Pending my February re-cap (which I will be doing on Saturday), here is my new March capsule wardrobe!
23 clothing items...and 7 pairs of shoes:
And without further ado (because it's late and the wine calls), here's Outfit #1:
I'll be incorporating a lot of Smoking Lily pieces from their sale last month, but I actually decided to do a cohesive colour theme this time around, to see how that would go. I picked blue, olive and red (with a few pieces of black). The blouse is silk and was $15.00 - wow! What a deal!
This is my vintage 80s high-waisted Gianfranco Ferre wool skirt (bought back here in 2009, detail pictures), last worn here in April 2010.
Isn't the blouse pretty? I love the deep U neckline and the sweet little puffy sleeves. It's actually quite long - hip-length - and I'm looking forward to wearing it untucked at least once this month.
I'm on a non-roll with my tights - yet another pair that popped a hole. However, I've had these for at least a year, so I know I got plenty of wear out of them.
My office was chilly today, so I ended up wearing the olive jacket all day - I last wore it here in September.
I liked the blue and teal together quite a lot and got a few compliments on my outfit today.
Sorry about the colour on this one, but it shows the nice hand-done silkscreen pattern:
The black spots are flies (yes!) and the cross-hatched circles are done in an olive green shade. Cool, eh?
The stuff:
The Smoking Lily belt worked perfectly with the top, with its gold moths and the blue lines (gee, it's like they were made by the same company or something). I went with more gold with the big leafy earrings and the chunky chain.
This is the second wear of these shoes that I got via trade-in on consignment back in November (seen here), and unfortunately, they are the first item so far this year to be removed from a capsule due to Condition Issues. I kept feeling little "rocks" inside the shoes all day, and when I finally examined them, I found that the side leather seams had split and the material inside that was holding the sides up rigid was disintegrating.
Sad! So they are going into the donation pile and another pair of shoes will take their place. Aw...
Jacket (RW & Co., consignment), blouse (Smoking Lily), skirt (Gianfranco Ferre, vintage 80s, thrifted), belt (Smoking Lily, consignment), shoes (Marina Luna, consignment), bracelet (Club Monaco), earrings (Plum)
Yea, I see my fave boots! Can't wait to see all your March goodies
ReplyDeleteEee! You got one of the 'bug' shirts. I love the insect prints of Smoking Lily. One of these days I want to buy one of their bee skirts. I love the flies though. It's creepy in the best way.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the shoes! I had that happen to my favorite yellow flats awhile back. Never found a replacement for them.
Loving this outfit - and that this capsule has a different colour pallet - looking forward to watching it unfold :-)
ReplyDeleteThe silk blouse is indeed fab, as is that killer skirt. And I love the colors you've chosen for the month, it should be a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteThat blouse is made of awesome! Too bad about the shoes but now you can replace them with something else funky.
ReplyDeleteI love the Fluevogs you chose. Are those the same teapots I have but in burgundy?
Agreed, Megan! Yes, those are the Sencha Teapots - I just love them, although these ones are getting beat up from me wearing them so much!
DeleteI love the outfit , classy all the way a great combination ! Donna
ReplyDeleteI am such a fan of that top. The color and the fly print are just too appealing :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the shoes - what you describe is what usually happens to my bags :(
totally sucks.
When I saw that shirt I was like, "Oh man, oh man, oh man, pleeeaaassee, let there be a close up!" Okay so they weren't bees, (I have a thing for Napoleon's bees), but hey, the flies are the next best thing. That shirt is AWESOME. High five on scoring that one!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah and a moment of silence for the shoes. : (
ReplyDeleteI am amazed the top was only $15! what a great deal, congrats! :) It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing how you wear all your capsule pieces this month :)

Very pretty outfit. Do you think you could put some adhesive moleskin on the inside of the shoes to enable you to keep wearing them? They are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteAre you pre-selecting the jewelry for your challenge? I noticed the color theme in the first photo. this blouse is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove this--i love your capsule color scvheme!!
