Mom-Day Lunch: New Blue, a Cape and Old Faves 22 Times

Hello, my friends! I'm so grateful for my day off. I got to see Mom again (even if only briefly), it was sunny out (although cold), and I had a little quality kitty-time.

Mom's had a stressful week with some house repairs, so she wasn't up for more than a lingering lunch at Christie's Pub.
I took the opportunity to mix and match my new blue skirt with some of the oldest workhorses in my closet: this blazer and these boots.

  • Blazer - Le Chateau, consignment; last seen here in January for a very successful Mental Health shop
  • Sweater - Wanko, thrifted; last worn here in April with a gone skirt
  • Skirt - Ports, vintage 80s, consignment; purchased here for $70.00
  • Boots - Libby Smith Bellevue, Fluevog; last seen here in February 2021 for Zoom calls with Nancy, Mom and Jenn
  • Cape (below) - Coracle Clothes, Welsh, vintage 60s, pass-along from Sheila A; last worn here in May with all the purples

My view of the Castle.
The air looks cold!

Mom-Daughter selfie! I really missed my mom last week.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Back to the outfit!
Isn't that skirt a gloriously bright blue? I missed pockets (grrr), but it was otherwise lovely to wear.

It has a really nice shape.
Full, without being overly bulky. Not too long either.

The jacket is black velvet and the front and lapels are fully embroidered.
This is its 22nd wearing since I got it in 2011 - it's from the early 00s. You can visit most of my older outfits in the Flashback here

Without the blazer, although I never took it off. Just a plain cream wool turtleneck for warmth.
I love the high waist of the skirt - the belt helps pulls my waist down visually to a more reasonable spot on my body.

Showing my underthings.
Fleece-lined tights and an extra half-slip. The skirt is lined, but additional warmth was welcome. It ended up getting in the way/riding up.

Masked up and in my outerwear.
I often wear this purple beret/glove set with this purple/blue/green woven wool Welsh cape.

Incognito.
I walked home after lunch - a young person complimented me on my ensemble. "Your outfit is so fun!"

"Every day is a new chance to wear something fun!" I replied.

Accoutrements:
The purse is from the 80s - I bought it in a vintage shop around the time I met L, back in 1996.

  • Purse - Liz Claiborne, vintage 80s
  • Beret - consignment
  • Gloves - Danier
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
Bizarrely, this is also the 22nd time I've worn these booties! You can view a Flashback here. They are nearly 12 years old and still soft and looking great.

Copper bling:
Grandma J came for lunch with us. Not really her, but some of her copper jewelry!

  • Belt - Club Monaco
  • Copper mesh bracelet - Renoir, vintage 50s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - vintage expo
  • Leaf/enamel brooch - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 50s, thrifted
  • Cuff - Renoir, vintage 50s, Grandma J's, given to me in the 80s
  • Necklace - unmarked, vintage 50s, Grandma J's, given to me in the 80s

Vizzini, I'm going out!
"You woke me up to tell me this?"

He is snuggled up with George the Hot Water Bottle. Stay warm, little buddy!

Mom and I had a lovely lunch (fish tacos for her, a salmon bowl for me), chatting non-stop.
You look so lovely in your pink, Mom. I love you!

When I got home, I took my "stuff" pics. Suddenly, I felt something touch my foot.
"Um, hello! This tum won't rub itself, Woman."

Silly boy. Time to go have some kitty-snuggles.

And now, my friends, I'm off for the weekend. I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure!

  4. Yay for Mom time, and I am in complete agreement with you…Helen, the pink sweater and neckline look beautiful and fabulous on you! So glad you two had time together. We also find it a weee bit stressful to have indoor work done in our home so we quite empathize with you. I imagine lunch out with one another helped chase away the yuck of home repairs/upgrades.

Sheila, that blue skirt rocks the color! You’ve “heard” me wax poetic about this color and also complement you each time you wear this shade; this time is no different. :) Your entire ensemble makes me smile. I always enjoy when your outer wear meshes with your outfit, and the cape is amazing. I think you have another one in this style, as well. Ah, I wish wool didn’t cause my eyes to water and my throat to scratch!

Here’s to a glorious weekend! Am off to make French toast. :)
    Cheers, Laurie

  5. I'm swooning over your outfit, Sheila! That skirt is gorgeous and looks even better on, and what a perfect companion it has found in the embroidered blazer! And I guess I don't have to tell you how much I love the Welsh wool cape!
Loving your Mom's pink jumper with its asymmetrical collar too. That colour definitely suits her.
I'm glad you were able to spend time together, and a leisurely lunch sounds absolutely perfect.
Have a wonderful weekend, Sheila! xxx

  7. I had a beautiful royal blue wool knit dress from Ports, with a matching ruched button-up belt. Ports knew how to make styles that flattered the female form. I loved wearing that dress.
