Art-Inspired: Mondrian Monday, Lichtenstein Cardigan and Bowie Brooch

This is another short week for me, with a long weekend looming at the end of it. I can't wait! But first, I have to get through five days of work...in three days. Ugh. Better armour up!
I knew when I bought this dazzling Lichtenstein-inspired cardigan that I'd be wearing it with this skirt.

  • Cardigan - Desigual, consignment; purchased here for $42.40
  • Shirt - Eddie Bauer, consignment; last seen here in January with sunny yellow and orange
  • Skirt - LS, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in May to see "Come From Away" at the theatre with Yvonne
  • Boots - Powerhouse Jyoti, Fluevog; last seen here in March with my now-gone urban camo dress
  • Coat (below) - L'Atiste, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here a week ago

How did I know? Because the blue on the sleeve matches the blue in my "Mondrian" skirt exactly.
I suddenly realized I have all art-inspired pieces in my outfit - how cool!

I layered a plain white shirt (they do have their uses) under the cardigan and added a skinny vintage red leather tie.
I pulled the cuffs of the shirt down so that they showed.

I've never worn this skirt with anything other than black, white or blue.
This is its seventh wearing but the very first time with another colour. I loved the bits of red with this look.

I am half-asleep here and making a weird mouth like the sequined one on the cardigan. Very Klassy, Sheila.
Of course, I wore red lippy to match!

Incognito.
It spit rain all day, and made my hair go all wavy on the ends.

Don't care, la la la!
I wear my sunnies in the rain too - I just want to walk and not engage with people.

Accoutrements:
Pops of red! Hooray!

  • Beret - Parkhurst, consignment
  • Scarf - fake Louis (Lewis!) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Gloves - Picabo, Powell River

The stuff:
More red - such a power colour. I felt very confident all day. I didn't do a lot of walking in these booties, but I did waggle them at Fiona, and took one off to show my Vancouver colleague on our Teams call.

Bowie bling:
This little wooden David Bowie "Ziggy Stardust" brooch has been a great purchase - I paid $5.00 for it at a pop-up vintage fair a couple of years ago and have worn it several times.

  • Leather tie - vintage, thrifted
  • Steel/Lucite ring - Calvin Klein, thrifted
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave, Vancouver
  • Bowie brooch - vintage fair

I don't wear the tie often, but it's a vintage one from the 80s. So skinny!

  2. Wrapped in art! I have visions of you wearing this outfit at a Museum of Modern Art, as if you stepped out of two paintings and blended into the world!
Here’s to your upcoming long weekend. :)
    Cheers, Laurie

  3. At first glance, I thought that I had missed something in your last post and that the cardigan was a longline cardigan. Then I realised that you were in fact wearing separates. That skirt and cardigan are a match made in Heaven. Fabulous! Love how you've styled it with the skinny tie...and who doesn't love a bit of Bowie! x

  5. I don't envy you having to cram five days' worth of work into only three days and I'm therefore sure that the armour was well-needed!
Like Claire, I was temporarily confused, thinking you were wearing a long coat or cardigan. The Lichtenstein-inspired cardigan and the skirt are a true match made in heaven! The pops of red, including your lipstick - are just perfect too, and I'm once again admiring those fabulous red boots with their corkscrew heels! xxx

  7. Well this is darn funky! I love it! The Mondrian skirt especially. I LIKE the cardigan but I've got this weird thing about NOT liking Lip pictures or photographs of close ups of lips!!! But apart from that,it's SOOOOOO cool!xx

  8. What a great outfit! The white shirt and red tie were a brilliant choice, a bit of Teddy Boy to go with Bowie. Love it!
