Casual Friday - Kooky Crinoline

I've been waiting for the weather to cool off a bit before wearing this new skirt.
I'm not sure if it's meant to be a crinoline, but that's how I'm wearing it! It's not vintage - the fabrics are modern. It was nice and warm, though.

This is my denim dress that I haul out every so often. I admire Kasmira's and Audi's layering of skirts under dresses and have been wanting to try this look. I was going to wear a wide grey belt (which is how I ended up with these shoes on), but then remembered that I had this new grey and plum obi...and that I had a toning cami too!
I felt very "out there" today - this is probably one of the kookier outfits I've worn to work, made doubly kooky by the fact that my work had a huge outdoor barbecue/carnival for everyone in my building, so everyone got to check it out. Ha! I love standing out in a crowd.

The stuff:
My fab shoes! Unfortunately, one of the heel caps came off, so these are in the "take them to the cobbler" pile. You can see a bit of the skirt/crin in the background - it is layers of mesh fabric ruffles sewn onto the base.

Dress (Ricki's), cami (Jacob, gift from Ruth), skirt/crinoline (no label, consignment), shoes (Poetic Licence, gift from L), obi (Smoking Lily, consignment), ring (The Bay), hoop earrings (gift from L).

  7. So cute, so pretty. This is a fun way to get more out of dresses and skirts. Bummer about the shoes, but at least it's fixable. They are the cutes shoes.

  11. Thanks, Anon.

FashionAddict, thank you - that was the goal, but to still be modern.

Nurmisur, if I can do it, so can you! I'm a total chicken when it comes to new looks.

MS - oh, thank you so much!

    Thanks, Anon.

Thanks, Kari - yeah, I love the shoes!

Yup, they are one of my favourite pairs of shoes, Alison. I hope to be able to layer this skirt more as the weather gets colder.

    Kaylyn, thanks!

Lorena, thank you very much. Copying others really helps! I would never have tried this a year ago.

    Thanks, Eednic!

Lesa, please feel free to try it out!

  12. I think you nailed the dress/skirt combo. And I esp love how the denim toughened up the uber-girliness of the skirt.

  13. Thanks, Tina! I was quite nervous of what people at work would think. Wait till I bust this out with something really girly, muahaha!
