Yellow is such a positive colour. God knows we need a bit of sunshine in our lives. I just love that white and yellow skirt. Such a pretty and unique pattern- a mix of sunflowers and umbrellas?

    1. Thank you, Ivana! I know, yellow just makes me happy. When I'm feeling down, I know I need to get some yellow out!

The pattern is sunflower umbrellas, so umbrellas that look like sunflowers - these do exist, I've seen them!

  13. Love it. And great styling Sheila. Not only does the black raffia on the necklace echoe the black edges of the brollies, the black of the shoes ties everything together as well. AND... the shape of the necklace and the shape of the umbrellas... clever little minx.
Never in a million years would I have come up with the colour of that jumper with this skirt and it is fantastic. Gosh you can teach me a thing or two.

  14. Nice Spring colours in this outfit, although I was surprised to see you wore black shoes with it, given I know you have orange and yellow ones in your closet. Our weather is all over the place - we had snow last weekend, this week has been chilly with rain but it's supposed to warm up tomorrow, fingers crossed.

    1. My orange and yellow Big Presence Fluevogs got very damaged with colour transfer when they were in storage over the winter. :( I need to try repairing them, but as the finish is wax, it has to be CRAYONS. Yikes. I'm a little nervous about it. I also just gave up on another pair of yellow Fluevogs (the Disco Dutch ones) as they are too high, and also had some colour bleeding. AND my other orange Fluevogs were too chunky and neon with this look. So...black!

I heard about all that crazy weather! I hope it gets nice for you soon!
