Chartreuse Bookending Picnic Plaid

Six weeks to go in my spring/summer wardrobe and now I'm getting down to the nitty-gritty in What Hasn't Been Worn Yet in my closet. Very few "backwards" hangers remaining, go, me!
This outfit features a couple of oldies but goodies - this designer top (Miu Miu), and the picnic plaid skirt.

  • Top - Miu Miu, thrifted; last worn here in May 2023 (same shoes!) with cropped velvet
  • Skirt - J. Crew, thrifted; last seen here in May 2023, but Regret-Me-Not-ed recently
  • Shoes - Fast Cars Mille Miglia, Fluevog; last worn here in May with neon leopard trousers
  • Blazer (below) - Moda International, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in June over my sailboat dress

I bought this silk blouse/sweater/top in 2018, which seems like only yesterday...6 years ago!
I've actually worn it with this skirt before too, but with a different pair of chartreuse shoes. Click here to revisit my April 2019 ensemble.

I've always been a fan of "bookends" and chartreuse is one of my best shades of green.
I have waffled over this skirt multiple times - for now, I'm keeping it, as it's a useful work skirt.

On the plus side, it's excellent quality (J. Crew), and fully-lined in cotton, but that means I can't wear it in winter due to Cotton Rage (the summer version of Velvet Rage).
And it's a navy blue base (not black), and I just don't own a lot of navy. It may end up in Limbo again, but no need to decide now.

In case I needed to be extra-profesh.
I really liked how the stripe of this useless* blazer worked with the skirt, but the office was dead and I didn't want to roast in my silk top.

*No pockets = useless!

Incognito.
I only wore the blazer while walking to and from work.

Accoutrements and stuff:
Having a bit of navy meant a perfect match with one of my YSL scarves, so that was a bonus. I guess I need a teeny bit of navy!

  • Silk scarf - Yves Saint Laurent, vintage 80s, thrifted

I had a feeling it would be a quiet day - I didn't walk much in these shoes. They are a 2" heel (there's a platform), which is pretty much my max these days.

Green and gold bling:
Everything but the shark cuff belonged to Mom or her mother/my Gram S. It was comforting to have them with me.

  • Crystal brooch/earrings - vintage 50s, Gram S.'s
  • Green crystal bracelet - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Gold-plated shark cuff - Tom Binns, 2012, consignment
  • Coral/olivine ring - Hawaii, c. 1977, Mom's
  • Sparkly cocktail ring - vintage 70s, Mom's

How was your day?

  1. That's a totally fab outfit, Sheila! I'm loving the chartreuse bookends and I seriously hope that skirt doesn't end up in limbo. Loving the profesh look withe the striped blazer too, although I'm hearing you on the lack of pockets! xxx

  2. This is a lovely blouse. I love this shade of green. The green accessories are so well matched, from shoes to bling to the scarf.
This picnic pencil skirt looks so great on you. The blazer is a nice finishing touch. There's something professional and preppy about pencil skirts, they always look so polished. Such a pretty and feminine styling. You look amazing!

  4. Your outfit is a perfectly cool ensemble, both for the coolness of the chartreuse and the coolness of the outfit combo. Yay for carrying family with you via their jewelry; I'm a big fan of doing so. Your look is totally professional with a bit of spice!
My day (which is this morning, Saturday, August 24 and not the day you wrote your post) is going much better than previous days, yippee, as the vertigo seems to be abating!
    Cheers, Laurie

  5. I really like the blazer and the rolled up sleeves just make it look super cool and effortless. I'm currently hunting for a decent black one for Autumn.

  6. Oh yes...so good. It has a fifties vibe but the shoes make it totally modern.
I am going through your posts but won't comment on everything. I am so behind, but you know why.
