Orange Pops and the Picnic Princess

Hello, my friends, here we are, nearly at the weekend! And we've lucked out: it's been positively summery all week.
Time to break out a summer look. L said this top reminded him of a picnic.

  • Top - Etcetera, thrifted; purchased here last weekend for $14.99
  • Skirt - Angeleye, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here (2nd outfit) in July 2018 on our summer strip to Powell River
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last worn here with a jumpsuit in April
  • Leather coat (below) - Danier Leather, consignment; last seen here in April

This was my view from the stairs this morning.
The Castle on the far hill, the Gary Oaks unfurling their leaves, and a seagull guarding his missus nesting on the neighbours' roof.

Another busy day today - I was cold in the office today, but it was so hot outside (26 degrees!) that I didn't mind.
Love this top - such a flattering cut! I like that the checkered colour is a deep burgundy-purple shade.

The top back, hidden by my hair is a wide V - the shoulders have those nice little bra strings to hold my straps in place.
This high-low skirt is so lovely. There is an embedded checkered weave in it, as well as the sheer/solid strips (you can see that here, from when I first bought it).

I felt like a princess in all this flaring and swooshing. I'm the Picnic Princess!
And obviously I'm up to something mischievous! Such a smirk.

Someone needed a lot of lovin' this morning.
"Your hair smells tasty."

Might have been Vizzini, might have been me...

Outerwear - wildly inappropriate in everything by the style and colour. Way too hot - I wore it over my shoulders at one point.
"Can I help you?"

I spy a kitty!

The stuff:
When planning my outfit last night, I had originally looked at silver accessories (much like yesterday's stuff), then looked at pearls...and I was still struggling with which shoes to wear. And then I thought: I should just forget trying to match or let the purple in the top be the dominant colour.

What about orange?? It really pops off purple.

Orange bling:
I loved this - this felt really inspired, and I had a ton of compliments on it at work. Everyone loves the jello shooter necklace!

  • Necklace - Banana Republic, consignment
  • Cuff/ring - vintage 60s, Italian, vintage mall
  • Earrings - thrifted

One more cuddle for the road:
"If you insist."

Thank you so much for stopping by! I'll be back on Sunday with the Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up and tales of adventure. Have a fabulous weekend!

    1. Agreed! It would be nice, but not as interesting without the orange.

  5. Orange and purple are a fabulous pair, so you couldn't have chosen your accessories any better! They really make your outfit jump off the screen. Lovely, swooshy skirt too! It seems Summer has arrived at yours - while we're having the most horrible all-day rainy weather - and what better outfit to herald the Summer season? Have a most fabulous weekend, whatever you're up to, Sheila! xxx

  8. Love that top - it looks great on you. In the eighties I had the best orange pointed toe flats that I wore with turquoise skinny ankle length pants. My husband still comments on those orange shoes today (33 years later)! I rarely do colour anymore but am always inspired by your fresh and vibrant combinations. They seems in sync with your personality.

  10. I love the orange with this! Such a good last minute decision. And I love the title picnic princess! I need to try be a bit more creative with my outfits, it's like a superhero name when you come up with something fun like this!

    1. I was so pleased that I went with yellow. Giving myself a title makes the outfit feel less serious and more playful - and keeps me from taking myself too seriously. Thank you, Mica!

  11. Wow, what a great day to drop by for my latest catch up! I'm so happy that you decided to add that wonderful vibrant orange as your complimentary colour - it's so darned summery! And yes, the jacket might have been wrong temperature-wise, but heck right in every other way. Ta-dah!

  12. You look very summery! I hope it's still warm out there in June when I'm there because we've had a rainy, cold Spring so far.

  14. Gingham does bring to mind picnics, doesn't it? I like the top.

I never used to consider gingham until 1 or 2 years ago. I've yet to score the perfect gingham dress. X
