A Blast of Red

I wore a blast of red today, see? Har har, I'm hilarious.
I went through my closet last night and put together "rough" outfits (clothes + shoes only), so for the next two weeks I'll be sharing a veritable rainbow of colourful looks.

  • Dress - Little Moon, consignment; last worn here in May with leopard shoes
  • Shoes - Sumatra Coffee, Fluevog; last seen here in March with lime and burgundy
  • Snakeskin coat (below) - River Island, consignment; last worn here a week ago

I had planned to drape one of my new-to-me scarves to the shoulder, anchoring it with a safety pin (klassy!) and putting my tiger brooch over that, but it worked better in my head than in execution.
Hey, at least I'm trying.

I ended up using the scarf in my outerwear, and re-pinning my tiger brooch directly to the dress.
There was an impromptu meeting of our office management and my shiny gold tiger was much admired.

As was my blast of red. Colour Therapy!
I have a red vintage slip on under this for extra warmth.

Masked up - matchy leopard.
My colleagues appreciated that my mask and belt matched.

Outerwear - this coat isn't terribly warm, but I really like it.
So cute with the fedora!

Accoutrements:
There's the scarf. It was nice and warm at my throat even though it's not silk - it's a massive scarf.

  • Hat - Edward Mann, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Scarf - purchased here for $9.95, new with tags
  • Gloves - Cejon, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
My directors were much impressed by my shoes, and agog at the thought of 48 pairs of Fluevogs. Pfft, that's only half of my shoes!

Golden bling:
My jewelry was chosen with the vision of a giant swath of scarf taking up my bling real estate.

  • Belt - Talbots, thrifted
  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Tri-colour hinged bangle - thrifted
  • Eelskin bracelet - fake Gucci, Italy, gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1997
  • Tiger brooch - consignment
  • Earrings - thrifted

  1. I love the bold red and even if the scarf idea didn't work it's great you still wore and enjoyed the brooch! :) I find planning a few outfits in advance can make things easier too - I have a couple outfits laid out in my wardrobe for when I have nothing to wear, and a few ideas in my head I need to lay out as well, haha! Just to make getting dressed on those "don't know what to wear" days quicker!

    1. Yes, the dress is amazing just on its own, thankfully, Mica. I did really love the scarf, and my wee tiger is so fun. Outfit planning can really help speed things up in the mornings - glad you are using that trick yourself.

  2. Such a vibrant red! I can see how a scarf might have been too much as the dress is already frilled, but at least you got to work it in with the outerwear. You looked wonderful as always.

    1. This is my favourite red, Nana - yes, the scarf overwhelmed it, and I think it's more of an outerwear scarf than an outfit scarf. Thank you so much!

  5. That dress is absolutely stunning, and really didn't need much else to make it Klassy! The matching belt and mask are very Klassy too! The brooch, coat and shoes are seriously drool-worthy too. 48 pairs of Fluevogs! Wow, that really is a lot, especially as that's only half of your shoes. I will never feel guilty about buying another pair of shoes again :-) xxx

    1. I agree, Ann - it's fine on its own. I know, my colleague was stunned, especially when I told him that was barely half of my shoe collection. Nope, you need not ever feel guilty!

  6. Three cheers for vibrant color! Solid brights also feel psychologically warming to me, always nice in the chill of autumn.

There’s much to be said for planning an outfit in advance. I do that in ahead of most social outings. This means getting dressed early for an outing so if my mental plan doesn’t work or feel right (which has definitely happened!) I have time to make changes.

Chuckling about the coat, though, because I am at that stage where if I liked it but it wasn’t providing the needed functionality, off it would come, to be retired for the season.

    1. Hooray for colour, Laurie! I completely agree - all this colour is helping me immensely, as I struggle with the gloomy days and the increased stress at work.

I have to plan in advance and I always do a "test run" with fancy outfits, especially if they have something I haven't worn before. It's very reassuring to just get dressed then.

Ha! Many of my coats are all about the looks - despite my love for this one, my wearing of it will stop once the temps drop.

  7. I have the same difficulty in creating outfits. It is all wonderful in my head but often fails in execution (which I hate; it gets me down). But you did really well with this outfit.

    1. I often try to do a try-on the night before if I'm unsure about a look or fit (as my weight fluctuates), but I didn't with this outfit. Thanks, Greetje!

  12. It's been so hard to get out of bed in the morning when it's so dark, but we just turned our clocks back last night so at least it will be lighter in the morning (and dark when I get home from work, sigh).
