Weekend Wrap-Up: Visible Blues, Pink Dresses and Shopping with Jodi

What a lovely weekend I've had! Let's start with Friday's outfit.
I wore this all day at work, then in the evening to our friends Chris and Alison's place to play board games with another couple (Cat and Ross).

  • Blouse - Le Chateau, thrifted; purchased here last weekend for $2.00
  • Skirt - Mario Serano, thrifted; last worn here in February with green and leather
  • Shoes - Miista; last seen here (3rd outfit) last weekend with white and houndstooth

This was a nice, comfy and casual outfit (this is casual in my world, just roll with it).
I really liked the blouse and am looking forward to styling it different ways.

Outerwear? Outer-there! (That never gets old).
Styled for being outside in the highly-changeable Victoria weather. Rain, sun, wind, rinse, repeat. Welcome to winter/spring.

The stuff:
I want these shoes to last forever!

Blue bling:
Simple pieces.

  • Earrings - local
  • Lapis lazuli ring and Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

L and I both slept in a little on Saturday morning, then went to Floyd's for brunch. Yum, I could eat brunch there every day.
As usual, at least one person thought my colourful tights were tattoos. Yeah...

  • Cashmere sweater - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here a couple of weeks ago with fiesta!
  • Skirt - Talbots, consignment; last seen here last week with the origami shirt
  • Boots - Prepare Guide, Fluevogs; last worn here (4th outfit) with mustard and grey

I was all snuggly warm in this lovely mix of cashmere (the sweater) and mohair (the skirt) and wool (the boots).
After brunch, we killed some time wandering around town, then went to see "Deadpool" - ha! Loved it!
Same jacket because it was hanging there on the hall stand from the night before.

The stuff:
Completely adore these boots. Such heels!

Familiar bling:
And the rings were still sitting out, so why not wear them again?

  • Earrings - gift from Lise
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

L insisted on buying this crazy dress for me.
The name seemed vaguely familiar. Where have I heard of Kenzo before? Ah, I think it was in some style magazine many years ago. I did recognize the tiger face and this dress is Quality with a capital Q. It's really thick cotton with a fleece backing (sweatshirt), the seams are gorgeous and it's made in Portugal. The embroidery is top quality, even on the inside. Oh, and the dress has pockets!
I did some research when I got home and then got all excited when I saw that this dress originally retailed for around $400 - L paid $24.95. The sizing is ridiculous on it, by the way - it's a size L and is really snug. Anyway, I love it, and it's really cool, and it felt like a score!

After a quiet evening with my honey, today I walked to town to get groceries.
It was sunny. Briefly.

  • Sweater - Vero Moda, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) a few weeks ago for another weekend outing
  • Skirt - Strawberry Jill, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) for another grocery shop
  • Boots - 1883 Lucchesse, consignment; last seen here recently with the blues

The tights have been trashed, and I'm done with this skirt for the remainder of the capsule. I'll sub a different one in.
I like the sweater, though. It's always good to have a few casual pieces to mix it up, y'know?

What most people saw me in:
Note that I didn't wear a hat. Note also that it's sunny there.

The stuff:
Note how soaking wet my boots are there. It poured all afternoon, and I got drenched walking home. It's still really stormy out!

I met up with the fabulous and lovely Jodi from Day2DayWear - we met through our mutual friend, Ally (of Shybiker fame!) at the Blogger Meet-up last summer and found out we lived in the same city. We kept trying to make plans to go shopping, and we finally made it out! We did the WIN Warehouse store, where Jodi found a few things, including a fantastic gingham trenchcoat that I was salivating over, and then we went to Value Village, where we both scored on dresses. Bizarrely, not only did we both find pink dresses (hers is a gorgeous Calvin Klein sheath dress), but this does make my second pink dress of the weekend!
The dark spots are water from rain getting in my shopping bag.
This is a thin t-shirt material dress, so the weight of it doesn't give it a good shape on the hanger - it is seamed all over in very flattering ways - again, Quality with a capital Q. The skirt is very wide and flowy (and slightly uneven). The back is quite open, so I'll have to wear something under it or get creative with my bra situation.

And I was shocked to see: it's Kenzo again!
Unlike my first pink dress, this one has a label, "Kenzo Paris" - however, this dress was made in France and has European sizing. It feels authentic to me, but for $12.99 I'm pretty happy with it - it will be wonderful in the summer!

I wasn't 100% in love with this skirt, but I bought it anyway, dammit! Sheer with shiny silver polka dots? Sure, why not?
It's Forever 21, which I'm not terribly enamoured with in general, but this worked for me.
Especially for $8.99. I think we have a sub-in skirt for the capsule right here, yup.

Jodi and I shared a drink, then ventured out into what had become a mighty squall of a day. I'm sure she got soaked on her bike ride home!

And now, I'm off to warm up! Happy weekend.

Linking up with Patti's "Visible Monday" over at Not Dead Yet Style, as well as Anne's "52 pick-me-up" blue theme at SpyGirl! Thank you, ladies, for hosting these fun link-ups!

  1. I recognised that Kenzo dress right away - that design was huge not that long ago, great find! :)

Looking forward to seeing how you wear that cute polka dot skirt too!

What do you do with all the designer pieces you score when you get bored of them? Do you resell them or do you do like you do with your other clothes and pass them on not worrying about the price?

  3. You and Jodi are among my favorite people so when you two hit it off in Vancouver, I was thrilled! I'm so happy you made the effort to connect, particularly since you live in the same part of the world. I can see how you two have complementary skills that would benefit each other. Nice shopping haul!

  4. Sheila - I think blue is definitely your colour. The blue blouse and jumper looked lovely on you. All the outfits are great and I loved the psychedelic, groovy tights. Also, the amazing yellow leather jacket!

2 pink Kenzo dresses in one week - what are the chances of that, I wonder?

The black skirt with the silver spots looks fab - I look forward to seeing how you style it.

    Have a good week!

  8. First off, sooo digging the pairing of the sunny yellow jacket with the various shades of blue! Next, I've seen a number of pieces of Kenzo at the vintage show and at consignment stores in New York, so am familiar with the brand - excellent score on the fleecy dress!! I would wear that with a little denim jacket, tights and boots.

  9. So many lovely things here. But my favourite has to be that sheer spotty skirt. I can't wait to see what you pair this up with. Two Kenzo dresses in one post - I love the first one as its so cute, and even has pockets!

  10. Kenzo is my favourite brand. Remember the blue long jacket/dress with the polka dots that Sylvia wore in Vancouver? That was Kenzo. I have the same one. Size 38 in French sizes is pretty small my dear. Very good purchases. I love your first two outfits. They show how you can be stylish in skirts and not high heels. I love and adore your grey boots too.
