Excuse me, Business Lady coming through! One of my coworkers told me I looked very "business-y" in today's outfit.
I have conditioned my colleagues to be used to my wacky outfits. Any deviation, and they notice. - Blazer - Helmut Lang, thrifted; last worn here in February with leopard and acid yellow cords
- Blouse - Renuar, thrifted; last seen here in September under a pink mohair sweater
- Skirt - Club Monaco, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in November 2018 for a weekend shop
- Shoes - Wonders Ayers, Fluevog; last seen here in January with khaki and leopard
- Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here on Thursday
I've been mucking about in my closet lately, trying to make outfits with new-to-me items. Sometimes my styling sessions result in an outfit with NO new things, as happened here.
All pieces I love, all working in harmony.
The blazer is a magnificent piece, real Helmut Lang, beautifully cut and draped (it's a fine knit). I undid the cuffs by two buttons and flipped them back to show off my flouncy blouse cuffs.
Yar, a little bit pirate-y, matey, but that's how I roll.
I had a plethora of pockets: two in the blazer.
I alternated with wearing the jacket buttoned (when walking around), and unbuttoned (while working at my desk).
I also have two pockets in the skirt.
I'd put this skirt in the giveaway pile when I did my closet swap-over, and then immediately had regrets. Nope, keeping this one. It's a wonderful woven brocade in gold with touches of olive green.
Outerwear - they are promising sun all week!
But I'm not taking any chances. My trusty trenchcoat will protect me.
- Velvet scarf - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage, thrifted
- Wool gloves - Parkhurst
The stuff:
These shoes are so comfy - that's a lovely heel height, and I love the double ankle straps.
Olive bling:
The necklace is about 10 years old now.
- Necklace - Plum
- Earrings - thrifted
- Jade/brass ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
- Feather ring - Fossil, thrifted
- Bronze ring (not shown, forgot to take it off) - P. Sarpaneva, vintage expo
Glad that the gorgeous skirt was rescued from the giveaway pile.
ReplyDeleteMe too! What was I thinking?
DeleteOh no I can t handle this! Again that amazing trenchcoat!!!
ReplyDeleteHa! Don't you see tons of these in the second-hand shops over there, Nancy? I see one like this nearly every time I shop.
DeleteI love that line about you conditioning your colleagues to be used to your fab outfits. So true.
ReplyDeleteYour trench is so gorgeous, I’m glad to see it on your blog again. X
I've done such a good job of it that they rarely comment on my outfits now!
DeleteThank you! I'm happy to have it out again.
This is a beautiful styling. I really like all the pieces on their own and even more worn together. That white shirt is beautifully romantic, the blazer is wonderfully chic and the golden olive skirt is simply gorgeous. I also really like your shoes and the vintage trench. Such a great combo! Here we've been having the most wonderful weather which suits me perfectly. The weather forecasts promises more sun. Still, it is always good to wear a trench or a light coat...just in case. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Ivana! The shirt is a vintage cream colour, with lace inserts. I am enjoying the neutral palette of fall right now. I'm jealous of your weather - it's mostly "white" here (overcast).
DeleteI'm glad you kept that skirt, it's beautiful! :) I like the blazer with it too!
ReplyDeleteMe too, Mica! I can't believe how rash I was, throwing it in the giveaway! Silly me.
DeleteLovely - it's the jacket that screams 'business woman' - I love it! Glad you rescued the skirt; the colours are just beautiful in it.
ReplyDeletexxx
Yes, it totally is, but I tend to get the same reaction whenever I wear a jacket. Thank you, I'm glad I reconsidered too.
DeleteI do like olive and rust together!
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief that rescued that glorious skirt before it found a new home, it's a fab office look, businesslike without looking deadly dull and corporate. xxx
Me too, Vix! I know, I'm just shaking my head over that. I must have been in a fugue state or something. Thank you so much, my dear! I could never be dull.
DeleteWhatever were you thinking putting that fabulous skirt in the giveaway pile! I'm so glad you rescued it so that we get to see it again. Honestly, I personally do not know any business woman who dresses as fabulous as you do. Loving that awesome leather trench, and the olive D&G scarf. Shoes with a double ankle strap are the most comfortable ever! xxx
ReplyDeleteI know, Ann! I blame menopausal brain fog. Ha, I'm sure there are a few! I knew you'd appreciate the scarf (it's really soft).
DeleteI love a business look! Blazers are my fav--- I'm about to bust mine out since the weather is right for them. Honestly, pockets are the best.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Becky! You can't go wrong with a good blazer. And there are never too many pockets!
DeleteLove this look it is ultra chic. Fall dressing is the best, blazers and rich colour palettes. I find summer to be very casual, but fall is when I have my most pulled together looks and bring in accessories and texture. You look lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Dar - I love fall too, it's my favourite season for getting dressed. Aw, thanks.
DeleteCuffs like that deserve to be revealed. Everyone knows pirates are cool anyway.
ReplyDeleteTotally, that's what I say too!
DeleteOohh... the skirt is so pretty. I have a very similar one but it doesn't look as good on me. Wonder why? (Not really wondering...)
ReplyDeleteTry styling it similarly! You have way better legs than me, Ally!
DeleteI join the choir!, glad that you keep the golden skirt, love particularly its pleats and shape and it even has pockets!
ReplyDeleteLovely ensemble and fab shoes and accessories (as usual!!)
besos
I know, why did I ever pull it out? Thank you, hon!
DeleteHow sage of you to take time to work through your closet finding new outfits. I need to take time to do that. (Time sadly lacking of late, ho hum!)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this combo looks businessy and chic which is a coup x
If I don't take that time for myself, I end up feeling blah. It's a mental health exercise for me. I hope you find some time for yourself, Anna!
DeleteThank you!
That skirt definitely deserves to take up some real estate in your closet. Great "fancy business" outfit.
ReplyDeleteI agree, and cannot fathom what I was thinking when I removed it. Thanks, Shelley!
DeleteI want to touch the screen and feel the softness if that D&G velvety scarf - you certainly mean business in this look, no question about it!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely cotton/silk velvet. Thanks, Lorena!
