Twirly Brick and Velvet

Ah, Thursday, practically the weekend!
A classic fall palette for today's outfit, built around the twirly skirt.

  • Leather jacket - Danier Couture, consignment; last worn here in April over colour-blocking
  • Velvet top - Beechers Brook, thrifted; last seen here in December 2018 in professional armour
  • Skirt - Club Monaco, thrifted; purchased here for $17.99
  • Shoes - Chie Mihara, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in January with stripes and leopard

When I bought this lovely skirt, I struggled with what colour to call it. It's not quite burgundy and not quite brown. Let's call it brick.
It was so swooshy to wear - the fabric is fairly thin, so it doesn't add too much bulk, even with the pleats from the waist. When I moved, it moved.

I had a lot of compliments on this overall outfit at work, and much cooing over this fabulous leather jacket.
I've had it for 6 years, and I'm still not tired of it. It's butter-soft, made in Canada. I've definitely gotten my $70's worth out of it.

I wish I'd taken a picture of the outfit without the jacket - I was hot-flashing all day and taking it off and putting it on again, and taking it off...etc. You get the idea.
The little velvet sleeveless embroidered top is a sentimental piece for me - I worked in the store (Fairweather) where it was sold back in 1999-2000, and owned the black/grey version. It buttons up the back - the buttons tend to pop open, which tested my flexibility today.

Check it out, the skirt has a slit! Ooh!
It billowed marvelously when I was walking. I found a safety pin inside when I was steaming it last night - someone had tried to pin the lining together as it is much more sparse around the slit. You can sort of see how sheer the fabric is over my thigh. Scandalous!

Done up and ready for the weather. The jacket is a snug fit - it has two small pockets in the lining, good for making me forget whatever I put in them.
A little bit of faux fur on my scarf and gloves for a classy look. I have a large collection of wool gloves (and this one scarf) by Parkhurst - they are all made in Canada, and I buy them locally when I need a new colour or style. This duo was purchased nearly 8 years ago when I lost the glove of my previous brown faux fur set.

  • Scarf/gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
I've been having shoe challenges lately, with foot pain, and was worried that these shoes would be too high for me, but they are so perfectly balanced that they were fine for a day in the office. Aren't they pretty? I love the sparkly copper finish on the leather.

Copper bling:
My Grandma J's set, given to me in 1985-86. I used to stop in and visit her on my way home from university, and she sometimes showed me her jewelry. I love that she personally gave these to me, and I have never stopped wearing them for all these years.

  • Cuff/necklace/earrings - Renoir, vintage 60s, Grandma J's
  • Edgar Allen Poe cuff - Jezebel Charms, gift from L

And now, my friends, I shall leave you for the weekend with a picture of a sleeping cat.
"Go away, Woman."
I'll be back on Sunday with the Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up. Thanks so much for reading.

  4. Whit-woo! Loving that cheeky thigh flash! Those shoes are gorgeous, I'm glad they were comfy, too - my super high heel days are well and truly over.
Love your Grandma's copper jewellery and how snuggly Vizzini looks there. Our boys have fallen out with us as we've just laid a gravel driveway. You know how much cats hate change!
Have a fab weekend, Sheila. See you on the other side! xxx

    1. Ha! I always try to show off features like that. I'm surprised at how comfy the shoes were - most of my heels are leaving my closet.

Vizzini has been spurning us in favour of warm blankets. Ooh, I bet your boys are pissed! They do hate change, don't they?

      Thanks, Vix, rock on!

  5. I'm loving the rich and dramatic Autumn colours of your outfit, and surely nothing beats a butter soft leather jacket! But the showstopper here is your grandma J's jewellery set, which is absolutely stunning! Those shoes are pretty fabulous too, but I don't think I'd be able to walk in such a high heel anymore. I've just been doing my shoe swap-over and have put most of my heels in the giveaway pile :-( Wishing you a fabulous weekend, whatever you are up to xxx

    1. Aren't the colours pretty? They remind me of the trees this time of year, just before they turn. I treasure this jewelry set.

The shoes are not as high as they look - they're about 2" at the most with the platform. Happy weekend to you, Ann!
