Matching Stripes and a Wee Break

One of our clients today marveled at my top/skirt combo. "How did you ever find matching stripes?"
Answer, I didn't! It just happened to work out that way! I've had the skirt for years, and just bought the top a couple of weeks ago.

  • Blazer - Emporio Armani, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in April with harem pants
  • Blouse - Cabi, consignment; purchased here for $16.98
  • Skirt - Dries Van Noten, consignment, San Francisco; last seen here in May with regret-me-not shoes
  • Shoes - Chie Mihara; last worn here in August with loads of fringe

The blouse is rust, with blobs of orange, grey, mustard yellow and navy blue. The stripes on the collar are actually grosgrain ribbon, and they are mustard and deep green.
The skirt - aka the Circus Skirt - has stripes of blue, dark grey, lemon yellow and white. None of the colours are an exact match, but they totally go.

I wore the blazer buttoned like so for most of the day.
Yeah, I'm all "profesh" here! Had to impress the new hires at work.

I love this fabulously cut blazer. Such quality!
It's almost the exact shade of my hair now too, a silvery grey.

I had a hair cut after work; just a good trim, a bit of length off that was the old dead stuff.
I took my jacket off a few times - I like this look too. The blouse is quite sheer, so I have a vintage camisole on under it.

I did the front tuck only, letting the longer hem in back cover the low waistband of the skirt.
I came up with the combo just by holding the blouse up to my skirts. With a lot of outfits, I know in my head what will work together, but sometimes I need to see things physically side by side before I get that spark.

The stuff:
Late summer light, turning everything a pink-y colour. Will I get one more wear out of these shoes before they get packed away for fall? I hope so!

Gold bling:
The top cuff is done with me - it's quite worn. Into the giveaway pile it goes!

  • Cuff - vintage fair
  • Wood ring - thrifted
  • Bracelet - Butler Fifth Avenue Collection, vintage, consignment
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Ear-balls - Dior, consignment

My friends, I am taking some time off now. But, please, don't worry, I will return. I just need a bit of a break, and now is a good time.

Stay chill and I'll see you in about a week. Thank you so much for coming by!

    1. It really is wonderful, Ann! It could be a very difficult blouse in most people's wardrobes, I think. The break is nearly over, but I'm ready to go back to "real life" now.

  13. I would have never thought to put these two pieces together, but there you go, you are a style queen when it comes to unlikely pairings! I'm really liking the longer, natural colour hair on you. Your outfits are always so colourful that it provides a nice counterpoint.
