Fancy Friday: Many Matchy Patterns, Ahoy!

Hello, my friends! The weekend is here - although all work days kind of feel like Fridays on my schedule - and I'm eager to chill out and relax in front of our new fireplace! I'm saving my "in process" and final pictures for its own post, however, so you'll have to wait to see how spiffy our living room looks. We also need to move a few things around and fuss and re-hang pictures, and you know how that can snowball...

So, Fancy Friday! As soon as I bought this skirt, I knew what I'd be wearing with it.
Namely, this red suede jacket.

  • Suede jacket (part of a skirt suit) - Holt Renfrew, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in November 2020 with a plaid dress
  • Blouse - Scotch & Soda, Maison Scotch, thrifted; purchased here for $9.95
  • Skirt - Jones New York, c. 2006; purchased here for $26.40
  • Shoes - Coffee Sumatra, Fluevog; last worn here in October 2020 with black florals
  • Coat (below) - Denny Rose, consignment; last seen here in November 2020

As you may or may not know, I dislike patterns that don't read well on camera - delicate small-scale prints are not something you'll see me in very often. This top and skirt just skate the edge of that line.
The blouse's pattern is little flowers (picture here), and the skirt's is waves of tan, cream, red and black.

The blouse looks like eyeballs from a distance.
And I don't mind how the skirt's pattern looks. It's discernable, at least.

The skirt was lovely to wear - so swooshy! Swoosh Factor 8, easy.
I realized that the outer layer is sheer, but the lining (which is the same print) is semi-opaque. I wore a vintage black half-slip under this for warmth.

Without the jacket, although I never took it off. I have a black camisole on under the top.
I actually have three patterns going on here, if you count the striped sleeves.

Masked up.
I layered the leather obi over the jacket's attached front ties (they're hiding inside the jacket).

Outerwear - I also knew I'd be wearing this jacket with this outfit.
The colours totally match! Matchy matchy, ahoy!

Fully bundled up.
The suede coat was a tight fit under this, but I appreciated all the layers - it was so cold today! I thought longingly of the fireplace all day at work.

Outerwear stuff:
I need my warmest gear!

  • Fur toque/scarf - Danier Leather
  • Velvet gloves - Cejon, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
And even the shoes match! This pleased my matchy soul immensely.

Black bling:
Some comforting favourites.

  • Leather obi - thrifted
  • Leather cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Fang bangle - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Sidney
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Earrings - thrifted

Here's a glimpse of the new draperies in the living room, as I zoom in on an unsuspecting Vizzini.
"What are you up to, Woman?"

The red curtains are black-out (we get the setting sun, facing west), and the cream ones with embroidered fern-y bits are more sheer. They're "striped" or staggered so that we can open the window, have diffuse light (but not direct sun) or have no sun (when watching TV/movies). I need options!

Vizzini hides when we move things around. He's not a very curious cat, although I'm sure he explored everything while we were at work.
"I resent these outrageous accusations!"

Says the cat who hid under the duvet while I built furniture yesterday!

Wishing you all a safe, calm few days - I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure. Thank you so much for stopping by.

    1. Thank you so much, Lise! I know, pre-done pattern-mixing takes all the guessing out of it!

  2. Good morning Sheila ( Sheil, She lol) well I knew when you got that skirt you would make a beautiful outfit out of it but wow you surpassed expectations! Even the laces in those gorgeous shoes match. I love todays outfit and you suit autumn colours. I also can't help but admire that crystal ring. The pattern mixing is clever. I am a bit of an interiors nut and I am looking forward to the reveal on that too ( I giggle sometimes because if you saw my house and clothes in real life well lets just say I am not in yours of Vix league but I have a bohemian spirit inside that just loves and above all appreciates what you have - talent. Gee that's all a bit deep back to look at the details Shazxx

    1. Shaz, hello! You can call me whatever you please, my dear! Aw, that's so sweet, thank you! Yes, even the laces match - I love that kind of detail. Ooh, I am not an interiors person, so this is a little newer to me. I don't think anyone is in Vix's league.

  3. I absolutely adore how you've teamned that skit with that Scotch and Soda top, I thought you'd been in my wardrobe and pinched one of my block printed dresses!
I can't wait to see your new fireplace. It's been almost a year since I went into another house but ours so it's so exciting to visit even if it is only virtually.
Vizzini and Frank would get along well, he's not a curious boy either, unlike Stephen who is currently walking along the edge of the stove top like he's not seen it before! xxx

    1. Ha! Yes, it's very much like some of your block-print, isn't it, Vix? I'm so excited about it - it's amazing to have our big space warm!

Vizzini is not very excited about other cats. I think he thinks he's a human.

  4. I've made a decision, and you have motivated me, that I am going to buy several belts over the coming months/year and use with a few outfits and dresses to update and change the look. I love how you wear belts. It will exercise more on my waist area. I a determined to come back to the office (some day) looking more fashionable.

  5. I'm loving the pattern mix! As mentioned I am a pattern chicken so I am awed and filled with admiration when other people do it and do it successfully - which you seem to do every time!

Black out curtains are the best! I have them in the bedroom and I'm spared both the light from street lights and full moons at night as well as the early morning sun. Yours are gorgeous colours!

    1. Thank you so much, Nana! It's not that hard - give it a shot!

I have never had them! We barely have curtains on our bedroom window. Thanks! We spent so much time looking, just to find curtains that weren't grey or white!

  6. Ahoy for the pattern mixing and fabulous skirt and red jacket, plus all the matching! The color palette is so perfect for a winter’s day.
And YEEHAH for your redecorating! I look forward to seeing the new living area. I find it satisfying and rejuvenating to redecorate. We do it rarely but since the Fall we’ve made numerous changes and improvements. For me, retirement provided the time to focus on those activities. Enjoy cozying up to L, V and your new fireplace!

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie!

It's been fun, although L and I fight/bicker constantly whenever we do something like this (we both want to be in charge). I'm enjoying focusing on making our main living area nicer, though. Thanks!

    2. Ah, understood! This time round, as I did 98% of the labor, Fred was amenable to my choices. ;) The biggie will be convincing him we should have a generator installed. That is my goal for the spring!

  7. I will tell you a funny story: When we were picking out curtains in the interior shop, we chose half sheer curtains and I wanted them lined for black-out. The sales person kept on saying what a shame it was because we would then lose the sheerness and bla bla. As he couldn't see the reason why I wanted them lined, I finally said: "Let's put it this way... I want to be able to be naked in my living room, without people outside seeing that." Right away Ron said: "I wish I were at home when you do that...." We had such a good laugh, the three of us.

PS I still love the shoes.

  8. My current schedule is playing havoc with my sense of time as I often forget what day it actually is from Thursday to Sunday. Wednesday is in effect the end of my - very short and interrupted - working week, so that's definitely got a Friday feel to it.
There's some brilliant pattern mixing going on in Friday's outfit and you managed to make it feel effortless too, if you know what I mean. I love it that the blouse's pattern reads like eyeballs, and I'm just a tiny bit disappointed they're actually little flowers! Belting that jacket with the obi was a brilliant idea as well.
The new draperies look fabulous, I can't wait to see more of your revamped living room. Phoebe doesn't like change either, and even if she's not in the room when we're adding or changing things, she always notices it first thing, even if it's something minor!
I'm hoping your weekend is relaxing and exciting in equal measures! xxx

    1. I have trouble remembering what day it is, especially with my one off/one on work schedule.

Thank you, Ann. I know, eyeballs would be way better!

Vizzini refuses to come into the living room. He's being really stubborn!

  9. Your curtains are gorgeous! When we lived in Toronto, we had thick burgundy curtains (the fabric of which fell sort of between velour and faux suede in texture) in our wee living room. We lived on the 23rd floor of a high rise apartment building at the time that got incredible natural light, but for those times when it wasn't required, the curtains were a godsend that did the job like a champ. I'd absolutely love to get some burgundy or otherwise inky red hued curtains again, though don't need to them block out light to the same degree anymore. We'd actually welcome more of it into our current abode.

Many hugs & wishes for a relaxing, wonderful last weekend of January!

    1. Thanks so much, Autumn! I love burgundy in decorating. Ooh, your curtains sound amazing! We have red velvet ones in the library that are quite sumptuous. I like a variety of light in the living room, and we both prefer the natural light in the bedroom (which doesn't have a curtain).

      Thank you!

  10. I love your new skirt and it's such a good pairing with that top, the colours coordinate so well and it's a great print mix! looking forward to see the new living room once you've set it all up too! It's the perfect time to revamp things and make it more cosy at home with us all being home so much!

Hope that you are having a good weekend :) Another hot one here, we had to leave the park as it was just too warm!

    1. Thanks so much, Mica! I love print mixing! I'm excited to show it off, but not till we've redone the pictures (which we didn't do this weekend). Cozy is my goal.

Oh, I'm jealous. My hands are hurting from the cold.

  12. Nice drapes! I prefer curtains to blinds, and in my last apartment and my current one all my window coverings are made from vintage fabric I've found over the years.

  14. That's a lovely outfit.

Poor old Vizzini - cats know how they like the world, and they like it unchanged. Our regard anything new with extreme suspicion.
