Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Black and White Circle With Pink; Shop With Jess in Pinks; Dinner in Orange Velour

Welcome back, Gentle Readers! I hope you've been having a good weekend and have been up to your own shenanigans!

In this post, I've got my Friday work 'fit featuring my Finnish circle skirt, a Shopping Trip with colleague Jessica (I may have bought a couple of things) on Saturday, and a quick dinner out with my sweet husband too.

Friday's black and white mix.
The office was dead, but I twirled once for coworker Lesley. "Ooh, Finnish." She was impressed.

  • Jacket - Brooks Brothers, thrifted; last seen here in May 2023 with a favourite skirt
  • Top - Theory, thrifted; last worn here in February with black and white and blue
  • Skirt - Leona, Finland, thrifted; purchased here for $12.00
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last seen here in August 2023 in a sparkly outfit
  • Jacket (below) - Dolce & Gabbana menswear, consignment; last worn here in August 2023 with black and white and copper

It's a true circle.
It was rather voluminous to wear, although walking in it was fun.

I added another black and white print - stripes - and then a couple of pieces of pink.
This jacket's been with me a long time - I'm not 100% sure that it's still a "me" piece, though.

Ah well, I have all summer to think about it.
I love the skirt - I'm looking forward to wearing it with a pair of boots!

I usually tie it in back of the blazer so that I can wear it unbuttoned without the belt dipping in the toilet.
I tie a neat reef knot - I got my Knots badge in Brownies!

Outerwear and incognito.
I liked the sporty jacket with it (and appreciated all the pockets).

Yay, it's Friday!
Still not very warm out at all. Rain is on the way.

Accoutrements:
More black and white.

  • Silk scarf - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - thrifted

The stuff:
I'm also looking at these shoes with a critical eye. I have pink sequined sneakers...and these are a little short in the toes.

Silver and pink bling:
I always enjoy wearing one of my sets of Sherman - this one reminds me of when Cat and Elaine and I went to a vintage fair together many years ago. I bought this set for $25.00 - a steal, as this would sell for over $125.00 now.

  • Crystal heart bracelet - Juicy Couture, consignment
  • Filigree bracelet - St. Paul's Cathedral gift shop, London
  • Brooch - Trifari, vintage 50s, Gram S
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Anneke & Lars silver ring - vintage mall
  • Crystal necklace/earrings - Sherman, vintage 60s, vintage fair

Before I left for work I took a picture of Vizzini, gazing out onto the cold deck.
"I'm pining for the fjords..."

Silly boy.

After an evening of board games and chilling out, L and I were up early on Saturday to go our separate ways - he for brunch with pal Steve, and me to head to Bear & Joey to meet up with colleague Jessica for a Shop With Sheila.
We've worked together for over 10 years - it's about time she took me up on my shopping offers!

  • Jacket - Only, consignment; last worn here in February for our trip to Powell River
  • Elton John tee - thrifted; first seen here in February for a grocery shop in a pink mini
  • Skirt - Kelco Leathers, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in August 2023 for a Mom-Day at Beaver Lake
  • Boots - Doc Martens, thrifted; last seen here in February with a pink dress for work

This is how I looked for most of our shop, as we browsed through MONA, the Velvet Crease, the Vend Collective, and Botched, all on Fort Street.
Hands-free and ready to browse!

We enjoyed a lovely brunch at Bear & Joey.
I took my jacket off while we were there.

I love this wonderful vintage suede skirt.
As it was our first shop together, I grilled Jessica on her style, shopping habits, closet and other pointed questions to help me help her find what she was looking for.

Incognito.
We spent about four hours going through everything, chatting, and picking things for her (and me, of course!) to try on.

Accoutrements:
I ended up not needing my gloves.

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, thrifted
  • Scarf - fake Louis (Lewis!) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Suede gloves - vintage, thrifted

It was sunny for a little bit - but it also spitted rain. Spring...

The stuff:
Good shoes for walking - I didn't take them off at all.

Minimal bling:
Some of my favourites, old and new.

  • Belt - B-Lo The Belt, thrifted
  • Silver/amethyst bracelet - Cyprus, vintage mall
  • Leather cuff - thrifted
  • Amethyst pendant - gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1990
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy
  • Earrings - consignment, c. 1996

I took a couple of pics on my walk down to meet Jessica.
This dogwood tree was in full bloom - plus that's a lovely old Victorian house (it's a lawyer's office).

These pink cherry blossoms are my very favourite.
Just a giant ball of pink floof!

Jessica in a gorgeous cotton Banana Republic jacket with gold dome buttons.
Looks fantastic on you! Buy it! This was at the Velvet Crease - Jessica found a beautiful Judith and Charles blazer (made in Canada) at MONA, a big bag of stuff from the Velvet Crease (everything was an extra 20% off).

I always find a few things for myself on these trips - I'd eyed this jacket at MONA the last time I was in and wished I'd bought it.
It's fake leather, but isn't the colour glorious? A very marigold yellow.

All of the pockets are fully functional!
But the belt (if there was one) was missing. I don't mind that, though.

It's by Zara, and was $38.00.
It would have retailed between $79 and 99.00, so not bad!

At Velvet Crease, I gasped at this beautiful silk dressing gown.
Caramel with lime green edging? Um, yes!

It's by Sumo Silk and it is 100% silk.
No hits on that brand online - it's likely pre-internet. I bought it for L - it was $100.00 after the 20% discount. He loved it and wore it while we played board games later that evening.

I spotted this necklace on a display. Yellow jewelry is pretty rare - and this is in very good condition.
It's not a name brand or anything (no marks), but it was only $16.00. I'll get a lot of use out of it.

This zip-front cardigan had to come home with me. I love the design of it, which reminds me heavily of Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein's work (MOMA link here, 'cause I love - as always).
Do you see the nose and mouth on the right? The mouth (lips and teeth) are all in sequins.

The black is pretty boring, aside from a little brand sewn-on logo at the top.
I like the striped cuffs and hem, and the non-matching sleeves.

This looks like a tube of lipstick.
The knit is all woven - the design is not printed on, so I know this automatically better quality.

This arm is...blue tiger stripes? Sure!
It's red/orange, black and burgundy on the cuff.

This sleeve spells out "Desigual" in various upside down and backwards ways.
Oh, I'd already known it was you, Desigual, by that black back!

There we are. This was $42.40 after 20% off.
I saw one advertised online for $150.00 second-hand, so that was a deal.

I bought this fabulous dress at the Vend Collective.
"It might be nice to sleep on."

I love this vibrant chartreuse colour. The dress is all handmade.
It has a side zip.

With a pleasant surprise - the entire waistband has a grosgrain ribbon banding, and a hook here to hold it in place.
This was $60.00 which felt good.

We popped into Botched so I could show Jessica all their cool vintage designer stuff - she was boggled at their Nike/Maison Margiela split-toe sneakers (I am tempted!! but they are VERY expensive).
I did take this Sex Pistols button out of the "free" dish, though.

I had a brief respite after walking home, and then L and I strolled down to Christie's Pub for dinner.
Oh, let's make an effort, shall we?

  • Velour hoodie - Juicy Couture, vintage 00s, thrifted; first worn here (2nd outfit) in October 2023 with space pants
  • Long-sleeved sweater - Sonia Rykiel, vintage thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) in February, layered under sequins
  • Skirt - Cydney Mar, vintage 90s, thrifted; first seen here in October 2023 with black and white wings
  • Leather jacket (below) - Danier Leather, consignment; last worn here in November 2023

This is how I looked walking there and back.
I felt very clever for layering a white leather coat over the velour hoodie! It wasn't warm enough to skip a jacket.

And this is how I looked while I enjoyed a delicious salmon burger and salad.
I like dressing up for just L.

And this felt very comfortable without a major effort.
The skirt is wonderful - I love the flounced mesh.

And this velour Juicy Couture hoodie is snuggly and thick.
Pockets!

I would totally layer these pieces again.
I liked how this still looked Spring-y.

All bundled up and ready to go.
"Go? You're leaving me again?"

We'll be home soon, bud. No lingering!

Accoutrements:
I love having this white purse (faux leather) and silk scarf back in my closet.

  • Purse - Roots, thrifted
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Scarf - Metropolitan Museum of Art collection, thrifted

The stuff:
I walked slowly, as my feet were tired from all the shopping. I could have done sneakers, but I roused myself to wear Real Shoes.

Orange bling:
One of my favourite "sets", although I skipped the orange earrings.

  • Plastic bracelet/ring - Italian, vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Orange bangle - consignment, Sidney
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Earrings - thrifted

And now, off to spend the dwindling hours of my weekend with this little monster.
"Foul lies! Now, open the deck door so I can go out there.

Your wish is my command.

Thank you so much for stopping by, my friends!

  1. Isn't a good shopping trip the best! Well almost the best. Going out for dinner beats that for me, lol. I adore that circle skirt! That's sick a gorgeous one. Wouldn't it look super cool with your black leather biker jacket? Have a great start of the week!

    1. I don't actually have a black leather biker jacket, Nancy, but yes, I agree - I plan to wear one of my coloured moto jackets with the skirt next!

  2. Your outfits from Friday onwards are all fabulous! The circle skirt is eye catching; have you ever weighed it? I like the colors, drapes and accessories of all your various outfits. Lucky Jessica! The jacket she (hopefully!) purchased is such a delight compared, especially, to jackets I wear. I think a jacket with shape and pattern and color is far superior to one without those elements! (I need to remedy this for my outer wear.)

The yellow faux-leather jacket and Desigual sweater are very appealing and I look forward to seeing you style them. As for weather, my app says Olympia’s temperatures are steadily warming so am guessing the same for Victoria. Enjoy!
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Jessica did indeed purchase that jacket, Laurie - I agree, coats are so much more fun when they are patterned! Yes, it's starting to get warmer, hooray!

  4. The Finnish skirt is a stunner and is looking gorgeous with the dusky pink jacket and shoes! I'm also swooning over Saturday's pink suede skirt.
How lovely to be able to take another colleague on a Shop with Sheila adventure. And of course, you needed to pick up a couple of things for yourself: my favourite of your finds are the marigold faux leather Zara jacket, and the chartreuse dress.
And my favourite of your outfits is the one you wore to Christie's Pub for dinner. The black, white and orange combo is delightful! xxx

    1. Thanks so much, Ann! I love taking people shopping and helping them find cool things that they love. I was smitten with the marigold jacket too!

Aw, thank you - I was really pleased with that look. :)

  5. It sounds like you could have a second career as a stylist, Sheila! It's lovely you take the time to take friends shopping in your special places. You had a skirt weekend, I see and all the skirt outfits were fabulous. I loved the circle skirt with the pink jacket which I can't believe was men's wear! You found some fab pieces too. I am so envious of the beautiful yellow necklace - what a stunning piece of jewellery.

    1. I would only want to do it for people I know and like, Vronni, otherwise it's too much like work. The pink jacket is Brooks Brothers, but they do make women's clothing - I've had several pieces by them over the years - this isn't a menswear piece!

I know, right? What a gorgeous necklace.

  6. Great post!
Where to start? I love all of your outfits, but the standouts for me are the sporty jacket paired with your black and white skirt and the amazing vintage suede skirt ensemble.
How lucky to find that beautiful silk dressing gown and Pop Art cardigan. Definitely keepers!
The Victorian lawyers office is stunning, as are your springtime blossom photos. x

  8. Sorry Sheila, I can't keep up with you! Always a pleasure to see that suede skirt and loving the Finnish number on you. The Desigual cardi is very Desigual, isn't it? I like to fritter a few minutes looking in their outlet in Spanish airports!
Hello Vizzini, you gorgeous boy! xxx
