Orange Highlighted Jumpsuit

Just a quick post today to show you what I wore to work. I love this very bright orange jumpsuit, but it has an issue that I have always found really annoying. I figured out how to fix it, which I'll show you in a bit.
Whoosh! It was so windy today! We've gone from close to 40 degrees back down to half that in less than two days. I'm quite happy to have our breezy/sunny days back.

  • Jumpsuit - Kensie, consignment; last worn here for Orange Shirt Day in September 2020
  • Shoes - Faiths Low Reumah, Fluevog; last seen here in May (Flashback there too) with a teal slip-dress
  • Jacket (below) - Smoking Lily; last seen here in September 2020 (Flashback there as well)

I've got my pockets!
I have three jumpsuits total (we just saw this one last week), and this is my only solid-colour one.

It's very versatile for switching up my accessories.
And lets me show off a funky pair of shoes.

You can see a bit of my issue in this picture at the bum and the top of the neck - the zipper in it is WHITE.
Why on earth would you put a white zipper in an orange jumpsuit? It boggles the mind.

Since my Madd Sewing Skillz do not include hidden zipper installation, I got my craft on with...
An orange highlighter!

I ran the edge of it between the fabric and the clear teeth of the zipper.
You can kind of see how the orange highlighter coloured the white fabric of the zipper - the arrow shows where I stopped to take the picture. It did make a difference, and the white is less noticeable along the zip. I felt very clever indeed!

Oh, and I nearly forgot my mask today - remembering just as I was about to walk out the door.
My Converse are only for walking to and from work. I am Klassy that way!

  • Mask - by Mom

In a shocking turn of events, I wore a jacket!
It was for sun coverage, not for warmth, although I did become chilly in the office.

The stuff:
These are ugly shoes, but I love them. The lasts are actually wood.

Copper and turquoise bling:
I think my Grandma J would be tickled that I'm still wearing her earrings and ring after all these years.

  • Scarf - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Copper/enamel cuff - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage expo
  • Copper/enamel earrings - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, Grandma J's
  • Copper ball bracelet - vintage 70s, vintage expo
  • Necklace - vintage, Vix's twin, consignment
  • Copper/turquoise ring - vintage 60s, Grandma J's

Tomorrow is Canada Day, so I'll be chilling out with my favourite people. Happy Birthday to my fellow Canadians! See you on Friday!

  1. Impressed with your sharpie moves babes!
I don’t think those shoes are ugly…. They remind me of my old pair that disintegrated off my feet that night at Limbic :) Xocaro

    1. Thanks so much, honey!

They are not to everyone's taste - ha ha! Yes! OMG, those shoes, remember that??

  2. I love your jumpsuit AND your shoes. Very clever with the zipper. I have used sharpies on shoes before to fix weird threading (especially on all black shoes) or small details.

On a recent pair of black and blue skates I bought, a logo was an unmatchy teal. A blue sharpie fixed that right up. ;)

    1. Megan!! Thank you so much, my dear friend. I use sharpies on my shoes too.

Nice, well done! I hate visible logos most of the time - they should be paying US to wear their names!

  3. That's such a clever move with the zipper! The orange is gorgeous and I love the shape of the jumpsuit. Turquoise is SUCH a good companion to orange! I'm regretting not buying a jumpsuit in the charity shop on Saturday- it was navy blue with tiny white stars on. I didn't purchase it because 2 of my 3 jumpsuits are navy blue and the material was synthetic but it was so nice!
    Happy Canada Day!

    1. Thanks, Kezzie, I was pretty impressed with myself, hee hee. I love turquoise and orange together - one of my favourite combos.

Ah, you'll find another jumpsuit, I'm sure. :) Thank you!

  4. Necklace twins!!!
That was an inspired move using that Sharpie pen on the zip, what on earth were the maker's thinking? It's an ace jumpsuit, the length is perfect for showcasing those killer sandals! xxx

    1. Twinsies! Thanks, Vix! I think the jumpsuit might have been a sample, as it's so weird to have a white zip. Thank you! I love these shoes.

  5. I'm glad it has cooled off for you! And that was a clever idea with the zipper - I'm glad it's fixed the annoyance for you as you look so good in it! :)

    1. It's such a relief to go back to normal summer temps, Mica. I don't know how you deal with high temps!

Thanks so much! I felt so clever, hee hee.

  6. I like the colors of the sandals. Heels are a tad high for me (who am I kidding, they are way too high ;)) but that doesn’t negate my liking them. :) Ditto what others have said about the cool marker fix.

As for the jumpsuit, I think the vibrant color looks fabulous on you, and for me it also works as color therapy. Suzanne Carillo recently posted a gorgeous soft yellow, olive and cream jumpsuit but, alas, it is not my size. I have mixed feelings about buying vintage at not much cost and potentially paying as much or more to have it altered. Sigh.

I think you may have commented once how perfectly the scarf goes with the shoes. I appreciate that! And once again, I love your copper and turquoise jewelry!

Enjoy the cooler temps and celebrating Canada Day!

    1. I do too, Laurie, and yes, they are at my limit for height, although the wedge heel makes them easier to wear and walk in.

Thank you so much! Ooh, that jumpsuit of Suzanne's sounds good, but it's really trick buying things like that without trying them on first. Not worth it.

I likely did, as I often wear them together. Thank you so much, my dear friend! Happy 4th of July to you!

    2. Thank you for your comment about it being really tricky buying without being able to first try on. I am glad you said "not worth it." I was debating but your comment helped to resolve the debate!

    3. I would only buy vintage online if I knew the brand/label and had something by the same label (like my Marjorie Hamilton "bubbles" dress, for example). I would also check the measurements REALLY carefully against my own body.

Also, with anything vintage, especially pre-70s, you're going to need to wear underwear that helps your body fit the shape of the clothes, like a pointy bra or shapewear for the waist (the bust-hip-ratios back then were insane, like 36-24-26? not doable for most people!).

I'm really good at eyeballing vintage against my own body, but I'm also a classic hourglass (thank you, good genes!) and I know what will work on my body - IN PERSON. And even then, it doesn't always work for me, Laurie. Online, all that is out the window.

  7. The temperatures may have cooled off, but that vivid orange is hot! Brilliant move to orange out the zipper - necessity is indeed the mother of invention!

PS: Those shoes aren't ugly - they have character!

  8. That jumpsuit certainly makes up for its lack of pattern with its bright orange colour. Truly, citrussy delicious. But I would hate the white zipper issue too. What a great trick with the Sharpie pen! I'll be adding it to my repertoire of non-sewing tricks!
That's quite a drop of temperature, but I'm sure you're more than glad to get rid of those ridiculous temps! Oh, and I don't think those shoes are ugly at all.
    Enjoy Canada Day! xxx

    1. Aw, thank you so much, Ann. I really love the vibrant orange of it. I am happy with my minor Sharpie fix - isn't it funny how many little tricks we develop?

It feels so much better! Such a relief. Glad to have you in the "not ugly" side, heh heh.

I'm pleased to hear that the temperature has dropped with you guys. That was a ridiculous situation to cope with.

  13. Happy Canada Day for tomorrow Sheila. I love the orange on you and it is the perfect backdrop to that gorgeous Vix twin pendant! That scarf could not match your sandals anymore if it tried! Great eye for detail as usual. I know you only wear the converse for walking to work but you still look funky with that gorgeous jumpsuit. I am in the "not ugly" camp for the sandals ha ha have a fab week-end and am glad you have cooler temps. Shazxx

      Thank you!!

  14. I am glad the temperatures are down to normal now. You must have been sweltering. But dropping that much in two days is ridiculous. The body cannot adjust that fast.
I love jumpsuits on you. You have the right figure for it. Your funky shoes go very well with it. The again I like the Converse as well. I know they are just for walking to work, but I find them nice with the jumpsuit.

  16. This has been the Summer of the Jumpsuit for me, so I'm happy to see you wearing your orange one. That is so odd that it would have a white zipper, but your DIY fix-it with the sharpie was good thinking on your part.
