Tweed, Swirls and Marigold

I'm nearly out of my pre-planned outfits - I'll have to spend some more time in the closet putting together another round of things. Every time I do this, I see fewer and fewer backwards hangers, so I know I'm slowly but surely making my way through all my clothes.
Today's outfit features this not-yet-worn-this-season wool tweed jacket. It is always a pleasure to wear (it has silk lining!), but it's an unusual cut and shape, so requires a bit of planning.

  • Jacket - Julie Haus, Fall 2011 RTW Collection thrifted; last worn and Flashbacked here in March 2021
  • Blouse - H&M, thrifted; last seen here in October 2021 with orange and plaid
  • Skirt - Nine West, thrifted; last worn here for brunch in December 2021 with greys
  • Shoes - Mission Monica, Fluevog; last seen here in November 2021 with stripes and a tube dress
  • Coat (below) - Apparence, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in December 2021

I had intended on wearing my cream Victorian blouse with this, but as I sat on my stool in the closet with Vizzini on my lap (purring away as I scritched him under the chin and neck), looking at my outfits last night, I realized that the little tan bits around the zippers (front and back) on the jacket went really well with this marigold blouse.
Once I had the blouse, I started hunting for the right pair of shoes, and my eyes landed on these orange ones. They don't match exactly but they go, and they're far enough away that it all works.

The skirt is suede - isn't it cool?
I loved how funky it looked with the jacket. These swirls are practically neutral!

Masked up.
The office is dead right now. I spoke to only one person face-to-face (and we wore our masks), but it was my colleague Sheila, and I got to give her a twirl and waggle my shoes at her.

Outerwear - it felt like an Unsafe Polar Bear kind of day!
I'm going home to hibernate until this is all over.

Accoutrements:
I probably should have worn a hat, but none of mine caught my fancy this morning.

  • Scarf - gift from Mom, Italy
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
These are "difficult" shoes in the same mold as today's jacket - they require a bit of work to make them harmonize with an outfit. However, they are insanely comfy (the soles are rubber and very squishy).

Copious bling:
I positioned the umbrella brooch vertically on the breast pocket, so that it looked like it was hanging off my pocket.

  • Choker - Myka, thrifted
  • Necklace - POLY, thrifted
  • Bracelet w/amber glass - R&G Co., vintage 1920, vintage mall
  • Silver/gold bracelet - JPL, vintage fair
  • "C" floating bracelet - POLY, thrifted
  • Green stone bracelet - vintage 30s, vintage mall
  • Earrings - vintage fair
  • Umbrella brooch - vintage, gift from L
  • Shiny ring - POLY, vintage fair
  • Matte ring - POLY, Hamilton Art Gallery

I pulled out four of my Christoph Poly pieces - one of my mini-collections. I'm wearing all my armour!

  2. When you match your shoes to a top or jacket it makes me smile; it's matching book ends! I'm also a fan of marigold over cream so yay for choosing the marigold top. :-) The shoes are quite something up close! Till you showed the close up photo I had not remembered how intricate they are with the heel, buckle and pattern.

"I'm going home to hibernate till this is all over." Oh yuh, am right there with you. Winter is usually tough on my psyche, mid-January till early March (unless March brings an early spring!) Coupled with extra precautionary measures due to Omicron, and yesterday I reached a high level on my "stir crazy" meter. ;-) Thankfully, Fred noted that case numbers appear to be on a downward trend in NY. Whew.

I've swooned over so many of your recent outfits! I appreciate the variety from one to the next, and that every outfit has at least one "not your everyday" accent, be it a top, jacket, skirt, or shoes.

Just want to also say your post from last week for your Sheila & Mom outing almost had me in tears. So beautiful to spend time with your Mom and reminisce together. Smiling. :-)

    1. I love bookends and I love matching - what can I say? :) I'm glad I wore a bright colour - it did cheer me up to see my marigold bow throughout the day, Laurie. Yes, aren't the shoes amazing? Fluevog truly makes some stunners.

This time of year is really difficult, isn't it? Fortunately things brighten and warm here pretty quickly - we should be seeing some flowers and greenery in the next couple of weeks. Same here: cases are still high, but starting to go down. Hopefully in the next few weeks/month we will see them drop dramatically.

Aw, thank you, my dear friend. I try to keep it interesting.

I'm so glad you enjoyed that post - so did I!

  3. Those shoes are a work of art! They deserve to be showed off. I love all of your accessories, in particular, that umbrella brooch is gorgeous. Lovely jacket! I need to start using the reverse hanger method. The zebra skirt is super fun as well. Always a joy to see your outfits.

    1. I love them too - I had fun with all the accessories in this outfit, it's fun to pile them on.

The reverse hanger method works SO well in ensuring you wear your whole wardrobe.

      Thank you!

  4. The tan zips on your jacket were a brilliant spot, the shoes are the perfect accompaniment.
I loved seeing the Unsafe Polar Bear, I'd forgotten about him! xxx

  5. Fantastic outfit, Sheila, and you are right: the marigold blouse works really well with the tan bits in your jacket. And there's some wonderful pattern mixing going on between the jacket and the swirly skirt as well. Those shoes are stunning, even if they are difficult. They work really well here too. I'm with you on hibernation. Today was a good day - we had some sunshine at last - but overall I just want to stay in bed and sleep. Perhaps I would, if it weren't for blogging, which urges me to actually do things. xxx

    1. Thank you, Ann! I really like how the swirls in the skirt went with the muted tones in the wool jacket. Oh, I am wanting to hibernate all the time! I am the same, I just want to stay in bed and sleep.

Agreed, if I didn't have to work (hee) and blog, I would probably be a depressed mess.

  6. I like the marigold blouse with this! It's a shame not many people were there to admire your outfit but that's one of the good things about taking blog pics - people around the world het to share and admire! :) Hope you get some time and motivation to plan more outfits in your wardrobe soon!

  7. Those are incredible shoes, though I can see where they might be tricky to style. You completely nailed it this time though. SO many great pieces to look at.

    1. Thanks, Goody! Fluevogs can be very tricky - they are quite bold on their own, so the outfit often needs to be built around them. Thank you!

And look at the interesting heel on your shoes! It's always great when you have a unique pair of shoes that are comfortable too - score! Xxx

  9. The shoes are so cool! I feel like they are a marriage with those Myth and Magic sculptures I used to love in the 90's!
