Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Fancy Pants and Vexing Velour, More Shoes, Rainy Brunch and Brocade Boots

Hello! I'm back, and have tales to tell and things to show you, so let's get started.

Here's Friday's outfit:
It was pitch dark out and cold. Brr!

  • Cardigan - Sparkle & Fade, swap from Sarah; last seen here in October 2019 with leather pants
  • Top - InWear; purchased here for $18.75
  • Trousers - H&M, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here in November 2019 with a thousand-dollar sweater
  • Shoes - Napoleoni, thrifted; last worn here with 90s designer vintage
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here in December 2019/New Year's Eve

When he saw me, one of my coworkers asked when our next Fancy Friday would be. I think that should totally be a thing, don't you?
I've worn my Big Lady Boss Pants for a few Fridays, that's for sure! These fabulous pink satin trousers were one of my best purchases of 2019; I have worn them five times already - I even had them hemmed (and I rarely alter my second-hand purchases). They're super comfy, have pockets, and they make me feel like a Big Lady Boss, hence the name.

I ran into Sarah today and totally forgot to show her that I was wearing the cardigan I got from her baby shower swap. D'oh!
This is the first wearing of this velour top and it vexed me. It caused the sleeves of the cardigan to ride up to my elbows; I was forever plucking and pulling and trying to get my sleeves to stay down.
Finally, I just gave up. And maybe you'll be surprised that I'm keeping it? I will likely refrain from layering a knit from it again, but I still really love the top. I nearly wore it with my tulle skirt for New Year's.

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style.

Outerwear - cold, wind and periods of rain. Just right for a hat! Have you seen the latest Hat Attack at Style Crone? I want to be Judith when I grow up.
More pink, I say!

Bundled up.
Nice and warm.

  • Fedora - Edward Mann, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Pashmina - Portolano, thrifted
  • Gloves - Cejon, thrifted

The stuff:
The shoes are a very dark red-brown and the belt is black.

Bronze bling:
The tassels on the earrings are metal.

  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Spinner ring - Twang & Pearl
  • Feather ring - Fossil, thrifted
  • Bronze ring - P. Sarpaneva, c. 1970, vintage expo

So, I may have bought some new shoes... I do tend to spend more on shoes than I do on my actual clothes, but I buy high quality footwear (and I get a lot of gift cards for Christmas and my birthday!). I tried these on at Footloose (link here 'cause I love) when I was shopping with my gals earlier this week, and passed then, but they stuck in my head.
They're by Camper - these are the Alright Mini Ballet Slipper. They were marked down to $75.00 from $160.00.
They are very bendy and the rubber soles are amazing grippers (all those wee nubs). They do feel like wearing a slipper!

Due to the non-covered part of the sole, I won't be wearing these outside at all this season; these will be a great spring/summer shoe.
That orange is electric!

I have been stalking these babies since they got them in over a year ago.
Pink Velvet Shoes! So pretty.

These are also only fair-weather shoes. Velvet + rain = bad things.
These are by Sol Sana and are called the Joyce. They were $79.00, marked down from $215.00 - last pair! Yes!

Poor L has come down with a cold, so I was up early for my Mental Health Walk (it poured, I got soaked), and then I headed down to Pluto's for brunch on my own while he slept some more. Get well, my love!
I look rather peeved that the sun came out, don't I? But it was nice while it lasted.

  • Wool dress - Club Monaco, thrifted; last worn here in late November 2019 for Black Friday consignment shopping
  • Boots - Ash; last seen here (3rd outfit) for brunch in October 2019
  • Raincoat - Avoca; last worn here with these boots in October!

Although it's just basic black, this dress is ribbed and is wool.
It's very snuggly. I have a black tank under it for extra warmth.

Knowing I would be having a wee shop afterwards, I wore funky tights to jazz everything up.
In particular, I knew I'd be trying on more shoes.
As mentioned, the weather's been erratic - hello, winter!
But it wasn't too cold out, so I thought I'd be fine in my raincoat instead of a heavier coat.

Bundled up with my cashmere scarf and wool gloves.
I did have to put the hood up a few times!
I always get comments on this coat when I'm out and about - I love the pansy pattern.

  • Pashmina - Portolano, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
These boots are heavenly for walking around in, and they are of course 100% badass.

  • White gold hoops - gift from L, Frances Jewelers

I had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket for Heart & Sole Shoes (link here 'cause I love!)
Are you gasping? When I first saw these in the window of the store several months ago, they stopped me dead in my tracks.

I actually asked for a gift certificate with the intent of getting these, but I had it in my head that I needed a practical black boot.
I tried on a bunch of black boots, and then I tried these on...and I thought, "What would L want me to buy?"

I think we all know the answer! He totally loved these.
The toe and heel and the strip up the back are leather, and the body is a soft, woven jacquard. They are by Spring Step, from their L'Artiste line and are called the 'Rarity' (link here if you want to buy them - we can match!).

They show as $250.00 on their site, but they were marked down to $150.00.
And that's how much my gift certificate was for! I only had to pay the tax.

I'm not familiar with this brand at all - this is the first time I've seen it.
They have nice sturdy zippers and a good-sized metal pull - the laces up the front are adjustable, which I really like for adjusting to my calves.
That's a nice soft (and pretty) lining. Yay! I'm so happy with these!

Flush with my victory, I had a poke around Rich Rags before I headed home.
This is a lovely print - I am fond of roses and have been looking for a new rose-print top for nearly 7 years. I'm very fussy about my prints! This one here (front) and here (back) is the last rose top I had - I got rid of it in 2013 because the print wasn't evenly distributed on the garment (like I said: I'm fussy).

On this blouse the print is even, not too Christmassy, and the shoulders have a nice shape. It's also beautifully made, with no serged seams, as you can see below. I'm a sucker for good finishing.
It's also 100% silk and is by Brooks Brothers Red Fleece (Red Fleece being their "preppy" division). This would have been around $150 new, but was only $20.00.

And now back to watching football (NFL) playoffs, and some quality cuddle time with you-know-who:
"Just call me Mr. Stretchy."

Such cuteness!
"Prepare your lap for a nap, Woman."

That sounds like a plan!

  1. Oh my goodness, those Booooooooooooooooooooooots!!! They are swoon-worthy! Not surprised you bought those! I love them! Your pink trousers are such a nice shape! I love big trousers! Beautiful.
Nice roses on the new top- I get what you mean about the distribution of the roses on certain tops.
Vizzini is so long! He's such a nice boy! I'd love cuddle time with him!
Sorry to hear that L was not well!

  2. Those boots are awesome and so you Sheila! I look forward to seeing all the ways you wear them! I really do need to mix up my shoe collection a little - I have been trying to be a bit more adventurous and wear my bright and printed pairs but most of the time I reach for neutrals!

Colourful shoes can add so much to an outfit - be adventurous!

  3. Those boots! Be still my beating heart. They fit your legs brilliantly, too - something that I find never happens with modern boots, my legs look like a broom in a bucket - as my Mum always used to say!
Loving the pink trouser outfit - Fancy Friday indeed, they were well worth having altered. I feel your pain over the sticking velour but some things are worth enduring a bit of hassle, like that lovely top.
Sorry to hear that L's under the weather. I hope Vizzini's being a good cat nurse to his daddy. xxx

    1. Thanks, Vix! Ha, that's a great expression - usually boots are fine for me, and tend to the tight side.

I know, Fancy Friday needs to be a thing. I love the pink pants, and the top is a keeper.

Thank you - I think I might have it now. Vizzini is giving lots of love.

  4. Fancy Friday all the way! What a fun idea.

I love the pink satin pants. Anything pink and satin reminds me of a suit Mick Jagger wore it the 70s – soooo fabulous.

I AM gasping over the floral boots. X

  7. My favourite of your outfit is definitely Friday's. I've loved all incarnations of your pink Big Lady Boss Pants, they are magnificent. And don't they look a treat with your new top? I'm hearing you on the vexing velour, but I would keep it too. I'm loving your shoe haul, and in particular, quite obviously, those fantastic boots! Well worth the price, I'd say. Surely there was no competition once you'd tried these on! I'm a big fan of your pansy raincoat too, and particularly love it combined with those dotty tights! xxx

I've been rather indulgent with shoes lately! Worth the gift card price, ha! Thank you!

  8. Those pink satin trousers are wonderful. Talk about Lady Boss pants! The other outfits you shared are fantastic as well, love those polka dots tights. Your shoe haul is great too! Those brocade boots are to die for.

  9. Oohh... pink pants. I was gonna talk about them but then I scrolled down and saw the boots. Wow!

  10. All three of your new foot acquisitions are LOVELY! Plus they look comfortable, as well. I am familiar with L'Artiste, having purchased a pair of low boots here (http://mapetiteshoe.com) on a visit to Hampden (part of Baltimore) MD in 2017. If you are curious to see my pair, visit this page (https://onoutabout.posthaven.com/hampden-md) and scroll to the end of the post. Besides a happy camper ;-) you can see two closeups of them. I fell in love with the color, stitching and painting of the leather.
As for a practical black boot, I suspect you'll find a way to make these work. ;-)
And those PINK pants! Holy molys, what a bit of smile-inducing pizzazz!

Hope L is recovering and that cat sure can stretch....

    1. No, no shoe addiction - I just got a lot (I mean, a LOT) of gift cards this past Christmas/birthday and have been spending them now that all the shoes are on sale. I've also been replacing my really high heels (aw) now that I can't wear them.

Thank you - he is - and yes, Vizzini is a very long stretchy boy.

  14. Okay, I'm fine now. Nasty rush of envy has passed and I can wholeheartedly say that these are the most magnificent boots EVER! Yes, I know you've showcased other bits and bobs, but I only have eyes for the boots. Hurrah and money (gift voucher) very well spent xxx

  16. WOW! You scored very well in the shoe department - I wish I could find a pair like those campers that are a bit dressy with a low heel. I commented on the boots in the post after this one (I always start from your most recent post and work backwards when I am getting caught up in my comments). Sorry you got sick too - if only people would keep their germs to themselves ;)
