Pink and Blue and Houndstooth Too (and a New 'Do)

Woo, we're nearly at the weekend! This is a long weekend for us here in Canada - it's Family Day! We all get Monday off to spend with our families. Aw, isn't that nice?
Continuing my informal Valentine Week, I had to wear pink shoes, right? And a pink sweater?

  • Mohair sweater - thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) in December 2019 for brunch with Simona
  • Silk blouse (underneath) - Bird by Juicy Couture, thrifted; last worn here in December 2019 with a giant vest and pants
  • Skirt - Tribal, thrifted; last seen here in January when I showed off my amber
  • Shoes - Enneagram Individualist, Fluevog; last worn here in January with magenta and black
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather, consignment; last seen here in January on our trip to Powell River

I built the outfit around the shoes, and liked how this pink mohair sweater went with the more intense pink of the shoes.
Layering the blue silk blouse under it picked up the light blue buckle in the shoe.

I looked at black skirts, but I'm glad I went with this houndstooth one.
It showed the shoes off well.

The pink made me feel good.
 As pink does.

Outerwear - did someone say pink?
Oh, right, I did.

  • Cashmere beret - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Fur boa - thrifted
  • Leather gloves - consignment

The stuff:
I took the matching blue-on-blue ankle strap off this time - I liked it just as much. These are amazingly comfy shoes.

Sparkly bling:
My coworker Jessica said these earrings were "balling". I think that's a good thing.

  • Earrings - vintage fair
  • Crystal/silver ring - Soul Flower
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

So...I changed up my hair. I've had longer hair for about a year now and I was getting tired of it. If you've been reading my blog for more than a year, you're aware of how frequently I play with my hair.
I'm going to grow out my bangs longer (be prepared for Forehead Creases, next 10 kilometers), and I wanted to change up the length.

I looked up "trendy hairstyles for 2020" and snagged pictures of cuts I liked and textures that appealed to me. I also jotted down key words: "textured, choppy, bob, "lob" (that's a long bob), and "curtain bangs."(aka fringe)
The top four pictures show heavily styled hair (curled with a flat-iron), but with choppy blunt ends, and lots of layers and texture. I have fine hair, but a lot of it, so layered styles work well on me without weighing it down. The bottom two pictures show "curtain bangs", which is longer bangs that are parted in the middle and then tucked behind the ears - it looks like a window, right?

This is fresh from the Sofia's chair, post-beret, bus ride and walk in the spitty rain, so kind of a mess.
I'll style it up properly myself in the morning. Anyway, there's the new 'do for you.

And here's my little boo.
"All my love to my fans."

We both wish you a very Happy Valentine's Day tomorrow - be kind to yourself first!
And don't forget the chocolate!

I'll be back on Monday with tales of the adventure! Happy weekend, everyone!

  2. I love pink and blue together so I really like your outfit and I like your new haircut too! I still have my bob haircut after donating my hair last year, haha! I'm trying to grow it out so I can maybe style it a different way - it's an inverted bob due to the way my hair was cut to best be donated so it's still really short at the back! I will be looking to you for styling tips! :)

  3. Nothing better than a good cut to make a person feel wonderful and your stylist has really hit the mark - it suits you so well and you look very pretty.

  4. Happy Valentine's Day! Love the new hairdo! Your outfit is another one which brightened my day. Love the pink perfection of your shoes and jumper, and the pops of blue from your blouse that match the blue of your shoe straps. Very clever! The houndstooth skirt was the better choice, I think plain black would have been too stark, while the houndstooth keeps it playful! Wishing you and wonderful weekend full of love and chocolate :-) xxx

    1. Happy Galentine's to you, Ann! Thank you - it is fun to play with (it's so light!). I didn't realize how much hair I'd lost.

Thank you - I enjoyed this fun outfit. I agree, which is why I moved on from black very quickly.

      More chocolate! Bring it on!

  8. What a lovely look and wow for the new hairdo, it's so fresh. Those pink and blue shoes are the cutest. I also like your houndstooth and pink combo. Great choice for Vday. I hope you had a nice Valentine's day and I wish you a lovely weekend- and Monday off, how lovely! We don't have family day holiday here, sounds like a fun idea. Your new hairdo suits you really well. Growing up bangs can take some times but long bangs look nice. I like your inspirational hairstyles, I think all of these would suit you well. A nice bob or lob is always a good idea.

I don't like to cut my hair, I prefer to wear it long. I always remember my mother constantly cutting my hair when I was a kid because it was so 'heavy'. She has the same hair and prefers to wear it a bit shorter but since it grow so quickly she ends up wearing it in a ponytail most of the time. I've been trying to explain to her for years that heavy isn't a bad thing, it just means we have quality hair of a certain texture that isn't ideal for styling but works fine on its own. Sure, it is nearly impossible to curl or to style any other way but it looks neat and I don't mind the heaviness of it, but I doubt she will ever embrace her hair the way I do. I love to play with my hair and I think the best way to play and have fun with our hair is to learn to embrace its texture. Every hair colour and texture has its advantages and disadvantages.

    1. Thanks so much for the support on the new hairdo, Ivana! I can't imagine having hair that long and heavy - the length I just had is about the longest it can grow - but yes, you have to embrace the texture you have and work with that.

I hope you had a great Valentine's Day with your sweetie!

  10. What a cute look you're sporting today Shiela! The pink and baby blue work so well together, as shown in those adorable shoes. I love your new hairstyle, it's tres chic my dear. Ooops, I had a comment the other day saying that My dear is very patronising - do you view it that way?

    1. Thank you so much, Anna! I find "my dear" a term of affection, and am honoured and happy to receive it from you. I wouldn't use it with a stranger, though, only someone I knew well.
