I'm very pleased with it, and I know they are going to love it. It's not a perfect duplication of the original photo, but I'm happy with how it turned out. It captures the feeling of the place right, to me.I did some more highlighting on the beach: added some dark & bright to make it look more sun-kissed with light, and did more highlighting on the trees, as well as adding in some wispy bits in the foreground grasses/bushes. There's a bit of flash burn at the top of the picture; that's what that sort of white fuzz is.
Now I just have to frame it.
I've started another picture, one of the view outside our deck. L's idea: to have a picture of our "old" place, since we're thinking of moving in the next few/several months/year. It's an amalgam of all the trees we see when we look outside. So far, I just have some colour blocked in. The style is totally not like the picture above, which is more like an oil painting (I did lots of oil painting when I was a kid - thanks for all the classes at our house, mom!).
Congrats on your first painting post! I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Jean, who has a soft-spot for artists
Aw...thanks, Jean. I've actually done art my whole life - it is just focussed on my clothes right now. Thanks for digging up this old post!
