Equestrian Pink and Brown

When I was a little girl, I was mad about horses. I rode on a horse (once), but mostly admired them from afar. So it's not a complete surprise that I grew up to love the equestrian look.
Today's equestrian theme is brought to you by this pink shirt with all the chains and bits and buckles printed on it, a leather vest, vintage 70s skirt and some great boots.

  • Vest - Cabi, consignment; last worn here (and Flashbacked) in November 2020 with dragonscale and marigold
  • Blouse - Cache, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) for a shop in June 2021
  • Skirt - Kelco Leather, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in October 2021 with dark florals and a different vest
  • Boots - Rockport, thrifted; last seen here in December 2021 with brown bookends
  • Coat (below) - Donna Karan, consignment; last worn here in December 2021

All thrifted and bought second-hand, all different eras.
I have always liked a fitted vest.

This one is probably from the early 00s - I've had it since 2011 and this is its 24th wearing.
This is one of the nicest leather/suede skirts I've ever owned. It's heavy but still swooshy - Swoosh Factor 6.

Masked up:
I only spoke to a few people in person today: one colleague, the Purolator driver and the building security guard.

Outerwear:
I do like a monochrome look.

Accoutrements:
Milind's scarf makes my burgundy "set" complete!

  • Scarf - gift from Milind, India
  • Hat - Principles, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
Brown boots - classic. That's a very short heel when you factor in the platform.

Chain bling:
The two long necklaces and the earrings have been in my collection since the late 90s/early 00s.

  • Bangle - faux Gucci, gift from Mom & Dad, Italy
  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Earrings - c. 1998
  • Chain necklace - 2028, the Bay, c. 2000
  • Glass bead necklace - Oscar & Libby's, c. 2002

I'm off now for the weekend, my friends! Thank you so much for visiting my little corner of the blogosphere. I'll be back soon with tales of adventure!

  1. Pink and brown is one of my favourite combinations too. That's a beautiful skirt, though I do love it all. Hope you have a good adventure.

  2. The vest! I used to love fitted vests but have none now. Especially on cold days, a fitted vest was like walking around with a permanent warming hug. :) The suede is visible in the photos and I imagine it provides some nice warmth, especially with its length. The color says: strong and calming.

Here’s to a wonderful long weekend! And, LOL, I did not see the pun in my prior comment till you pointed it out. Yay for puns!

    1. Fitted vests very firmly went out of style in the early 00s - I remember a customer coming to me at Fairweather (high-end mall women's clothing store) and complaining that she couldn't find any. I recall that I recommended thrift stores to her!

Thanks so much, Laurie. I do find leather and suede nice and warm and calm. It's like wearing armour, literally!

Nice, you're punning instinctively, ha ha! Happy weekend to you and Fred!

  3. That skirt looks fabulous on you, what a gorgeous garment it is!
I've never been on a horse but two years ago today I was riding across the Thar desert on a camel, happy memories! xxx

    1. Thanks, Vix! I can us wrestling over it if we both saw it in a store (although I would win, as it would be too big on you).

I would try riding a camel - I hear they are a bumpy ride!

  4. I didn't know that about you and horses! Our early loves stay with us. I've only riden a real horse once (in my youth); now I climb on iron steeds. :)

    1. I still have my collection of horse stamps - I won Major Awards with my exhibit!

Yes, you've traded in the animal for the machine, Ally.

  5. Love this so much. and horses actually lured me out to comment :) I rode horses for a long time before I went away to college. I just realized recently that I still love the equestrian look-- knee boots, 'jodphurs', top, jacket is one of my uniforms...

  6. Now, that is one gorgeous suede skirt. I love the heeled boots you paired with it. Such a gorgeous outfit!! You wear equestrian chic so well. Great accessories too. You have a wonderful collection of earrings, bracelets and rings.
I loved horses when I was little too. Mostly admired them from afar as well. I don't think I've ridden horse more than once. I've ridden a donkey a few times...but I was always more interested in watching and talking to horses/donkeys then in riding them. I have made friends with some semi-wild and wild horses here.

    1. It really is, Ivana - thanks! I enjoy collecting jewelry - finding the "good stuff."

We have a lot of fellow horse-lovers, it appears! I know, I loved seeing the horse in your recent post! He was lovely.

  8. That suede is the stuff of dreams and it looks fantastic with the equestrian blouse - such a classic! - and the fitted leather vest. That outfit's got a definite 70s vibe, but with a modern twist. I like it very much indeed. And ooh, a long weekend? How wonderful! Enjoy! xxx

  10. I used to wear fitted, and over-sized, vests in my younger days when I was flat-chested. The suede skirt is such a lovely colour! Enjoy your long weekend.

  11. We are, once again, two peas in a pod! I was also pony mad as a youngster and though I did get to ride a very small number of times, certainly didn't grow up in the saddle and/or as part of the horsy crowd. A love for equestrian fashion followed me into adulthood and I don't see it ever bucking (pun intended) its way out of my sartorial convoy.
