Necessary PANK and Red

Ah, Monday - but at least it's a short week with Remembrance Day (Nov 11th) a holiday in Canada. L and I have also both taken Friday off, so I'm really looking forward to a nice four-day weekend!

But I still have three days to get through, and that means lots of colour!
I was really happy with this bright outfit today. This is my favourite shade of pink: PANK (all caps). As in, "It's so pink it's PANK!"

  • Wool jacket - Gap, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in September with a pouffy skirt
  • Blouse - Tatum & Olivia, consignment; last seen here in October with my Tattoo Jacket for brunch
  • Wool/angora skirt - Escada, vintage 80s, thrifted; first worn here in January with purples
  • Shoes - Truths Pilgrim, Fluevog; last seen here in March to say farewell to Pluto's
  • Sleeveless coat (below) - Only, thrifted; last worn here in September

This skirt is challenging to style due to it being three bold colours: PANK, red and dark purple.
I deliberately kept this PANK jacket out for winter this year, both for Colour Therapy and to go with this skirt. It's a necessary colour!

I went with just basic white for the top, although with all the ruffles, this is anything but basic.
And I just wore beige nylons instead of the purple tights I'd planned - they felt too dark.

The skirt is wool mixed with a touch of angora - it's knit like a sweater.
The dark purple zigzags are intarsia knit - do you know this term? It means that the pattern is knit without the other colours being being carried across the back, leaving the inside of the garment looking almost the same as the outside. This article here shows the idea well (link 'cause I love, of course).

Masked up - I went with a red one.
I wish I'd had time to walk around and show this outfit to my colleagues, but I was swamped today and barely left my desk.

Outerwear. This sleeveless coat is awesome for wearing over other jackets.
Brrrr, it's getting colder out now, with temps hovering between 7-10 degrees night and day.

Accoutrements:
I wore my new-to-me gloves and they were lovely (I didn't notice the hand-softening properties at all), although the snap-straps like to come undone. I might have to crazy-glue them shut.

  • Gloves - Echo, consignment; purchased here for $32.00
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's
  • Scarf - Zhensi, Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
These shoes are amazingly comfy, which is why I have one pair of boots and another pair of shoes from this family.

Purple and pink bling:
I wore the brooch on the lapel of the jacket.

  • Brooch - Eaton's, c. 2000
  • Amethyst/silver ring - vintage mall
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Earrings - consignment, Vancouver

Do you have any PANK in your wardrobe? What's the brightest colour you wear?

  1. Such a stunning outfit -- I love the contrast of the white ruffles against the PANK!

  2. The jacket makes the outfit look like a suit! Definitely a perfect combo, and a cheerful set of colors. I have one pink long sleeved shirt and a recently rediscovered bright PLANK beanie style hat. LOL Yesterday Fred asked me not to wear it on our nature walks because he sees it in his peripheral vision and it impacts the otherwise calm of the marsh walk. Just now he said “it’s not that I don’t like it, it’s what I would call a special occasion hat.”

With each outing of the sleeveless coat I appreciate it more and more. Definitely a useful addition to have in your wardrobe. For many years it would frustrate me to dress nicely for an outing and then see the outer look not live up to the outfit due to having no appropriate outer wear.

  3. You wear PANK better than I've seen it worn before. The coat is awesome-though is it warm?

  4. Fabulous in Pank! That sleeveless coat is dead klassy and the new gloves are perfect.
I've got some PANK lipstick but it doesn't look right at this time of year, it's my Summer lippie! xxx

  5. Yes, i do have PANK in my wardrobe! I recently bought a PANK tweed jacket and a PANK blazer!
Must bear in mind to wear red with them some time, as it's such a brilliant combo, brightening up the darkest of days in an instant!
The skirt is fabulous - I'd never heard of the term intarsia knit though. Will have look at your link. I think I should have a lookout for one of those sleeveless coats to wear over my jackets. This is something my wardrobe is definitely lacking.
We too have a day off on Thursday because of Remembrance Day so with my usual Friday off it'll be a 4-day weekend for me too. Yay! xxx

  6. No pank in my wardrobe. My riskiest colour is blush. I primarily have a black, white and beige colour scheme going on. That is why I enjoy your wardrobe so much - it suits you perfectly. Another wonderful outfit - I love everything about it especially the coat!

  7. Awesome outfit and a great mood booster too! I have a few pank lipsticks, nail polish and one sleeveless, drapey-neck top that you've inspired me pull out and wear. Love the cool shoes!

  8. I just picked up a very PANK dress at the opshop for $1 that I'm extremely pleased about as it was a $25 one that was such a hit last summer it sold out. I can't wait to wear it!
I really like your outfit too - maybe it's just my screen but I thought the skirt was orange and pink and I got excited as on the same opshop trip I picked up an orange statement necklace and I know it will look great with the PANK dress! :) even the volunteer checking me out pointed out how nicely it would go together!

  9. Totally awesome colours! Yes, I have a very pank sweater and I love it! Believe it or not I once had a pair of shoes, in brown, almost exactly the same as your shoes today!

  10. Now that's a skirt! Classic color-blocking hues presented in attractive design. As interesting as your outfits are is how you manage to find their extraordinary pieces.

  11. Wow..that’s an outfit Shiela!
    Colours are divine.
I have ‘pank’ H&M sock books. Bought from eBay, way after they were a fashion item. I love them ! x

  12. This pank outfit is amazing. You wore it so well!

  13. This is definitely a full-on "Sheila" outfit! The pink in the jacket and skirt match up incredibly well, you would think they were sold together. Alas, I do not have any PANK in my wardrobe. The brightest colour I have is red, and in most cases it's part of a pattern, not a solid piece of colour. I love the way you incorporate all the brights into your wardrobe, but I will continue to happily rock the blacks and greys over here ;)

  14. I HAVE actually always wondered what Intarsia was! Thank you for the lesson.
I don't have loads of Pank though I did wear that PANK cosplay outfit a while back!! The skirt is so funky and I always adore that top!x

  18. You and hot pink/fuschia are a match made in colour heaven. It's awesome to see such upbeat hues as winter descends rapidly on our world. Especially today, as we're receiving our heaviest snowfall so far this season. Not, of course, that I'm complaining about the weather for a second - especially in light of what so much of the Lower Mainland has suffered through in recent days.

Big hugs & cheery wishes for the second half of November, my dear friend.

  19. I do not have any PANK. I'm not sure it would work with my hair. It looks ace with yours, though. My brightest colour will undoubtedly be a green, either emerald or a vivid lime.
