The Last of the 90s Leather

A late night tonight, as I hosted a "Women of X" (where X is the tech company I work for) meet & greet. There are so few women in IT - it's nice for us to gather and get to know each other.
Yes, I wore a leather dress.

  • Blouse - Max & Co., thrifted; first worn here with the blues
  • Dress - Danier Leather, vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen here under a cardi
  • Boots - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last worn here with matching arms and legs

I hear the 90s are now retro and having "a moment" in fashion. Check out my "vintage" 90s leather slip dress. I often refer to this as my "Buffy dress" (I'm a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan). Slip dresses (especially in leather) are awesome for layering things under an over them. No one says you have to wear them like a slip, all bare! Yikes!

I haven't decided if the dress will be packed away for winter or if I'll keep it out for another season. Either way, it's had a few wears this season, so I'm good with that. Time to give some other stuff in my closet some love.
Tights for coverage, and boots because this is the last week of boots! I'll be packing away my fall/winter wardrobe this weekend, and hauling out my spring/summer collection. There is some overlap, but I like the rest from some of my favourites. It only makes me appreciate them all the more.

Anyway, if you want to get a glimpse of my closet (I have a small custom-built walk-in closet) and my process of the swap-over, you will want to swing on by on Sunday evening. I always post lots of pictures.

The stuff:
One of the guys at work was making fun of my fuzzy wool boots. "What, you mean my Demented Elf Boots?" said I (that's what L calls them). No one can make fun of my clothes better than me!

Bold bling:
I'm not sure how I feel about the cuff. It dug into my wrist a bit.

  • Cuff - vintage fair, first wear, $3.00
  • Earrings - local
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

And now...time to chill.

  2. Oh Shiela, how exciting! The new season closet changeover event is about to be shown! I've never seen this before, but you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be sitting ringside to see it this time. And hey, if you think you may be tiring of that old leather slip dress (in fact, don't you think it's a tad big on you now?) well hey, just pop in in a jiffy bag and send it over here x

    1. It's not *that* exciting, Anna, but I do enjoy it. It takes all day (Vizzini helps). Hands off the dress, you!

    1. I think my Fulvia ring is down to about 50 cents per wear now - I wear it a LOT.

  4. I never think of layering beneath dresses but, as you show, it's often a smart choice. And makes outfits more interesting. Love the patterned tights and boots. Kudos for supporting women in IT!

  5. Oooh, I love the closet change-over time! So few other women allow us into their closets, and we are all voyeurs, naturally. Fabulous you in your leather dress and freshly purple hair. xox

  6. Oh, yes, I love seeing your closet change-over. Is that weird? And Vizzini's help.
I have a hard time accepting that '90s is now vintage. ???!!! And it will only get worse. Soon I'll start saying, when I was young...
Love the leather dress. IT definitely needs more women. I'm glad you're making it such a welcoming place to work.

    1. It's the voyeur thing, lol! Everyone who comes to my house gets to peek in my closet!

I know, what is up with that? I had a hard time with 80s being vintage and now 90s? Zoiks!

I'm trying! We have women in the "usual" positions: admin, HR, management, but not a lot of actual programmers, etc. Go, STEM!

  8. I'm looking forward to your closet switch-over! You're so organised and it works so well for you! :)

Despite it being firmly in autumn, the summer temperatures are continuing here which is a good thing in a way as when we were house hunting last year I packed up a lot of clothes to make the house more 'spacious' for selling, and put it into storage at my in-laws. I was not as organised as you were about it and now I don't know where half my wardrobe is, haha! I'm missing more than I thought I packed away....

  9. There really are so few women in tech, it's true. I have noticed the ranks growing a wee bit in recent years though, which is awesome (Tony works in tech and so I've been heavily immersed from the sidelines in the industry for a dozen years now).

Fantastic outfit! I really like that cool patterned blouse.

Have an awesome first weekend of April!
