Owls in the Closet

The threat of snow has passed, and now we are back to our usual weather: drizzle, grey, grey and grey.
Wearing my own sunshine again. My coworker Derek noted, "You're wearing yellow a lot lately. Should we be worried?"

  • Blouse - Girls from Savoy, thrifted; purchased here for $7.50
  • Skirt - H&M, consignment; first worn here in December 2019 with faux fur
  • Boots - Vog Together, Fluevog, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) in October 2019 for a long weekend hangout
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here yesterday

No, don't be worried. I'm feeling better, mentally and emotionally. I know when I'm feeling low, that it will swing back up again eventually. Yellow still cheers me up, though.
I loved wearing this pretty yellow blouse. I like the shape of it - it's nice and long and fitted. I love the bow and the big pouffy sleeves.

I also love the owls all over it! Close-up of them here (they are quite quirky-looking owls). They join the other strange animals in my closet (a fox, the jelly-deer).
I adored this leather skirt on its second wear, so much, in fact, that I'm turfing the nearly identical-but-not-nearly-as-flattering version (here) into the giveaway pile.

And yes, I did not wear a cardigan or jacket all day. I guess menopause has an upside?
"No, it doesn't."

Outerwear - I haven't tracked this leather trenchcoat's every outing as I didn't track outerwear until 2017, but I've worn it over 30 times in the past 2 years and I've had it much longer than that (going back about 7 years, I think?). I bought it at the Patch for around $40-50.
That's some good sustainable fashion there!

  • Fedora - Edward Mann, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
These were fabulous for a day in the office. I need to wear them more - I had zero foot pain them! Huzzah!

Brown bling:
First wearing of my new-to-me tortoiseshell earrings.

  • Earrings - Aldo
  • Bracelet - J. Crew, thrifted
  • Eelskin bracelet - faux Gucci, gift from Mom & Dad, Italy, c. 1986

My friends, I may not be back until Sunday - we have a couple of big events over the next two nights, and I probably won't have time to blog before going out. As always, thank you for stopping by! Have a fabulous weekend!

  2. I knit myself a golden yellow cardigan last summer, and am finding it an excellent mood-boosting tool! I wore it just yesterday, with a white and yellow cotton turtleneck underneath--your recent cold snap arrived here in Arizona about 36 hours ago, so it was perfect. But I find lots of excuses to wear the yellow cardigan when it is not even so cold. It helps that this particular cardigan was designed with a boat neck and three-quarter length sleeves.

  3. Great pieces and boots. Hard to believe you'll be away -- can't you have your assistant handle blogging for you while you're gone? :)

    1. My assistant Vizzini does nothing but sniff the keyboard with disdain. I guess he doesn't care about his job.

  5. I'm totally in love with your yellow owls blouse, Sheila! I love everything about it, the colour, print (obviously), its elegant fitted shape, the pussy-bow (also obviously) and the puffy sleeves. It looks absolutely fantastic with the leather skirt, which I can't believe is H&M. We had some sunny weather for once, but I still wore yellow today. I think I needed some cheering up as I have to go back to work tomorrow :-( Enjoy your events and see you on Sunday! xxx

    1. Thanks so much, Ann, it's a really cool piece, isn't it? Easy to tell it was an Anthropologie item originally. I know, H&M and leather are not usually a thing we associate.

      Yellow for the win! Thanks!

  8. That is such a pretty blouse, and once again, you look smashing in yellow! I'm sorry that menopause has been kicking your ass. Have you tried taking Evening Primrose Oil capsules? It can ease the symptoms for some women (I've been taking it for years). I'm so glad to be finished with it all, although to be honest, I had it pretty easy compared to what some women go through.

    1. Thank you so much, Shelley, I'll check that out. I appreciate the recommendation, as yeah, menopause has been annoying so far. I am hoping it is over quickly, although I've heard it can last YEARS. Arg!

  12. I hope you feel better Sheila - I think the leather skirt is a beautiful garment. Have you ever done an inventory of how many leathers pants, skirts and jackets you have?
